We enjoyed the wine and therefore purchased $200+ to have the fees waived. The owner and winemaker Ken Wright has years of experience in the industry. He buys excellent fruit and in turn produces excellent wine. Definitely worth a visit when in Carlton or nearby.

The night before, I emailed to confirm--only to get, the next morning, a text from J'Aime saying that I had never followed through. We ended up talking on the phone, and this was so very weird for me because I was actually looking at the email I had sent while she was aggressively arguing that I hadn't sent it. As things developed, she conceded that she missed it (but didn't apologize for gaslighting me), and agreed--somewhat reluctantly--to meet me, as long as I could get there earlier. I got there as fast as I could, maybe 40 minutes ahead of schedule. Then, I was given a very fast tour where I was told to not ask questions, to not speak at all, to just listen to her "set piece." It's not that the "set piece" wasn't interesting--it was, in a way. But 1/3 of it was stuff I already knew, from traveling the area for a couple weeks, and 1/3 of it was stuff she presented so quickly--and clearly not wanting me to ask questions--that I couldn't fully grasp it, as I had wished. The other 1/3 was useful. At the winery itself, the wine was fine, I liked it. There was nothing so special that I felt the need to join a membership, but I did take a bottle of wine back to my Airbnb with me. And to J'Amie's credit, she did make sure that I was fully recompensated for both the tour and the tasting. This was a learning/studying trip for me. I'm a former professor; studying wine is my retirement hobby. To shut "students" down from asking questions is inimical to real learning, so I was very disappointed in this. This was one of two wineries in Oregon who insisted on forced listening, rather than engaging.

He did warm up a bit when I ordered an extra bottle for the three of us to share, but when the other couple agreed to split the cost, he didn't split it (it was fully on my bill). The Sparkling Rose was really really good. I came from the midwest for a month, hoping to learn a lot from each winery (and I emailed each winery months ahead of time, expressing my goals), and I visited 15+ wineries in that time. This was the second most disappointing, and the most expensive. There are so many better options--go elsewhere. This was one of 5 wineries that I didn't join their club. I left feeling like I was surplus grapes, the third cluster that is cut off during flowering.

The wines are incredible, the people make every visit feel genuinely welcoming, and there's just something special about the whole experience. It's also great that the Studio offers a perfect space for making wine - in some cases startups but often winemakers that are between other gigs or just have small enough production that it doesn't make sense to build out a space of their own. I have visited many times and know a number of winemakers who have utilized this space over the past 20-ish years, and I'm a fan. They hosted a release party this August for McCollum Family Vineyards which was great and the wine was fantastic plus C.J. and Elise McCollum were amazingly gracious hosts. J.C. Somers winery has returned to the Studio in 2026 and makes some of the better wine you'll find anywhere, Jay Somers has been making world class wine in Oregon since the 1990's but currently makes a couple thousand cases on his personal label available at the Studio. Definitely stop by for a tasting if you're in the area, a cool place to visit and some great wine to be tasted/purchased.

The pictures are pretty deceiving as this isn't the typical distillery we were used to. The room/building you walk into is small and looks like a storefront you sell knick-knacks from. There are chairs and tables on the outside on a deck portion, but my partner and dad never made it out there. As soon as we walked in, it smelled heavily of weed and it was very obvious the gal helping us was high. We could tell by her eyes and she honestly just kept yapping and would not answer any questions my partner or dad had about the alcohol itself. While my mom and I sat outside not interested in tasting, we got annoyed of the music they had playing. It wasn't the music choice, it was the fact that the smaller bluetooth speaker it was playing off of was either dying or disconnecting constantly. And it was being played at an absurdly loud volume. We will not be coming back here unfortunately. The alcohol was not great by itself but would be better in mix drinks.

They probably won't like me mentioning, but the pours are generous for tastings and they didn't mind giving extra tastes or a glass on the house if someone in our party didn't drink reds, full glass of pinot gris for my mom, nice! The birdhouses in particular were absolutely lovely and added so much charm to the space. The tasting room takes walk-ins, and were greeted as soon as we entered and told we could sit anywhere. Our sommelier was absolutely delightful-- there were two women working and both were so, so friendly and made us feel very welcome. We tasted one white (a Chardonnay that I actually quite liked despite it being my least favorite white wine) and a number of reds. When they poured the various pinot noirs, they brought a second glass and had us do a side-by-side comparison. I absolutely LOVE it when tasting rooms make the effort to do this-- it really brings us the differences in the wines so you can tell what you're trying. We also tasted a red blend and a syrah. The syrah was my favorite. In the midst of us tasting the reds, the women pouring for us brought out a couple of chocolate hearts, which was really the cherry (or the chocolate) on top. It's been hard in the past couple of years to find people that offer such a wonderful experience at this price point ($20)-- especially if you're a younger person. I can truly say that this was wonderful, and we will absolutely return next time we are in the Valley.
