The original town hall was built in 1904 on the corner of 4th and 5th Avenues on the east side of Donnelly Street by volunteers with donated materials. This town hall existed until 1922 when a fire damaged it and most of the block. In the 1880's the land where the city hall now sits was owned by the Reverend Guller built a hotel called the Guller House. The Gullers sold it in 1889 and the property changed hands several times until the 1920's when Mr. Enoch Tompkins purchased the Guller House. He remodeled it and added columns to give it a colonial look. After that the building was known as the Colonial Inn. It was again sold several times and in 1929 Mount Dora leased the property for $1,000 a year, eventually buying it for $15,000 in 1931. City business was conducted in the building until 1963 when the building was deemed too outdated to be be functional. Architect Brandon Wald, was hired in the 1960's by the city to create a new building that looked as close to the Colonial Inn as possible while making the interior more functional for the city. The 1920's pillars were retained to decorate the front of the building. On May April 3, 1964. Mayor Jessie Wilmott, Governor Farris Bryant, and other government officials dedicated the new town hall. Although not a building from the 1920's, Mount Dora's City Hall looks like it came from that time period. Today it sits on top of the hill overlooking Donnelly Park and holding court over lovely historic downtown Mount Dora.

No response. I called the administrative line, and Brett told me Stacy quit the previous month. Brett then connected me to Mr. Scott Zane. Scott was recently assigned the duties of Code Compliance and was learning the process. I provided background on my issue, and he immediately began working on the problem. Within two weeks, he contacted the person in charge of managing the property, told her she had 24-48 hours to clean up the property or the violation notice would be in the mail. The lot was FINALLY mowed properly and the three-foot weeds around the trees were trimmed. Scott stated he will continue to monitor this property, so our neighborhood does not have to go months awaiting a remedy. I commended him on his quick action given he was just assigned this position. Not sure if Mr. Zane is temporary, or he is the permanent replacement, but he is someone who can be counted on and is a credit to the City of Edgewood staff.

Mayberry in Orlando?? Maybe it's Edgewood, Florida?…read more I attended the event Light Up Edgewood - Mayor Kinsley's 100th Birthday Party at Bagshaw Park at Edgewood City Hall. Edgewood used to be famous for their traffic infractions but these days it provide a small town feel right in your backyard. They frequently have food truck Fridays with antique or custom cars and sometimes they have a farmers market. All held at the small city hall and the adjacent park. This event included the trucks, cars and a symphony presentation in honor of the former mayor's 100th birthday party. This is a very accessible event and you don't have to park and walk a mile. A big plus is you can use the bathrooms in the Edgewood City Hall so no porta-potties. This time the hall was beautifully decorated for the holidays. A lot of the people who attend live in the neighborhood and walk over so it is very friendly. At a previous event we had a fun time talking to the current mayor. They have six or seven food trucks but they are all quality and there is a table set up to sell drinks. ((shout out to Camel Toe Tacos.) There is seating in the park and I think small tables but the last time it was pretty busy because of the symphony playing holiday music. I do believe I have seen entertainment at previous events. You can find future events on their calendar page http://www.edgewood-fl.gov/event
