As an opera singer, I want things that make a positive statement. Hats usually aren't my go-to, due to my large head that usually doesn't fit into hats (even if my hair is flat). After calling to ask questions, I took a chance and ventured out from CT, to the Bronx on a Saturday afternoon.
The ladies working at this wonderful millinery KNOW the beauty and status of hats. Don't be fooled by their hole-in-the-wall location next to All-State! (Besides - hole-in-the-wall stores/restaurants are often gems!) The inside of the store is FULL of big and small, luxurious and simple hand-crafted hats (Sunday/church, derby hats, and more). So much color and tactile variety! None of that imported mess. It's like a dream. And yes, Miss Leontyne Price would come to a place such as this.
Great customer service! Fast, efficient, funny, and a good eye for what works with your skin tone/facial shape/personality, etc. At first I worried that I would be considered odd, or be misunderstood. These ladies worked to find or even create what I wanted through drawings, modifications to already made hats, etc. Their prices range from cheap to modestly expensive, but they are sometimes willing to barter. Much cheaper than runway/designer hats. A real deal!
These ladies work hard, and it shows. I watched as they went from a simple base, to a fun, flirty spring/summer hat.
After spending an hour looking for hats to fit different roles, and even a few for personal use, I left feeling quite satisfied. Luckily - so were my directors! I plan to return - SOON! read more
