My partner (Lynne Maher & I both continue to be CEFCU customers. CEFCU did EVENTUALLY take care of the credit card balance. However, not before sending a letter stating the payment was $10 past due & further privileges to use the account & late fees would accumulate if past due amount wasn't paid. Then loan was taken care of. Sent another statement showing close to $4 still due. Had to call to ask. Said it showed $0 balance. Asked for letter to be sent about credit card being paid off & improperly charged weekly $50 amounts after being turned in & CEFCU not shutting card off. NEVER WAS SENT LETTER. ALSO,have had problems with payment of consolidation loan monthly payments by Lynne. In at least one instance teller failed to deposit into checking so it'd be available for automatic transfer. In the end her automatic transfer has now been terminated by CEFCU. Both of us have accounts at another local community bank. That bank is much easier to work with & gets to know it's customers. Please, Please, Please, if you want to avoid a headache DON'T bank with this Credit Union (at least if you don't have a branch near you). First of all, my husband and I have been with this bank since 2012. It has been a while since I started noticing that this Credit Union slowly has been controlling how much money you can take out of your bank account daily ($1,000 maximum). I called them to raise that amount and I was told that they could not help me. I am sure that rich people don't have that limit like we regular people have. Not to mention, you can only take max of $300 at a time! Something else, I received a check for $1,680 from a Title Company. I deposited April 14th, today is the 18th and still not one penny available. I called CEFCU, got a rude representative and I was told that it won't be available until the 20th. Well, as we know the 20th is on Sunday so my guess is that I will probably have the money available Monday the 21st (Thank God we don't need the money right now) My husband and I haven't changed this bank because we are moving to FL and are planning to use another credit union over there who has very good reputation and care for their members. FYI, the deposit was made at an affiliated Credit Union and when I went to ask why the money wasn't available, they told me it was processed the same day but it was being held by CEFCU. In the past it used to be that if you deposit over $1,000 at least $1,000 was available right away, obviously that has been gone too! read more

Don't bank or get a loan from this place!! They will rob you blind and still take more. Made the mistake of getting a car loan through them, had a small rough patch. Caught up but they said I hadn't then turned around and repossessed the vehicle. Will never do business with them again. read more

I elected to open an account with CEFCU because it was conveniently located near family and my finance has an automobile loan with them. I also work part-time as an engineering consultant in the surrounding areas. What a disaster. My initial deposit was made via PayPal, but failed because the bank has the routing blocked. Fine. I then had my employee payroll and supplemental unemployment benefits deposited. A few bills had been paid. Next thing I know, I cannot log onto online banking. I call to inquire about the problem and am notified that the loss prevention office felt there were inconsistencies in my application. The primary reason is because I listed an employer, but also received supplemental unemployment benefits. My account was locked and closed, just like that. It was fully funded and never overdrawn. Luckily, the inability to access 1.3K wasn't going to break me, but the additional hassle and disrespect is unacceptable. The representative treated me as a criminal attempting to steal identities. All I wanted was a minimally funded account to access while traveling and pay our auto loan. Instead, I was insulted and left without access to funds and account numbers. I strongly caution anyone against opening consumer accounts here. You run the risk of depositing money and delaying access to it for months. Please do not take that risk and go elsewhere. I was able to collect remaining funds without incident, but veterans benefits deposit was rejected due to account closure. It will take weeks to have it re-issued. I notified cefcu I had checks stolen Jan 2020 in writing. I asked that they call the cops if anyone tried to cash my checks. Not only did cefcu cash the checks. They refused to prosecute the thief who wrote her real name on the checks and forged my signature. Janelle Boyle of Pekin, IL. Let me tell you, move to a different state & you will miss how good Cefcu really is. They have always went above & beyond when helping us. I paid my account off and got my vehicle in addition to their ridiculous fees. My vehicle had mold from the towing company leaving the window down. I'm not sure how this bank claims that I caused them a loss. I paid over $700 bucks in additional fees. Do not use this bank, they are vindictive! They should get negative stars!! read more

CEFCU has to be the worst credit union in the country. They charged me a $30 overdraft fee for going -$8 and despite having overdraft protection. What kind of institution charges $30 in a single overdraft fee. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

CEFCU is a great bank. Seriously, it's great. We've gotten a couple of major loans here, and the process was fairly easy, and the rates good. We earn a little bit of interest on our savings. The online banking system and bill pay are great. Everyone here is really friendly! Sounds like five stars, right? And it would be. Except going to a teller is literally slower than any other bank I have ever been to in my life. No matter how many windows are open, I expect to wait at least a full minute for every person in front of me. Every time. It doesn't matter who I go to, what time of day. Last time I went, I was the 8th person in line, and I waited for over ten minutes to deposit a check. By the time I got called to a teller, there were 15 people in line behind me. I hope that they found someone to open another window after I left, but they certainly didn't while I was there. And that's really how it is every time. Even if I don't have to wait in line, the simple act of depositing a check is slower than at other banks. But really, CEFCU is awesome. If you never have to go to a teller, your experience will probably be 100% awesome. But I find the slowness so irritating it literally takes the rating down from 5 stars to 3 for me. read more

This place is a joke, only reason why they got earning to give back to the community is because they got no competition in the area and they nickle and dime their employee's salaries. They had 3 top financial advisers QUIT with in the last 2 years; got offers they deserved elsewhere because CEFCU doesn't treat their employees right. People quit because they keep promoting people from within that does not have a clue what they are doing to manage the wealth management department. There's good employees and then there's bad however this Union is a joke. I used to be a customer and they never sent my new cards to me for when mine were to expire, and when I would call asking why (knowing exactly where my new card was sent) they wanted to always report the new ones as stolen! Never wanting to help their people, and they constantly froze my card when I returned to town due to traveling (even if they "made note of it"). It's worth the drive to a real bank across the river. Don't fall for some local scam. read more

Our renter applied for loan to buy our home and Glassey and Glassey was sent out to do the appraisal. He spent less than 10 minutes in the home and left. The appraisal came back missing a bedroom, a bathroom, the basement, fenced in yard, square footage was incorrect and failed to note upgrades on the home. When we looked at his report we realized he had just cut and pasted 20 year old county property records. We had two appraisals done on the property in the last 5 years and were double what he listed the house at. The home also listed by Century 21 for the price on those appraisals three years ago. Since that time remodeling has happened in then house. When we brought this to Amy Smith's attention we demanded another appraisal since it was so bogus. Another appraiser came out and spent almost two hours in the house measured every room and actually went into the basement. He noted all of the improvements and when CEFCU received the new appraisal there was a significant difference in the two. Amy then asked our renter if Glassey and Glassey could come back and look at the house. Our renter specifically asked if the second assessment from Glassey would have an effect on the loan and was told no. Our renter let Glassey back in under the impression CEFCU was validating Glassey and Glassey and was doing CEFCU a favor. When Glassey did the second appraisal he was rude to our renters wife and only spent 15 minutes in the home and did not look at anything. The second appraisal differed from the first and was used during the underwriting process after our renter was told it would have no effect on the loan, otherwise he would not have let Glasset back into the home. CEFCU's underwriter took a month to make a decision on the outcome of the loan and took the second appraisal Glassey submitted, not keeping their word on not using the second Glassey appraisal. Our renter has not received the second appraisal conducted and has not seen the second Glassey appraisal to ensure it is even correct this time. Thats a pretty crappy way to conduct business. read more
