I have been a member since 1979, and CEFCU has had many issues with my account in the past few years. For example if you are away from your normal area on vacation, they will decline transactions. Then, you have to wait until the next day to get things straightened out. It is quite embarrassing to say the least. Recently, they said I was using the wrong PIN number. I wasn't and it was a Sunday. It is definitely not the bank I have known for many decades. There are some employees who are clueless on what they are doing in regard to IRAs. If I could give CEFCU ZERO stars, I would. This "credit union" is a complete joke. The customer service is rude, unhelpful, and acts like you're inconveniencing them just by existing. They love to nickel-and-dime you with ridiculous fees and then shrug their shoulders when you ask for help. Their online banking system is outdated and unreliable--half the time it doesn't even work, and when you call, they treat you like you're the problem. Need access to YOUR money? Good luck. CEFCU will hold deposits forever, freeze accounts for no reason, and then give you a runaround when you try to get answers. It feels less like a bank and more like a scam. Do research and go with another car loan other than them. one collection lady( Theresa) is nasty to talk to she don't want hear your troubles along with her colleagues. Believe me if this could have a -100+, I would choose the lowest possible! Bought a vehicle in March 2024. ONE payment was handled correctly by this NIGHTMARE company since! ***ONE***! After that payment by phone I decided making a huge "phone payment fee" was going to add up over many payments, I made the horrible mistake of paying for "free" by automatic payment. Yep: automatically TAKES TWO PAYMENTS FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!!!!! I complained, they refused to refund anything because "isn't it better and convenient to have that extra in"? Well, NO! Because the system not only did NOT recognize the overpayment, but collected 2 month's payment AGAIN the next month AND the next!!!! I had to pay large service fees to my bank to recover the overpayments, I was not given accurate amounts owed, and when I FINALLY had enough of the migraines from this awful nightmare by paying exactly the amount I owed and losing the lingering partial payments, they accused me of NON-PAYMENT and STILL FORCED ME TO PAY $800 FOR A $400 CAR PAYMENT and WORSE have now DESTROYED MY CREDIT!!!!! I AM FURIOUS and considering legal action for theft and breach of contract. I guess I just had the worst customer service in a long time here. They didn't try to resolve the situation or even try to act like they cared. Don't bank here. I don't like writing bad reviews and certainly don't want to write one about a local bank. I even sought some type of positive response from the bank by sharing my experience with other employees. I received an "ok" and someone hanging up on me. Today, I called into the bank to pick up a check. The woman in the IRA department was rude and even tried to explain things to me she was not clear herself about. She went on to try to find some answers by calling other people and leaving me on hold for 30 minutes. She picked up the phone and say "Hi, how can I help you?" I told her she put me on hold 30 minutes before and she said "Oh, I thought I hung up and had the other banks call you." No update on my check. No apology. Just another "ok" response. It felt even intentional because she was still upset I questioned her earlier easily confused and wrong headed. I then did as she did and called the other banks. They told me this woman had already told me she had the check at a certain bank. She never told me this. This whole interaction took an hour and a half to just get a check. No one tried to deliver customer service or make up for my wasted time. No apology. No one cared. These people deserve to go out of business if this continue on this road. read more

Absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. Don't ever EVER plan on having an emergency situation where you need to talk to someone outside of business hours. Won't happen. They don't give a shit if something is messed up with your account and you need to send money to your daughter in another state for an emergency. All you get is "welp I can't do anything" then they waste your time acting like they're getting their supervisor or someone who can actually help. By design, their app doesn't keep a running total available balance and they will process your charges in a way that maximizes overdraft fees. If you sign for an auto or personal loan there will be a mandatory additional charge for life and disability insurance so they can pay off your loan if you kick it before finishing your payments. This 'insurance' doesn't cover unemployment or illness or family emergencies, and it will add @$100-150 to the amount due each month. read more

I feel like they was racially profiling but Iv ask other workers who work with me and bank with them does this happen and it don't so I closed my account and will never bank with them again read more

The Customer support is absolute garbage. You should not have to have a degree in banking and a master in law to understand your rights when you trust someone with your money. Unless you enjoy wait times. Random charges to your account for minor reasons, as well as getting shut out when you are trying to get help for your own account. My wife and myself had been members of CEFCU for about 10 years. It used to be great! Friendly staff and a great bank. Over the past 3 or so years, the bank we once knew and depended on is no longer there. They emplemented some computer system, designed to make the bank money, by screwing over their customers. For example, I receive regular dated payments from the U.S. Department of Treasury. A multitude of times, my check will be shown as pending status, waiting for them to release the funds into my account. I will have like my mortgage payment setup to be taken out of this check. So, at midnight, they will deduct my mortgage payment and give me NSF Fees (Non-Sufficient Funds). Then at 1201, they will release my check from the Government, into my account. This has happened about a dozen or so times. When asked about the issue, there was no apologies or explanation given, except that it is their system and basically, I have to deal with it. Well I am not dealing with it no more, I have moved on to a much friendlier bank, which has common sense and doesn't delight in screwing over their customers. Also, every 2 to 3 months, either my wife's debit card, my debit card, or both of them would have a fraud alert come up and our cards would be taken out of use, which is good, I don't want to be a victim of identity fraud or theft, but it would take about two weeks to get a new card in the mail. My new bank allows us to receive a new one, same day, at our bank. Also, with the amount of fraud alerts we experienced, it started to become kinda comical with the frequency of it, but it also made me question their security practices. To Sum Up This Review: The Reaper says, avoid like the plague . This is the 5th bank I have had and it was one of the best, to now, the absolute worst! read more

CEFCU... where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. So far I have not been able to use my card out of town, only been able to withdraw $200 at the lost from atm, a card limit of $300, and charged astronomical fees unlike any other bank I've ever dealt with. Im assuming it's all bc they have restrictions for people with poor credit. Sooooo... I guess you just hold onto poor peoples money. My dad was nice enough to send me money for new tires (again, I'm poor). I can't pull the money out of the atm, I can't use my card for a purchase that large, and when I got off work at 5:00 all of the locations were closed for me to make a withdrawal. I am appalled at the inconvenience. I absolutely cannot wait to close my account. Oh! But when I called, my option was to submit another application, take a hit on my credit, and "hope" I am granted less restrictions. They are the worst bank you could ever possibly go to. I closed my account and they reassured me that no transactions would go through and they went ahead and allow them to go through. Then they refused to give me my paycheck. And if you're thinking about going here I definitely recommend not to. This isn't the first time that I have had issues with them. Most of the tellers say hello to me by name as soon as I walk up. Feels very personal. Everyone is so friendly! They've given me loans when no one else would. Got a great rate and monthly payment on my vehicle loan. They were even willing to give me a small home loan! Someone is always available to answer questions and they have great resources for money management. Their My Save Certificate is awesome. CEFCU is definitely my bank, and should be yours too! read more

We have had loans with them in the past and the experience has been like pulling teeth every time. This most recent time we applied for a loan, just a couple months after paying off our previous loan 4 months in advance, the loan was denied. When I called to ask why, they began to explain that my income was not high enough. I then asked for more details. They told me that my VA benefits from my military service did not count as income, and neither did my wife's income (who runs an in home daycare) because she couldn't produce a pay stub. This even after we sent bank statements proving the income we were receiving. When I asked why they did not count my VA benefits as income I was told it was because it was not an income that was earn, that is was given to me and could be taken away at any point. I am not sure how a VA benefit is not earned but was quite offended by the remark. After asking them the difference between a VA benefit (which they do not count) and unemployment pay (which they informed me they do count), I was told, "that it is just their policy". All of this after a loan was approved previously using the same sources of income as this time. So needless to say CEFCU will not be getting my business any longer for any line of business and I encourage anybody else to think twice before giving your business to a company like this. read more
