This was a community effort and is in the public park adjacent to Lisbon Town Hall. I am still not clear as to why it is here specifically and not in any other town, but I suppose it affected every corner of the country. We still have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and the Patriot Act is still on the books. Plus it's a good spot to go to each fall and remember and maybe heal some. It's a solemn space, though I am not sure how serene it is when there is a baseball game being played behind it or when the picnic pavilion is full. There's a model of the WTC, a piece of the wreckage, and some nice plantings. If you didn't live through it, or need a reminder there are informative plaques. I don't know if there are any events or commemorations that happen here, but I wager if you went on an anniversary you wouldn't be alone.

Still, the Wind Point LIghthouse was worth the visit. 108 feet tall, it is one of the tallest and oldest lighthouses on the Great Lakes. Free to visit the property, plenty of parking, a fantastic view and some true history here. [Review 20660 overall - 230 in Wisconsin - 1641 of 2023.]

Besides a great selection of books to read for free, they also offer special activities for all ages. They have passes to area venues such as Betty Brinn Museum, The Domes, and even the Zoo. The staff is kind and willing to help with questions and information. What a gem! The Town Hall Library is part of the library system so checking out can be done across several locations. We hit up the installation every year, and the fourth annual event in 2020 had more than a few stellar pieces. Standouts were Nari Ward's Apollo/Poll neon, Alex Katz Park Avenue Departure, pieces by Thomas J. Price and Julian Opie, and Tony Tasset's Blob Monster was a visual show stopper. There's plenty of signage to help you learn about the artwork, and with pieces installed from MAM to the Wisconsin Center, it's a nice easy two mile round trip walking tour. Audio Tours and even a musical audio pairing can be found on Sculpture Milwaukee's website. Guided docent tours or trolley tours seem to be offered from time to time, as well as curated virtual talks with the artists. A few pieces have ended up in the permanent collection, installed around City Hall, or around Wisconsin Avenue such as Roxy Paine's "Cleft" metallic tree. Zero Accountability from Wauwatosa Leadership -- Not One Response Until I Went Public…read more On August 1st, I experienced an incident with a Wauwatosa Fire Department engine that likely caused permanent worsening of my tinnitus. I immediately sent multiple detailed emails -- including my personal phone number -- to: Fire Chief Jim Case - No response Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Stanwood (emailed twice) - No response City Attorney Jennifer Tate (emailed twice) - No response Mayor Dennis McBride - No response Fire & Police Commission Chair Danielle Long - No response It took a public social media post over a week later for anyone from Wauwatosa to respond -- and even then, it was Administration Assistant Chief Barbara Kadrich, who tried to spin it as me not getting "the response I was looking for," when the truth is I got no response at all from any of them. Barbara also refuses to correspond via email, meaning there's no written record -- which is unacceptable for public accountability. Every single one of these officials had my email address and phone number from day one. If they had time to talk among themselves about my post, they had time to talk to me directly. This city government is tax-funded, yet clearly believes basic constituent communication is optional. If this is how they treat legitimate concerns about safety and injury, imagine how they handle everything else. Wauwatosa residents -- remember this when these names come up on your ballot. Public service means serving the public, not ignoring them until they cause a PR problem.

With a cooperative effort, a new library building was constructed. Plans called for a main floor and a mezzanine, but funding was short so the mezzanine was never built. The result is a comfortable, wide open space. The inventory is increasing and the stacks are filling. The library offers books and periodicals (of course) as well as audio books, music, movies and a reference section. There is a large children's library with a dedicated children's librarian. There is WiFi and there are workstations in case you didn't bring your own computer. There are display cases with rotating items of local interest and plenty of room to display works of local, youthful artisans. There are available study rooms, meeting rooms and a large community room. As a member of the federated library system and SHARE, any publication can be brought in from (almost) any library in the state system. The librarians and circulation staff are friendly and pleased to help out, just ask. By the way, the framing is there for the mezzanine, perhaps you might help them build it someday? Germantown residents are fortunate to have such a wonderful community resource in a charming, attractive library.

I was blessed to visit this military enlistment center when a friends son enlisted recently…read more Parking is ample, but be prepared to walk because a lot of the parking is reserved for military personnel. Upon entering the building you are processed through security. After screening there is a sign in process and a lot of waiting. We were given a specific time for the ceremony but waited almost an hour for it to begin. Inside the ceremony we watched our young men and women take the oath to serve and protect in the branch thy enlisted. After the ceremony we again waited over an hour for a family meeting. At the meeting information was quickly given and in the rush of getting the enlisted officers off to lunch before their shuttle ride to the airport, some Information was left up in the air and was confusing. I suggest they have a welcome pamphlet for new military families so in the emotional rush they can access the information at a better time. After the family meeting we were asked To wait outside as the officers walked to the shuttle. It was below zero and we were Freezing! But staff was courteous and efficient in what they all needed to do. I thank all our armed forces for the jobs they do.
