The Creekstone is a newly renovated boutique hotel and stylish modern slant on a mountain lodge. It…read morefeatures 9 stylishly designed guest suites and is nestled in the serene landscape of historic Idyllwild. The property includes free on-site parking, Yale smart door locks that require a passcode for entry, free WiFi, a complimentary cold brew & kombucha station and a lively social space including gaming amenities like shuffleboard, Jenga and other board games. We enjoyed our 3-day stay in room 201 which included a king bed and a daybed. Seven of the rooms feature stunning electric fireplaces and this room was one of them. Our only complaint was that the Casper mattresses they use in their suites were way too soft. It's important to point out that there's no front desk in this establishment, but we did see staff at check-in and at various times throughout our stay. If we ever visit Idyllwild again, we will be booking another reservation at The Creekstone!

This small hotel is nicely done - it's modern, clean and beautiful. However, the service here was…read moreshockingly inhospitable and unavailable. Within 5 minutes of arriving to our room, someone came to inform us that our son wasn't welcome because children under the age of 12 are prohibited. He also informed us that he would be charging us an additional $50 and that if there were any noise complaints, he would bring them to our attention immediately. First off, nowhere when booking does this hotel specify that children are prohibited. It's not clear unless you go to their policies page that it indicates children are 'discouraged'. Do you know why? Because the walls are paper thin. Our child was silent and asleep by 7:30pm but we could hear everything the adults next door were saying and watching on the TV (at reasonable volumes, mind you). And to top it all off, Google says this IS a kid-friendly hotel. Second, should you need anything, you can't get ahold of anyone. There is no front desk and you don't have any service so you can't call anyone or send a text through their SMS service. So I hope you don't need an extra towel or Kleenex because no one will be available to assist you. Except the guy who magically appears to charge you $50 and then is nowhere to be found. It's really too bad that such a nice hotel has such crappy service and is so unkind to families. They forget that parents are regular people too who enjoy get aways without kids and have plenty of parent friends who they will be informing to skip the Creekstone Inn and stay somewhere else.

This was a 5 star place all the way around!!…read more This is a family owned business and you can sense the pride and love that they pour into this property. This hotel has 6 stand-alone units on a large piece of mountain property which is mostly secluded, although it is in an Idyllwild "neighborhood". It is also a brisk 15-20 min walk to the downtown area. A little history of this place - all the cabins were originally built in the early 50's and most of the units still have the original decor & fixtures such as toilets, tile, fireplaces, etc. so you might say this is straight mid-century and not mid-century "modern" . Again, this is a family business that was bought by the grandfather back in 1978 and has been run by his son & daughter-in-law with their son helping out. It is also very well maintained. They have a pool on the grounds that is heated to 80 degrees and no, there is no hot tub. This was the second time we've stayed here. The first time was a few years ago and we stayed in "The Cottage in the Woods" which was wonderful because it is "down the gravel road" away from the other units and is very secluded. My girlfriend was drawn to the hammock in the picture and was disappointed to hear that the deer keep eating the hammocks so they are no longer there. This time we stayed in room 5A (roughly $200 a night with taxes & fees) which was a larger room. The way it is set up, there are 5 separate stand alone buildings with the exact same layout - the A and B sides both have their own private deck with chairs so you can sit out and soak up the nature. The A unit is much larger and comes with a brick fireplace (firewood is available for $6 at the office on the honor system and fire starters are free at the office). There is a small kitchen complete with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, glasses, coffee maker, toaster, fridge, etc. The bed is super comfy and there was also an extra double bed just inside the door. We were here in August and it was warm, so we kept the ceiling fan going the whole time. They also had a box fan in the closet and a wall swamp cooler A/C unit which we didn't really use because the noise makes it hard for my girlfriend to sleep. We really love that basically one wall of the room was floor to ceiling windows which really make you feel like you are a part of the forest! I am also glad that they have curtains that cover said windows so you can have privacy when you want it. The B units are much smaller "mother-in-law suites" which connect to the A units with a door (which stays closed & locked if you don't rent both units). The B units don't have a kitchen (but they do have small refrigerators, microwave and coffee makers). They don't have brick fireplaces but, instead have smaller wood burning chimineas. I felt like the larger room was well-worth the extra that we paid but the smaller units were also nice for those on more of a budget. Each room comes with a nice 32" smart TV and DVD player (They loan out DVDs at the office - see my pic of their DVD library). They have good WiFi - we brought our own firestick and were able to have all our channels, playlists & shows, which was nice. We were here for 2 nights which was good but we have realized that it takes one day to rest, shake off the work week and shift into vacation mode. We wish that we had come for 3 nights to really give us a couple days of good vacation energy, instead of one day to adjust & recoup and a couple of half days of true vacation. Again, this was a 5 star lodging experience and I highly recommend Woodland Park Manor for anyone looking to have a really nice mountain vacation!

Review for the Woodland Park Cottages…read more PROS: - Beautiful scenery! - All kinds of wildlife in the area - Very quiet place to stay. Makes you feel like you're not in CA. - Pet friendly! - Close to downtown Idyllwild. - Cabins are comfortable and nestled in the woods. - Our cabin had a nice little patio deck with a table and chairs. - Cable television that also includes the Dodgers channel! - Full kitchen and bath. - The cabin also has air conditioning(not the best though). - This location has a pool, picnic area, BBQs, and even a ping pong table. - The cabin also felt pretty clean... for the most part. - The rates and prices are great! CONS: - The A/C unit (not central air) was kind of weak during the day when it got really hot. - The lounge chairs inside the cabin were kind of grody, especially the arm rests... - WIFI onsite, but it's really slow. PRO-TIP: - Just FYI, the kitchen sink DOES NOT have a garbage disposal. - Also, expect random thunderstorms during the summer. It was actually pretty cool to see and experience out in the mountains. - If you have VERIZON, the signal in certain parts of the complex is almost non existent.

4.5 Stars! (May / Warm 50º - 78ºF)…read moreWhen we arrived, previous guests had a very smokey fire in the room. It was a little difficult for me to get any sleep the first night because of the smoke smell. But airing it out the next day (and a 10mile hike) helped! AS IDYLLWILD STARTER SPOT = 5-stars! If this is your first time to Idyllwild, this is great. Easy to find. Easy to walk to town. Quiet and away from town center. Budget between "cabin" and "hotel" FIRST TIME to Idyllwild. The address is on Hwy 243. Unlike other major roads, it is empty after 8pm - so don't worry that it might be noisy. It's not. On the plus side: If you've never been here, it's very easy to find. But also away from the center of town (but not so far that you can't walk to it) INNKEEPERS & STAFF The innkeepers who greeted us when we arrived and checked us out were very helpful and extremely friendly. There is a small shop for gifts in the lobby area. Some booking services might not have all of the right information. Call the front desk with questions. They are super helpful. PARKING Easy to find and plenty of parking out front ROOMS (Evergreen) We stayed in one of the original (older) rooms. It has been upgraded with new plumbing and a jacuzzi style jet tub alongside the shower. The room is spacious and comfortably fits all of your gear on one side of the room away from the bed. A big hearth in front of the fireplace is perfect for a make-shift table. The drawback to this particular room (Evergreen) is that you are under the stairs to the rooms above. Not terrible, as most people were in by 9pm. But you will hear them creaking up and down when they leave their rooms. You can't hear them in the rooms. There are other rooms that are not connected or under other people's rooms. Clean sheets Clean towels Nice shower (saloon doors on old shower) Separate toilet/tub room. Pillows are a little flat HVAC works well (workers came in to check it while we were there) Fun/Silly books and board games in the room. - Didn't use fireplace - Didn't use television - Just needed a spot to sleep and shower before the next day's adventure. This was perfect +. COMMON SPACES INSIDE; There is a fantastic common space in the main house/lobby. Large long tables for where they used to serve breakfast. (There is no breakfast service: hotel style coffee en suite) The long tables are great for spreading out maps, games, whatever needs a bunch of space outside of your room. OUTSIDE; 1. Back Deck: There's a warm, sunny deck, protected from wind and hwy sounds. Everyone's room opens onto this space. 2. Gazebo: A small 4 seat gazebo is in the southern garden area. With views of the creek area, this is a great spot to take a nice afternoon rest stop. Nice place to sit to read, or sketch, or just close your eyes for a minute and say "I'm NOT asleep". GETTING AROUND: TO TOWN: The inn is a perfect distance from town. About 7-10 minutes to walk, there's a path that leads from the back door of the inn to the edge of town. STRAWBERRY CREEK is what it's all about. Walking this path back and forth to town is FANTASTIC. The path to town might be THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE INN. The stairs down to the creek path are a little severe, but the path is VERY easy to walk. Driving to town feels silly = 2 minutes. IDYLLWILD PARK (& Campground) Perimeter Hike (4 miles). Strawberry Creek Inn is a short (2-4 block walk) to the campground. The perimeter trail isn't especially technical (although a little steep in some spots), but it's basically just across the street from the inn.

It's about 3 miles from Idyllwild proper (about a five minute drive in fog) but miles away from the commute/stress of everyday life. Gary, the proprietor, is very friendly and laid-back. He showed us to our room (upgraded because the original room has just been painted and still had some fumes) and offered us coffee. We took him up and his offer and asked about the places in town that locals eat. He gave some great suggestions, which we took him up on and were not disappointed. The room itself was IMMACULATE, as were the other rooms that Gary let me tours, and the Lodge as a whole. The room had a small refrigerator, TV w/VCR, coffee/hot chocolate/tea makings, small toiletries, fluffy towels, and a fantastic deck. It was all we needed and more. Breakfast was yummy on both days, with fruit, yogurt, sausage, and homemade muffins/pancakes/french toast offered, along with OJ and coffee. On our last night, Gary had a fire going and we sat until evening chatting away. It was a fantastic stay, and I recommend the Lodge for anyone who loves B&Bs and loves to be social.

From the second we arrived, it felt like someone had asked, "What if we built a hotel fueled entirely by joy, nostalgia, creativity, and just the right amount of weird?" Every inch of the property is intentional. You can tell this wasn't designed by someone trying to create a trendy Instagram backdrop--it was created by people who genuinely delight in delighting others. The themed rooms are works of art. Every time we noticed a detail, we'd immediately find three more. Hidden surprises, thoughtful references, incredible craftsmanship...it's impossible not to grin the entire time you're exploring. It somehow manages to be whimsical without ever feeling gimmicky. But what really made the stay unforgettable was the atmosphere. The free arcade, the hot tub under the pines, the fire pit, the cozy common spaces, breakfast in the morning--it all creates this feeling that you've stumbled into the coolest summer camp for grown-ups. We laughed more in one weekend than we have in months. And the staff? Truly wonderful. Warm, welcoming, and clearly proud of what they've built. That pride shows in everything, from how impeccably maintained the property is to the little touches that make you feel like a guest rather than just another reservation. In a world where so many hotels blur together, Hicksville Pines dares to have a personality--and a huge heart. It's playful, imaginative, peaceful, hilarious, and somehow incredibly cozy all at once. I'm already mentally planning which room I'll book next, because one visit is simply not enough. Thank you for creating a place that reminds adults how to play, encourages curiosity, and makes escaping to the mountains feel genuinely magical. If you're even remotely considering staying here: stop thinking and book it. Life is far too short for boring hotels
