Outstanding birding area, mergansers offshore. Last year, while I was there, I was surrounded by dozens (yes, dozens) of golden crowned kinglets. The trails are relatively easy. The spruce forest is a haven for birds. Last fall I saw an elderly couple come out of the woods with several baskets of mushrooms. I, myself, have foraged for edible mushrooms there many times. The views from the bluff are fantastic. The beach is sandy and lonely. You will rarely encounter anyone on the trails. This is a magical, remote area that is a must visit for nature lovers. Deer, fox, porcupines, and all nature of other little critters. I will reiterate that the birding is wonderful. The area where Point Creek meets Lake Michigan is a magical place. If you want to commune with nature in a truly beautiful place, this is a hidden gem you will not want to miss. Bring someone you love, a bottle of wine, and a picnic lunch. If you're looking for a place to bring the family (with little kids) or somewhere where you're…read moreguaranteed to catch a fish without completely feeling like you're at essentially just netting some fish out of an aquarium, this is a GREAT place to go. It can be expensive, since you're paying by the pound ($8.95/lb) and you're not allowed to throw any back ($5 fee for every fish you throw back). But the experience is worth it if you're in town for a weekend or looking for something a little different to do, but not wanting to be disappointed going home empty-handed. This place was made up of 2 ponds where you could fish, and they were both stocked with trout. Because it's nestled in the forest, you do feel like you're in a legitimate place to fish, and not necessarily at a stocked pond. The pond itself is also murky, like you'd expect nature to be, so you don't really see all the fish in there, but if you catch a glimpse of the fish by the shore, you get the feel that you're pretty much surrounded by fish. Not complaining though! When you arrive, you can rent fishing rods for a $1 each. One of ours broke and he replaced it with another complimentary. He also provides you with worms as bait for $0.50. The owner isn't the friendliest but I don't think means anything by it. We were there for a couple hours and caught four trout, our last one being the biggest, twice as large as the others! We caught three trout that were all around 1-1.5lbs each and then the last one was about 3 lbs! So the pond has a wide variety of sizes to catch from. The owner cleans the fish for you, and you get the choice of cleaned/gutted or filleted. Keep in mind that filleted doesn't necessarily mean fillets like you see at the grocery store, where things are boneless, and you just have the meat. Here, the fillets are essentially cleaned, the main spine is removed, head and tail removed, and split in half but still has the skin and is essentially one piece of fish with two sides. He puts it on ice so it helps keep it fresh on your way home. I'd highly recommend bringing a cooler and your own ice to keep it fresh for longer, in case you were going to do other things in the area after. We left it in the truck, in the ice, in the cooler overnight, and by the time we got back home it had been a little over a day before we got to it. The fish themselves tasted so much better than you get from the store though! It was orange flesh, which means they've been feasting on some good grub like crustaceans, grub, etc., rather than fish food. And the meat was tender, mild yet flavorful, incredibly fresh and delicious.

They also have a very large green space for playing, an event room clubhouse looking building, and a small gazebo. Plenty of parking spaces! The real highlight of the park property is the Columbia Park Tower which is safe to climb and has spectacular views along the way up. I happened to visit during a fishing competition weekend and got to see the boats in action and enjoy a brat fry. Was quite a fun experience and a great use of community space.

We booked an 8 hour charter with our 3 kids. Captain and Cody were very welcoming and informative but not stifling with forced conversations. We caught 2 fish pretty quickly and then there was a lull for a few hours .......... no nibbles ...... Captain Darren and Cody tried VERY hard to help catch fish ( trying different lures, etc...) and they were stumped why they weren't biting. My husband and I really appreciated their efforts and we were all having fun nonetheless. Then my husband went into our cooler and offered everyone a banana. Cody and Darren exchanged glances and shook their heads. They told us bananas are bad luck for fishing. My husband and I had a real good laugh at this superstition and ate all the bananas and tossed out the peels. Ten minutes later, my son caught a King Salmon, and then another, and another - 6 fish pretty quickly! Darren and Cody were great helping the kids reel them in. Long story short: Captain Darren and Cody were wonderful and tried hard to make this a great experience for our family and they SUCCEEDED! Fish or no fish, we all had fun! We did a few charters last year including the Jumping Carp in IL and we already have a few booked for this year. If you have no idea what you're doing and gave never shot a bow, Hunter is the guy to book with. He takes care of his equipment and he will do everything he can to get you your first fish and more! We did our first charter of the year last night and braved the cold and he put us on the fish!

(3 July visit) I forgot that I posted these pictures without a review. I hadn't been here since I…read morewas early teens, so it was about 25+ years. The fishing has not changed, as the blue gill bite within 10 seconds when you fish around the pavilion as you first enter the park. That day was the first time that we took the trail all the way down to the next pavilion about a quarter mile or more down the trail, fishing success all along the way. The facilities are well kept and the families and summer school kids seemed to enjoy all that is offered at the park. We'll be back next fishing season to slay some more blue gills and fire up a grill.
