Entrance to hidden beach

The once popular clothing optional Hidden Beach is no longer nor clothing optional. Looking to escape the 90° heat & sans suit, remembering this place from years ago. Then I saw this! Years have changed things! I went, regardless. Will modern day's morality accept a little skinny dipping. Unh-unh! Plus, thunder storms greeted me. looks like a nice shower at home will suffice."

Hidden Beach was my second home summer of 2007. people would chill and do whatever; smoke weed, drink, socialize. theres an awesome mud pit in the back of the beach that people wrestle in and stuff. it was always relaxing to post up with some beers in the mud. unfortunately, its now a public beach, which breaks my heart. they have lifeguards on the weekends and they turned the winding dirt path through the woods into a gravel road for the coppers to cruise down. i miss the old beach very much, but last i was there it was still good for drinking beers at night by the lake. and everyone should go in the mud at least once. it would be deserving of five stars had it not been publicized. do me a favor if youre ever there and the papos roll up: yell "REDS! as loud as you can... thx.

My favorite beach in the city. But then again who doesn't like a shady path to a tiny beach and giant mud pit?

This place is simply a gem in the west burbs. At least I've fallen in love with it. It's relatively…read morequiet on the water (as they don't allow large motorized boats) which makes it perfect for paddle boarding or kayaking. The beach area seems super "family friendly". Expect to see lots of sandy beach shoreline here and some great amenities too. There is a large newer playground area that seems suitable for most ages. The swimming area is marked off and monitored by life guards. The high dive and large platform dock seems to be a very popular feature and there is also a sand volleyball court. I mostly enjoy paddle boarding ($10) here and staff are always so friendly. The nice thing is that if you rent something they waive the park entry fee ($6). When I've been on the water it's exceptionally clear but if you travel away from the swim area to other parts of the lake you will find it fairly weedy. Nothing though that doesn't stop me from coming back!

This place I have been SOOOO many times! The high dive is so fun and exhilarating…read more... The food is amazing (I recommend SpongeBob popsicle) The water is not polluted because they do not let and speedboats or stuff like that (although you always wonder if something is lurking in the depths....) If you are wearing goggles I recommend looking for the fish under the mini docks, but DO NOT wear them in the deep. It makes everything scaryyyyy~

Come out and visit the Trail Head at Theodore Wirth!…read more It has a fantastic community space and outdoor recreation center. Totally makes winter in Minnesota even better. I'm new to discovering The Trailhead at Theodore Wirth Regional Park, but believe me when I say I'll be back many more time. In the winter, they offer cross-country skiing and lessons. (You can rent a full set of gear for about $30- no need to have your own to experience skiing! They also have à la carte options for cheaper if you only need poles or boots, etc.) Besides skiing, outdoor winter activities also include snow tubing, snowboarding, snowshoeing.... You name it. (I haven't been in fall or summer yet, but I also hear great things about their mountain biking and trail running options.) Inside The Trailhead, there's food and drink concessions, ample seating, lockers, bathrooms, and even rooms for rent. The last time I was there, a family was hosting a young child's birthday party in the multi-purpose room. Altogether, there is an amazing assortment of services here to come and check out. Can't wait for next ski season!

HIDDEN GEM IN THE CITY…read more I've lived on this parkway for 3 years now and I don't think I've shut up about how amazing Theo Wirth is since! The City Chain of Lakes get all the hype, but you know what's even closer to downtown, in the heart of the city, with: a lake xc ski trails fat bike / mountain bike trails endless walking paths beach with volleyball courts public golf course and so much more?! Yeah, that's right - my neighborhood park! You can do about every outdoor activity you can think of here. Plus, the Trailhead is the main hub for all of it, with a restaurant, tons of indoor seating, gear rentals year-round, and an amazing nature space in the heart of the city. This is the perfect park to embrace any season in Minne!

After yesterday's paddle, I gotta say this place is bliss…read more I'd kind of scoped it out a few days prior just by taking a hike around the entirety of the lake to see what all it had to offer besides hiking and biking. I'd parked over by the larger beach (Nokomis Main Beach) on the west side (there's a smaller one on the east side), utilizing the free parallel parking which was available since it wasn't yet a busy afternoon rather than the pay lot. The large beach is quite nice, with some play equipment for the kiddos, a decent restroom facility, even a eatery/ice cream place. Seasonally, there's also a rental place for kayaks/canoes/swan boats if you don't have your own. There's another parking lot on the north end which is nearby a dock that's great for putting in your own kayak/canoe. This is also where you'll find the nearby Community Center with lots more play equipment and tennis courts outside, as well as gyms and rooms inside (open in the afternoons/evenings). It looks to me that the community center offers a lot of classes/activities for kids throughout the year that you can sign up for. I took a quick detour inside and admired their small common area with little library, fish tank, art, etc. Walking around the entirety of the lake will also take you over the car bridge, which offers some nice views. Just north of that bridge is also where the fancier boats are anchored. When I came back the second time with my inflatable kayak, I was able to easily get out onto the water and enjoy my time. Lovely warm September day meant lovely warm lake water, and I paddled the length of it and back, stopping frequently to just lay back and vibe. I especially enjoyed relaxing at the southern end of the lake where the planes fly directly over on their descent into MSP airport. So cool to marvel at!

Lovely little sandy beach with lifeguards, bouyed water boundaries, and semi-private shower and…read morechanging areas. Closest to a California beach experience I've found in the Twin Cities thus far.
