Your choice of grilled protein is placed atop a bed of gallo pinto (Nicaraguan rice and beans), then drizzled with our housemade jalapeno crema + chimichurri sauces, and finished with cotija cheese. Served with a side of our cilantro-lime slaw and sweet fried plantains. This really was a big plate of good, and really hit the spot. Huge amount of pulled pork. Loved the flavors. I had heard of it from Doc Brown, of Doc Brown's BBQ food truck fame. He spent much time describing just how amazing this little taco truck in front of the Dollar General super market was. After working a wedding, I just happened to drive by the place and decided to stop in. There's a hand written menu outside of the little trailer, a couple of chairs, and an umbrella to keep you shaded while you order and eat. I decided on 3 tacos, al pastor, carne asada, and lengua (sup, I like tongue). At $2 a pop the price is right! They had a couple of other items as well, including a spiced pork in flour tortilla and something that sounded a lot like a mexican huarache, but was different and called a tlacoyo.... which I'm not even going to try to pronounce. My order was taken by what I assume was the mother of the family that operates this lovely little spot. My tacos were up super quickly. I can't say for certain... but I think that the tortillas are hand made. Either there, or somewhere close by. They were ultra fresh, and had that slightly imperfect edge. The tacos were served with roasted onion, grilled napoles, and their red and green hot sauces, which both packed a spicy punch. The carne asada was pretty good. Not the explosion of awesome I was hoping for... I was anxious. I wanted this place to kick ass. Looking at my other two tacos I was hesitant to try them. What if they weren't as good as I was hoping for? I bit into the lengua taco and my fears subsided. This is fucking great I thought to myself. Thank goodness. I consumed it with voracious zeal. The Al Pastor was next and the best of the three. The PERFECT balance of spices, carmelization, and just a hint of pineapple. Wow. For 6 bucks this might be the best deal in town. The hours are a bit whacky, I was told they're open Thursday - Sunday from 6 til 11. I'm going to make it a point to be a regular here.

This place had several choices along with several meats to choose from. Soft Tacos to Gorditas you are bound to find something. I choose the tacos Al Pastor, Chicken and Carne Asada. All the meats were fresh and hot with tortillas tasting handmade. Topped with the typical onion and cilantro. They give you salsa on the side. The Gorditas is what got me excited! I love that they use a handmade mass dough to make these. The meat of choice was Carne Asada. They were out of Lengua. I will go back again and again for this. It was my absolute favorite. You order and can sit at one of the tables inside or outside. The owner, Roberto, was so nice. He gave us a couple samples to try. The ceviche was really delicious. We also had a barbacoa plate and a fish taco plate. They make a variety of hot sauces, all from scratch and very fresh. Everything we had was delicious. They have another restaurant in Woodfin that we have yet to try. I am just glad we found this authentic Mexican place!

The menu is simpler - a limited palette. We had the fish tacos, several little tacos autenticos, and fresh guacamole. Perfect. Everything delicious and quickly served. Roberto and his helper were quiet, funny, and gracious. It's December. The sitting room is heated by wood stove - very nicely. The sauces were homemade and fresh. We went home with eight tamales to serve story with wine and appetizers before Christmas dinner. Weaverville is lucky. Do you like the cooking of Gladys or Roberto? Have fun sampling their menus and don't hurry your decision. They are great cooks of authentic Mexican street food.

The trout po boy was excellent. It had a great bacon caper aioli and was on crusty french bread made that morning. The "awesome sauce" with the sweet potato fries was perfectly named. The only thing that really saved our experience was our server and the decor. She was really nice and helpful when issues arose. Two people at my table had an issue with the margaritas being way too sweet and she fixed it right away and said it wouldn't be a charge if they still didn't like it after they fixed it. The chips were stale, I'm almost 100% convinced that they come from one of those tex max chip bags from Walmart. When we get to ordering, I make sure to use the awesome option they have where you can "donate your sides" and turn them into meals for those in need. I was disappointed to see that when my meal was brought out, both of the sides were still there and our server had to check to see if it was still counted for the donation which makes me super skeptical that the program is even real in the first place...no one liked the food, the rice tastes like it's microwaved, the mexican rice tasted like a can on spaghetti o's, the refried beans tasted like canned slop, my chimichanga was soggy, the shrimp was definitely defrosted from the bag and cooked, and the salsa was bland at best. I wish Kitchen Nightmares was still airing, this place would probably be on an episode. Gordan Ramsay would have an absolute field day with this place. Believe it or not, I'm not one to be disappointed with food so easily but this place really takes the cake...you're better off going to the "fancy Mcdonald's" across the street. I'm just so shocked that I really found a place that I absolutely didn't like by any means.
