Love the quaint simple feel with the simplest yet most delicious foods in the Old Genoa - well worth the visit. They open at 7:30pm, in line with 50pp, we got in when opened. Our food was a homemade delicious delight as we were seeking out their KNOWN pesto dishes: trennete and lasagna. If I return I would definitely try the tomato based ravioli and/or trofie pesto. What can I say? Everything is good. The Penne alla Portofino is delicious and I mistakenly ordered it, but ended up very happy. Salsa de noce Here is very good, I especially love the Marinara Mussels and Calamari. If you have a group larger than four, they will often make you to order it "family style" but it's very very good that way. We ate with 7 people essentially an 8 course meal with Wine and altogether it cost about €27 each. And it's in such a lovely area, right in the Porto Antico. had a very good dinner at Cavour miso 21 on a Sunday evening when they just opened. I had the pasta with cuttlefish and bell pepper sauce (Mezzemaniche Seppie) which was excellent, the mixed grilled fish which included fish, calamari, and shrimp (Grigliata di Pesce) which was very good, and tiramisu which was also excellent. I also had some of the house red wine which was surprisingly good for only 5 euros for a half liter. The food was reasonably priced and a great value. Only issue I had was they were extremely busy with about 40 people already in line when I arrived about 10 minutes before my reservation time. I WhatsApp them asking if I should come to the front of the line but did not hear back. When I got closer to the front I told the owner/guy in charge that I had reservations but he said he called out my name and I did not answer so he gave away my table. I ended up waiting an hour to finally get seated even with reservations. I recommend you WhatsApp their phone number and still get there 20-30 minutes early if you want to get a table. The servers were extremely busy but friendly. I came back a few days later for lunch and the food and service were amazing so I bumped my rating up. I had the pesto lasagna, fried fish, and Sorrentina mussels which were all amazing. The entire bill for 3 dishes, 1 liter of wine, water was only 34 euros which was less than I paid For other Meals with less flavor and poorer service. Greeted by a small man with heaps of charisma which started our experience off to a strong start. They said they had no tables for two, but would ask if we could join a previously sat party at their table. Thankfully they said yes and we began our intrusion of what seamed to be a father son reunion. Our presence didnt seem to bother them until maybe our 3rd glass of wine (which was illegally cheap). The waitor basically ordered for us which is really all you can ask for in an italian restaurant. We got the famous pesto pasta that hit perfectly right. Was also a beautiful price. The best pesto in the world! When we arrived there was about a half hour wait and I'm so glad we decided to wait. Everything was delicious. The pesto sauce is perfect because it's not overwhelming, it's subtle and cheesy and it's just sooo good. I've never had a pesto like this. The fried anchovies were crunchy and yummy. And the pasta with seafood was filled with clams and flavorful sauce that we just kept dipping bread into. If you are in Genoa, you gotta try it. read more

Amazing pesto pasta at a very reasonable price point near the Genoa port. The tubete pasta comes with green beans and potatoes. It was 8 euro and also served with bread pieces inside a bag. The sign out front proclaimed them to be the "Pesto World Champion". We had to wait about 15 -20 minutes to be seated. The restaurant is not large - several small rooms - very cramped and nothing fancy; but, so worth it. The atmosphere and vibe were lively and upbeat. We were seated in the upstairs dining room and Ilaria was our server. Of course, we had to order the trenette al pesto con fagiolini e patate (pasta with pesto, green beans and potatoes). Oh my, they really are the champions. This pasta dish was loaded with flavor. In addition to the two pasta dishes, we enjoyed a 1/2 liter of white wine and 1 liter of water - all for the most reasonable price of € 18.50. Went here two nights in a row; both nights we got a pesto dish (trenette the first night, lasagne the second night) and spaghetti aglio olio. The pesto is full-flavored and incredible; the restaurant provides extra parmesan cheese, but I didn't think it was needed. Having tried both, I slightly prefer the pesto dishes with potatoes and green beans to those without; the potatoes soak up the pesto and become small green flavor bombs. The spaghetti aglio olio seemed to be made with an oil infused with garlic and chili, and was also excellent. On the second night we also had the panissa appetizer, which consists of slightly crispy cubes made from chickpea flour, topped with chopped onion - I found the cubes great as comfort food, but this isn't a dish for people who dislike onion. I am vegetarian, and there were plenty of options for me (albeit not a lot of choice in the appetizers); the staff are also very happy to answer questions about which dishes are vegetarian. This place is also incredibly inexpensive; a filling, satisfying dinner for two adults (water + appetizer + two pasta dishes) set us back only 13-14 euros total. It's also fast; I think we were in and out within half an hour both nights (we chose to go hunting gelato rather than get dessert). read more

Well-deserved champion of pesto, we had an absolutely delicious meal at Cavour 21. The pesto dishes, lasagne and spaghetti, were cooked with perfection and the homemade pesto was very appreciated. We took the mussels alla marinara afterwards and they absolutely delivered. Finally, the Panna cotta in fruit sauce went down in an instant, devoured without a second thought.
