It was our first time here. I asked the server for a recommendation, and she steered us toward the subs. When I looked around and saw the quality-looking subs, we ordered an Italian sub, a Bbq chicken pizza, and onion rings. The pizza had big chunks of flavorful, moist chicken. The sub was filled with meat and oh so flavorful! The restaurant is in the Kroger strip mall, has a robust stream of take-out, and lots of basic seating. Ordered three (3) half grinders. Ingredients were plentiful. They were ready for pickup on time. But the buns was hard and burnt. Price was a lot more than presented on the menu. Female worker had a loud and piercing voice which was used to communicate to another worked from the customer sitting area back to an employee in the kitchen. read more

Cavoni's pizza has been around Hillsdale for years, the pizza, subs and nachos are my preference, their quality and service are great for the area, that doesn't have any other locally owner pizza restaurants, the rest of the pizza places are chain stores. Smell and taste of their pizza is Hillsdale is best in my opinion. You know when you go into a business and people are filling most of the tables, that's a good sign. read more

We recently picked up some take out subs for a small group. Boy, are Cavoni's grinders huge! Yum. We ordered a couple clubs and a veggie. The only complaint was that one person thought there were too many olives on the veggie grinder. Otherwise, we all LOVED the club grinders. The right amount of meat, cheese, lettuce and mayo. The bread/bun was the right size, as well. Not too thick. Thanks for a great meal. We've heard great things about your grinders. Now we have confirmed the deliciousness. They don't run any specials, which coming from a big city seems kind of weird to me. Also, not having an online menu made it a little difficult to decide if I wanted to eat here. I asked some locals what they thought about their pizza and both of them gave a resounding "best pizza in town!" response. A couple of guys and I tried eating here cause it had the best reviews in town. We showed up 10 minutes before they closed and as we walked in the people in the restaurant groaned and said loud enough for us to hear "we should have locked the door before they came in!" Needless to say we left. I understand that no one likes business right as they're closing but it's a very small town and we were there because of an athletic competition at the local college. We were in Hillsdale for an event today and decided to grab some subs before heading home... what a great surprise! We ordered a pizza sub and the Italian... might be the best sub I have ever eaten! Bread was wonderful... just the right thickness... crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Generous amounts of all ingredients. The half sub is big... like 9-10 inches. Prices were great for the amount of food we got. We ordered to go and it was hot and ready at the time we were told. Overall an excellent choice! read more

I used to like this restaurant when I was younger but not anymore. The past several times I've gone in to pick up carry out I was met with rude service. The food is ok. It is certainly not worth the lofty price. A tastier comparable entree can be found elsewhere for a much better price and served with a smile versus inhospitable staff. There was one occasion I went in and stood at the counter waiting to be helped while the staff continued their conversation. When I was acknowledged it was as if I was inconveniencing him to have him do his job. Similar behavior is modeled there every time I go. I only go to pick up for others. Before, I had only gotten the Cavoni Club grinder for take-out, which was pretty good. In november, I went with my mother and brother for a birthday lunch. The food was good, I ordered a Calzone, and they both ordered a pizza sub. Good food for a good price! My problem was the service: Yes, there was an 8-person table in there (and a two other two-person tables who had obviously been eating awhile). No, that does not mean you can skimp on service to the other tables! There were 3 servers, and it took 10 minutes for them to take our order. After we'd ordered, it took something like 25 minutes to wait for our food to come out-- a table that had come in shortly after we'd ordered were given their food first! Also, the waitress never came back to check up on us. A huge no-no in food business! They weren't exceptionally busy, but she never came back to fill our cups (we all had empty glasses halfway through the wait), check on how everything was, or give us containers to take-home. I ended up having to go to the counter to get my check and some containers. A few months later, on a cold and lazy Saturday, we decided to order all the same things for take-out. Not nearly as good. The calzone was salty, the grinders were barely warm (I had taken them straight from the restaurant home, which is a 3-minute drive at most) and cost more than dining in-- without being served the chips as a side. Sigh. You just can't win here. Another thing-- the inside of the restaurant is actually an eyesore. The lighting is rather dark, and they have random neon signs along the wall. read more

Love the Pizza and the Subs. One waitress in particular is great, however, she now works the early shift and we miss her for dinner. Other waitresses aren't so good. Not too fond of the owner. This is a must for my family and I when we come up. We are from ohio and we visit my grandma in Hillsdale and we always order from here when she isn't cooking. I usually get a grinder and it's usually Italian. I decided to try the french dip the last time and wasn't entirely impressed but then again my ex was a chef and he made these for us a few times so I think that was my complaint. My grandma loves the french dip. The fries are fantastic. The pizza is great. But the grinders are my favorite. I ordered from here on Saturday for lunch and my order was ready in under 15 minutes which was amazing because I was hungry. Great customer service too. I love it. You'll love it. Oh and I usually order a half for my grinder which are $6.75. This is more than enough food for me and I eat a lot. You get way more than what you pay for. I hope this doesn't change ever. I'd say their halves are comparable to subway's footlong. Definitely worth it. read more

Food is really quite good, the pizza is the best in town. I suggest doing take out so that you will not see the small children running through the kitchen touching the food preperation areas with dirty hands or the "extra" people walking through the kitchen smoking cigarettes. Another pet peeve is that this is a smoking rest. and the smoking section for the staff is within 5 feet of the cash register so you must endure cigarette smoke just to pay for your meal. If sanitation and hygiene is important do take out so you don't see the problems. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Hillsdale. I have never had a bad experience here. The grinders are AMAZING! I can only eat 1/2-3/4 of the half grinder. The portions are huge for the cheap price. I have been to Cavoni's many times. Great food, both subs and pizza, as well as most everything else. As others have said, atmosphere and decor are non-existent. I think the service is good, but if they have a full house it can get slow. The other thing, while it's a family joint and people are in and out of the kitchen, I think it's a very clean place and the kitchen always looks clean and organized. This is easily the best place in Hillsdale and I would go there even if it were in a big city and I had far more choices. read more

I have had mostly positive experiences here. Never a problem with the food. A whole sub is huge, easily split between two people. The nachos came out a little flat and the pizza was average for the area.
