Thank goodness I had an extra bottle of bath and body works body spray . I sprayed almost the whole thing so that I could hopefully fall asleep with smelling anything related to the room . What I liked: I have to state that it feels like one of those themed hotels. This time, instead of a school house, it actually does remind me of a house. The front door of my room has a knob and a top lock, like a house door would. The place could be defined as quaint (cue Ed Helm in The Hangover telling his wife that he is staying with his friends at a quaint hotel for the bachelor party...good movie). The amenities they have are interesting. They have a coffee machine in the room that can load up to 40+ ounces of liquid in the back of it and make 3 full 10z cups of coffee before it has to be refilled above the minimum line. There is a DEHUMIDIFIER. I do not think I have ever seen one in my life. I always used to have a humidifier, but never a DE... The room comes with a microwave and fridge which is always good. The television has A TON of channels, even adult ones (which one has to order on demand if you are into that stuff) and music channels (think Spectrum, highest tier cable). Inconsistences: I found that one bulb on one of the lamps, near the microwave and fridge does not work. The button seems to be broken as well. I am assuming the one by the bed turns left and one can hear it click to turn the lamp on, but this one can just be turned without any kind of resistance. There is a limited amount of free outlets in the room. The fridge and microwave take up one. The coffee maker and the nonworking lamp take another, under the table. The switches to the various parts of the room and the bathroom are in unconventional places. For instance, if I want to go to the sink area, I would think the light switch would be near the sink. It is actually on the wall before entering the sink area. This is the same thing in the bathroom. I would think it would be on the inside wall, but it is on the outside. There is no center light in the bed portion of the room, one only has the two lamps serving each bed side (somehow I ended up with two queens, then again I am not paying for the room...lol). Overall, I think this hotel, though seemingly unheard of because it is in the middle of nowhere, is pretty competitive with other hotels. They offer complimentary breakfast beating out IHG, Marriot, Wyndham, and Hilton chains. Edit: I found out the morning after I had arrived that the breakfast is only dried foods (cereals, doughnuts, honeybuns). Nothing is hot. Still, better than hotels that make you pay or do not offer anything. Not a bad experience, just unique. I think they also barbecue for guests during lunch by the amount of grills I see and they even have a food truck! Feel bad I could not be there for that since I am just staying for the night.

There ARE permanent residents I suspect are on 3rd floor. The resident above me paced back and forth ALL night. ALL night. I turned on the lights between the beds and those worked. At least now I can see. There was another floor lamp over by the window. It worked and had 2 bulbs so I took one out to switch with lamp above the dresser. Guess what? There wasn't even a bulb in there. No wonder it didn't work. Not so fast. I screwed in the bulb and it still didn't work. I checked to make sure the lamp was plugged in and, you guessed it, it was unplugged. I attempted to plug it in but the cord doesn't reach the outlet. Really?!? I put the bulb back in the floor lamp and drug the floor lamp over to the dresser. I placed it on top of the dresser so I would have light to see my suitcase. At least the bed was comfortable. I actually slept pretty good. The next morning I left fairly early to visit my son and his family. That evening when I came back I went to get some ice. The ice machine is out of order with a note saying to go to the front desk. No one was there. I rang the bell. No one. I went outside to leave again and the clerk was outside, smoking I think. She told me to have a good night. Other things that need attention: Coffee but no coffee cups No "Do not Disturb " placard for the door Kleenex box was empty Toilet tissue was almost empty and another partial roll was on top of the dispenser A couple hairs and other moop in the tub A power cord and men's underwear (clean I think/hope. It was still folded) in the dresser drawer. No pen or paper in the room. Elevator smells like bug spray (3 days so far). Time to find a new place when I visit next time. $82-85/night is way too much for a place with this many problems.

While the room itself was fairly clean and the beds were nice, the overall presentation sucked. The paint job was horrible. The room had previously been a deep red/maroon and was painted over in an off white color. The crappy paint job was more than apparent on the outlet covers. While functionally speaking this is a non-issue, presentation, especially in the hospitality business, is everything and this lack of tidiness proves that this was more than just an oversight....the owners simply don't care enough. Now the bathroom, that was a pit. My husband braved the shower, but I absolutely refused. The tiles were slapped on at an angle where the wall meets the tub, and while there may or may not have been mold growing, the grout lines sporadically were gray/black when they were meant to be white. The toilet seat was broken and we most certainly told the front desk about it. Also, the light above the mirror didn't work (the overhead light did, but ladies know the importance of that mirror light). We told the front desk about that too, but nothing was done about it. The kleenex box/cover that fits into the countertop was missing, and there was a ton of toilet paper stuck on the toilet plunger (blech!). I kept footwear on whenever I touched the floor in the room because I just couldn't trust it. The kicker to this wonderful (she says, voice dripping with sarcasm) stay, was that the room was continuously muggy. It didn't matter how high or how much we ran the air conditioning, the room was always humid. On the morning we checked out, I happened to look out the window, whose curtains we had never opened because we were in the room at night only. There was a HUGE crack in the window, and when I pushed on it, the glass actually pushed out enough to make something like an eighth of an inch gap to the outside! I could feel the outside heat and humidity rush in. At checkout, we had to wait for the front desk guy (one of the owners or a family member) to finish his smoke outside before coming in to help us. We informed him of the crack and in no uncertain terms told him that we better not get charged for it. I also found out that the owners of Red Roof Inn also own the Days Inn across the street, another hotel I've had issues with (ants). So, my recommendation still stands.....avoid this hotel! 21/2026
