Amazing ambiance with piano bar. Saw couple of well lit boats passing by when we got there for dinner (told my wife I paid them to be there exactly when we were arriving ;)). Our server (Kayla) was amazing and was on top of everything. I was surprised to see the quantity for the lamb lollipop. We ordered lamb to be cooked medium rare but it came out rare and the rib eye medium rare which came out medium but both meats were extremely tender and flavorful. Great spot for a date! read more

I am usually by myself but had my Mother (82) with me last week and they all made a big fuss over her. She felt so special and wants to come back soon....too bad she lives in Wisconsin :( The lovely staff make this restaurant what it is!!! I need to shout out some names... Nice classy interior, which was lovely. Good service. Food was just okay. I felt my steak didn't have much flavor or seasoning to it. The creme brûlée was overcooked. The mashed potatoes tasted horrible, very bitter, like the bottom of the pot had been burned. For the price, I expect better quality from a steakhouse like this. read more

The seafood was fresh and perfectly prepared, we split dessert, and the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were enormous and delicious. Our very first visit here... This is part of Bally's Casino in Evansville, Indiana so it would not be fare to compare to places we have dined at in Las Vegas at casinos. We made reservations in advance and were seated right away upon our arrival. The staff was very polite and professional. Our table was by the window with a river view. The restaurant was nicely dimmed and the atmosphere was one of fine dining. The singing piano player in the bar area was an unexpected surprise and was very enjoyable. We started our meal with a couple of appetizers, my wife had the French Onion Soup and found it tasty. I had the Tuna Poke, it was ok but can't say I would order it again. For our dinner my wife had the Prime Rib (which comes by itself). I had a chef feature the Blackened Redfish over Corn salsa. We split an order of Augratan Potatoes. Wifey loved the Prime Rib and she knows her prime rib!!! The Potatoes were a hit!!! The fish was good but would have been helped with a little more blackening and some more viscous sauce. The bread accompanying the meal was fresh but does not come warm to the table. A nice touch was the fresh roasted garlic that comes with the butter. The meal was very enjoyable and filling, service as great! Only reason I don't do five stars is I save that for places that go above and beyond. Dinner for 2 was about $150. First off the food is very good. The steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The service was pretty good as well. Dinner for 2 was $200 which is what I was expecting for our anniversary dinner. The view of the river is very picturesque. The atmosphere was worth $35. The dense cigarette smoke from the casino is inescapable. There was a guy on piano who was basically Great Value brand Randy Newman playing and singing loudly. So loudly that even though we were at the opposite end on the restaurant, it was disruptive. The tables are close together so on a Saturday night there was no way to have a private conversation with a group right next to us talking loudly. I'm glad I went since it is a notable place to eat in town, but we won't be back. There are better options in town with better atmosphere, at a better price, and in completely non-smoking buildings. read more

Don't waste your money. Had heard Cavanugh's was the place to go for a steak dinner. My wife and I both ordered the filet. I ordered the scalloped potatoes and my wife ordered the mashed potatoes. Both of our filets were lukewarm at best. The mashed potatoes were cold. I'm not saying slightly warm. I'm saying cold. Sent them back in the next came out the same. The only part of this meal that was semi hot was the scalloped potatoes. Don't waste your money. Go to Burger King. It would be better. read more

One of our favorite places to celebrate! We enjoy sitting by the window near the fireplace and piano to enjoy the river views, music and fireplace ambience. Definitely make reservations for a more enjoyable experience! Now for the food-My filet was cooked perfectly and I added asparagus which were served with hollandaise sauce- delish! My husband had prime rib and a baked potato-which was huge and he said was amazing. We ended our meal by choosing 1 of their desserts from the dessert tower, which we picked a red velvet dessert! He just recently had the same thing at Deacon's in Nashville and he says there is a big difference. He finished the steak in Nashville as it was savory. If I had actually been able to get in... maybe I could have given it a better review. I had a group of 10 show up... the restaurant is completely empty... but they won't seat us b/c we don't have a reservation. Prior to that we are sitting in the bar area and we have a few friends show up and try to throw a few extra chairs on to our table so they can join us. The server says that isn't allowed. Again the place is dead empty. Add to that the fact that the hostess was a complete B about the whole thing. You are a steakhouse in a craphole smoky casino. Much better than the first time I was here about 8 months ago, when my steak was not medium rare (warm pink center) it was raw. This time I had the salmon it was decent, with a bbq glaze the bbq gave an odd flavor profile that I want crazy about, they forgot our augrautin potatoes that we ordered, but we were talking so much at a business mtg we forgot also till we left. Max and Erma's salmon in another of my reviews was better and less than half the price The ahi tuna appetizer was done perfectly and I enjoyed, the view from my table of the river and boats was nice on a bright 630p day in April. The piano in the lounge was too loud, you couldnt talk to the person next to you, and maybe taht was why the lounge was mostly empty, the update it got in the last 3 months looks nice. They have all the infrastucture in place to become a 5 star review, they just need to do a bunch of small stuff missing our potatoes cost them a star. read more

Great Filet Mignon, Wedge Salad, Crab Cakes, and service. Josh (bar tender) is friendly and provides excellent service. I stopped in late on a Sunday evening. The piano guy keeps you entertained if you are seeking a relaxing evening. My only issue is the price difference between the 6oz filet and the 8oz filet. For two additional ounces of steak, the price is significantly higher and in my humble opinion, not in range for consideration to upgrade to the 8oz. Needless to say, I chose the 6oz. The 14oz NY Strip Steak seems like the better deal of the three. I shall return and select the NY Strip next time I'm in town. read more

I waited for a few days to write this just to make sure I was still feeling as negative as I was at Cavanaugh's last Friday, June 19th. I still feel it was a bad experience at high prices that were in no way justified. The salads are OK -- nothing to write home about though -- and quite plentiful. We wondered if that was because they wanted you full when the entrees arrived with their small portions (salmon entrée was less than 1" by 4" in size for $32 ala carte.) Crab cakes were also very small and had way too much breading versus crab in them. Prime rib looked big enough when delivered but 1/2 to 2/3 of the portion served was fat and inedible. Remainder was overcooked, dry and tough. We discussed sending three of our four meals back but did not think it would make any difference. Finally, it was the worst lobster bisque I have ever had and I have had it allover the world. Yes, they had added lobster claw meat tips to it, but it tasted very bland otherwise and had a layer of some sort of oil floating on top of it. I did not finish it (unusual for me) and even thought it was much worse than some we bought at Walmart! A Rock A Bar pizza would have been much better! (Local joint on South 41) read more

Very pricey, as all Cavanaugh's are, but always very good. Restaurants of this style can always (in my opinion) be judged by the quality of their sea bass, and Cavanaugh's has excellent sea bass. The scallops are also quite good. Plentiful delicious options on the menu aside, my favorite thing about this restaurant is the roasted garlic brought to the table with fresh bread. Came here for a late dinner and was not disappointed. The ambiance, the service, staff and food all receive 5 stars. I ordered the spinach salad and it was delicious and just enough. For my entree I had the blackened Neptune: beef, crab meat, shrimp and Yukon masked potatoes. The beef was well seasoned and cooked perfectly (medium/rare), the crab meat was the best thing I had flaky and seasoned wonderfully, the shrimp the least impressive and still deserving of a 5. While you wait for your food you can listen to the pianist play, enjoy the view of the river, or just the atmosphere in and of itself. I keep hoping that this restaurant would decide to grow up and become what it should be. The best Selteak and Seafood restaurant in the Tri-state area. Food is mediocre at the very best, the Prime rib is far from aged or Prime, the Filet's are dry, flavorless and improperly prepared, the side dishes taste like they came from a cafeteria buffet line, and flavorless. The staff from floor manager to hostesses to waiters have a laxidasicle attitude of, 'so what, why get/be better when leadership has no expectations. Sad, sad situation for a great location and endless possibilities. We shared our disappointment with the manager, he listened, made excusses for hia staff blamimg them for being immigrants and walked away. The waiter then came back and asked if we had a problem, we reiterated our disappointment with the service, nothing except more excuses about being too busy in a 30% seated establishment. I hope they grow learn and understand who keeps the lights on, but I doubt change will ocurr. I welcome feedback both supporting and descenting. It's a sad story. read more

This was an excellent restaurant. The steak was perfect, it was cooked exactly right, it had a great fat ratio and was well worth the money. Not advertised as prime but it was close! The lobster Mac and cheese should not be missed, can't say enough about it's cheesy goodness. My husband and I shared a salad and a huge piece of carrot cake for dessert. We left extremely satisfied. Our server Shana was top notch, we have been traveling to New York and Chicago and she put those servers to shame! Absolutely Fantastic! We had the most wonderful meal and a Fabulous waiter, John. My boyfriend got a delicious seafood scampi with Enormous shrimp and I got a Queen Cut Prime Rib. We didn't think we could handle Deseret after all that food, but I'm so glad we did, the Crème Brulè was so worth it. We're terrible picky with Creme Brulè, but it was Perfect here. This place is truly a hidden gem. You need to park in the Tropicana casino garage to get to it; so there is plenty of parking. Although the ambiance feels much more upscale, it is definitely casual. My friends and I are from NJ/NY area and we were dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, but we felt right at home. Service was impeccable. We all had appetizers... french onion soup and crab cakes... all perfect. I was surprised at how great the crab cakes are being so far from a coastline. The complimentary cornmeal bread with roasted garlic is awesome. Then our perfectly cooked rare porterhouse steaks came with asparagus and creamed spinach. The house wine perfectly compliments the steaks; no need to get an expensive brand. The bar is fully stocked with a wide variety of bourbons and scotches. What an awesome place.
