Causeway Islands Park is exactly that...and a bit more. We've never been to the "Park" part. But see it the way it is: the Gulf on either side of the Causeway Bridge and locals just taking a dip, lounging in their own beach chairs and enjoying a bite or fishing. I'm not sure how to get there or where to park as we've never gone on that journey to frolick inches away from the Causeway. But on a different note, if you check their website, The Causeway is the only gateway to get to Sanibel Island- taking you from Point A: Fort Myers into Point B: Sanibel Island (vice versa)...and that's it. $6 is all you pay from Fort Myers to enter Sanibel Island. Trekking to Fort Myers is FREE. One of the things I love to see as we're crossing the Causeway, is that initial uphill and a stunning view of the Turquoise Gulf that always takes my breath away.

I miss driving over this beautiful causeway everyday. I grew up on Sanibel, and it was something I definitely took for granted. I don't make it back nearly often enough. I never understood though why people pay the bridge fee just to hang out on the causeway instead of the actual Sanibel beaches. They do have the best view of the fireworks over the water and Sunrise service for Easter. The little things I miss dearly.

A great place to watch the sunset. You can shell here too. Pelicans are back, the red tide hurt them because their food source was killed by the algae and they starved. But they're back and will beg you for food, the little cuties.

Even though we stay on Sanibel I like to stop and on both sides of the causeway beaches. The parking is free .. nice place to picnic, play in the water, go shelling, see water birds and an occasional ray, manatee, dolphin and even shark. The water here is calm and relatively clear.

This is the Memorial Weekend, and if you want to go to Sanibel/Captiva to capture some sun. Good luck! The beaches are packed and impossible to find parking unless you start your adventure before dawn. What to do? How about Causeway Islands Park. This is an excellent alternative if you don't want to deal with crowds. A short drive over the bridge and you are in. No parking fee, traffic and ample parking space. Bathrooms are available and you can prepare your own food here. Better yet, there are two islands or three sections where you can make a stop! Be warned that they are not as spectacular or tropical as Sanibel or Captiva. The two islands or three sections are located in the bayside of the Sanibel/Captiva. In addition to fishing and swimming, you can bring your Jet ski, floats, kayak and launch without any problem . On the other hands, you can go under the bridge and navigate through the gulf waves. There are two negatives. It is not a sandy beach and beach are narrow. You must bring your own food and beverage. For the convenience, OK, we will take that for this holiday weekend!

Beautiful sandy park on the way to Sanibel island. This is worth a stop to put your feet in the water and soak up the Florida sun or see the sunset Expansive long water front. Plenty of free parking on each side. You can park within 5 feet of the waterPlenty of shade if you want it. Picnic tables too Plenty of space to have privacy The sand is full of shells so you might want beach shoes Beautiful view Really worth a stop Popular for family tailgating picnics because you can park so close to the water

Not much beach space, but it works!

3 stars! Season is in full swing, so the beaches are packed packed packed and so are the roads! While I prefer going to Sanibel and Captiva for my fun in the sun day getaways, sometimes the forces of traffic are against ya, so we decided to check out the Causeway Beaches for the first time. The Causeway beaches are a pretty good alternative if you don't want to deal with the crowds and prices of going over to Sanibel & Captiva. You pretty much pop over the bridge and boom your there. No parking fees to deal with, ample parking, and no traffic to stress about, on what is supposed your relaxing day at the beach. The beaches themselves are not as spectacular as Sanibel & Captiva, as you are on the bay/river side of the Islands, but they are swimmable and sufficient to catch some rays. The beach along the causeway is narrow and limited space wise, so you are pretty much sitting in the water with your beach set up. Always a good thing on those uber hot days when you need to have your feet in the water to keep from melting into the hot sand. Lot's of trailers park themselves along the Causeway since I don't believe they can go over to Sanibel/Captiva due to their size. So sometimes you feel like your in a glorified RV park depending on the number there are that day, but it never looks too intrusive. Fishing and water sports seem to be super popular here, since you can just drive your car up the water. There are bathrooms, which is a plus compared to many of the smaller beaches along Sanibel & Captiva and covered picnic tables if your looking for a little beach party spot. While nothing truly tropical surrounds you, as you have on Sanibel & Captiva, the convenience is the main draw to these beaches, so if that is your main motivation then have at it!

Free free free. Free parking, which is a big deal around the beach. You do have to pay to get on the bridge and there are no restrooms or changing areas.

Got here early to watch the sunrise and so my boyfriend could get an early start on fishing today. The beaches seem to be kept clean. Suggest getting here early-seems to get busy later on

We stopped over here at Causeway Island B to do a little fishing. There is a Causeway Island A and a Causeway Island B. The B location has restroom and picnic tables. My dad has fished here a few times. We made the trip over to the causeway island. You have to pay $6 to use the bridge to get over to Sanibel Island. We didn't stop at the Causeway Island A location. I think that there is just some beach locations there and some fishing spots. The Causeway Island B has picnic tables, beaches, fishing locations and rest rooms. The rest rooms are pretty good, I've seen rest stops with nastier bathrooms, just saying. During high season, the traffic is bad getting to Sanibel Island and the Causeway Island. We arrived at the Island B about 9:30am and there was already a lot of cars parked along the spots. The parking is on both sides of the island. You're able to park near the beach and then lounge by the water. We parked and my mom and cousin stayed at the beach and the men went to the northern side of the island and fished. The sides of the fishing areas are paved with bricks, making for a nice area to fish from. The pavement is about 5 feet from the water, so you don't walk down in the water to fish, but fish from above. We fished from 9:30am to about 3pm. We caught a few black point sharks. We kept them and actually ate them tonight, so good. The black point shark is a great fish. We also caught a sting ray, puffer fish and a small founder, all of which we tossed back. Be careful with the puffer fish! We also caught bunch of pin minnows that we used as bait for the sharks. I heard that they sell pin minnows at bait places for a dollar a piece! The island is a neat little place to fish. I think it would be okay to lounge as a beach, but during season its REALLY crowded. If you have the option, Cayo Casta beach is a much better place to lounge, but you've got to take a ferry to get there.

It's not the prettiest beach on Sanibel, but it's definitely the most convenient. Free parking and pet friendly makes it a great spot if I want to just walk for a few minutes before enjoying the sunset.

Great place to fish, swim, paddleboard or just lay in the sun. It's great because you can park your car right where you want to be, you don't need to haul your stuff a mile just to lay out and get some sun. Beautiful sunsets too.

Off season traffic is nice :)

If you love shells, beach walks, wildlife, or sunsets--this place is magic. Arrival & Parking: We arrived around 10 AM on a Tuesday in November and had no problem finding parking. The lot is bigger than some reviews claimed--easily fits 40-50 cars--and I noticed there was also a secondary parking lot nearby. At the entrance, there's a pay station where you can pay by the hour (card or phone). Super easy, and you can extend your time right from your phone. You even get a 15-minute alert before your time is up--so helpful! There are clean restrooms and outdoor showers right near the parking area. From there, you follow a walking path toward the beach, and you cross a bridge over a little river. Look in the water--there were manatees swimming! We also saw turtles, pelicans, and other birds along the trail. Such a beautiful start. On the Beach: Once you step onto the sand, it feels like you're in a shell collector's dream. Just like all the YouTube videos and blog posts--you really do find beautiful shells everywhere, especially medium and small ones. The beach is large--both in width and length--so even though there were a lot of people, it never felt crowded. Everyone had plenty of space to relax. Dogs are allowed on leash (we brought ours), and we saw several other friendly dogs too. Bring water for them--it gets hot fast. There is no natural shade on the beach. Trust me--bring a pop-up tent or canopy and a rolling beach cart if you have one. We had a big lay-down tent and it made a huge difference. If I go again, I'd definitely bring a rolling cart for our gear. Things You Absolutely Want To Bring (Mandatory): -Zinc sunscreen (Florida sun is no joke--even in November). -Water shoes or sturdy sandals (shells in the water can be sharp). -Bug spray (my friend got sand flea bites, I didn't--but it's possible). -Lots of water and snacks for you and your dog (heat + humidity = quick dehydration). -A spray mister bottle to spray my dog. I was worried about heat exhaustion. So glad I brought him, though! He had the best beach day EVER. -Tent or shade structure. The sun and humidity was intense, even for November. I wouldn't ever go with a tent. -Blanket to sit on -Wet wipes for hands -Rolling beach cart if you're carrying gear. Would have been helpful. -Cooler, food, towels, sunglasses. Facilities & Environment: The property is very well maintained--clean bathrooms, multiple shower areas to rinse off sand, trash cans everywhere (please use them--everyone else seemed to be doing a great job keeping the beach clean, which I appreciated). Everything felt thoughtfully designed. Departure & Sunset Experience: After spending the day shelling, walking, and relaxing at Bowman's Beach, we drove all the way to the end of the island (about 15-20 minutes) to watch the sunset--and I HIGHLY recommend doing the same. The sunset looked just like California (I'm from the Pacific coast)--gold, peach, purple, pink, and soft cotton candy blues, all reflecting on the water. You can literally watch the sun melt straight into the ocean. It was breathtaking. Final Thoughts: Bowman's Beach is peaceful, beautiful, full of shells, wildlife, and space to breathe. It felt like a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Whether you're there for a day trip or a full vacation--go prepared, bring shade, water, sunscreen, and let the day work its magic. 110% worth the drive. DREAM SHELL TRIP!

You'll also definitely get your steps in here as the parking lot of property ~.5 miles to the actual beachfront & water, disclosing walking around to stake out a spot. The biggest reason to come here is for the shelling, which can be fortuitous during the right time of year and even the right area on the shoreline. Honestly, were it not for the shelling it probably wouldn't be a beach I'd come back to. It's nice, of course, but doesn't have that gorgeous cerulean water and ultra soft sand that some of the gulf coast beaches are known for. It does have a lot of amenities on the walk between the parking lot & beach shore, such as bathrooms & changing rooms, rinse stations, a picnic area, educational signs, and even a playground. You also have to pay for parking- and the lot has quite a lot of parking, but if you don't get there early enough on the wrong weekend it could still be tough to find a spot.
