Taking iced coffee to-go is fairly difficult since they don't have the plastic cups, only paper ones for warm drinks. Altogether it's a smartly decorated cafe that makes you want to stick around and sip your favorite pick-me-up in the roasted coffee bean air.

If you don't live in Leiden, you need to petition them to open a branch wherever you live. We had a focaccia bagel and a plain Jane bagel. The former was extraordinary. It was something never imagined before. Imagine a hearty meal, but on a bagel. The cream cheese with chives was true to name. Also fresh and smoothly delicious. We bagged 2 bagels for next day's breakfast. The owner is friendly and loved sharing the story behind his bakery. We talked for so long that I had to get another coffee even though it was well past their closing time. The bagels are all made at the shop from fresh ingredients. It's a real bakery. They even have some cakes and desserts, if you so desire. The seating inside is cozy. The coffee good and strong. It is now one of my favorite stops in Leiden.

This week, they were also closed on Wednesday and Thursday. So, you have to ask... Do they even want to be in business? Also, students and remote workers are not welcome, as the sign clearly says "SORRY NO LAPTOPS TABLETS" which is pretty much at odds with almost every other coffee shop on the planet, and out of touch. Coffee shops where people can work and study become valuable local fixtures with loyal customers, who then promote your store to others. This is lost on short-sighted owners who don't see the value of welcoming people. I live nearby and I've only caught them open ONCE, and to be honest, the coffee was decent but it's still not worth the risk of spending your time to walk there, and finding them closed (which they usually will be). All of those places are great, but this one is still worth considering because: A) It's next to the Pieterskerk, aka in an area with relatively few other cafes (ok you could walk 3 minutes down the road to the busy area but one gets lazy when living in such a small town) B) It's still relatively unknown and has an unpronounceable name, so you're very likely to get a table C) They make great coffee, and I've heard they have insanely good sandwiches. D) It's adorable and very cozy. E) I'm pretty sure it faces the part of the square where they used to hang people. Perhaps a turn-off for some people, I think it's kind of cool - counterbalances the quaintness. Worth a look anyway!
