Natalie has the biggest heart of anyone that I've ever met and Cattails saves hundreds of cats from suffering every year. We met Natalie because we had just arrived in Manhattan when we found a kitten in a parking lot. We ended up adopting the kitten back after we moved into our house and I was impressed with the application process. Natalie speaks with every adopter one-on-one and I really enjoyed her commentary on our application answers. You can tell she's a person who really wants the best for the adopters and the cats. A few months later we found another cat in that same parking lot and after one call with Natalie we had that cat caught. Every time there has been a cat in need, Natalie has been there to help us help the cat. So many of my friends got their cats from Cattails and love Natalie! She is absolutely disgusting. I don't recommended adopting from her or using her as a 'rescue'. I took in a pregnant stray cat that gave birth nearly immediately. We planned to keep all the kittens and mom, and when the kittens were 7 weeks old she started declining in health. Losing weight, having bad diarrhea everywhere non stop- even when she'd jump up on a surface she'd leak. She was super hungry and and not gaining weight to match her eating. We reached out to Natalie and asked her for help. I told her the whole story- about the kittens, her health, everything. She said she'd take her and asked if we wanted her back. We said YES. We would take her back. We were worried she had health problems beyond a spay that a vet could help with. My partner was getting out of the military and we were moving to California, so extra expenses werent a thing we could do at the time. She reaffirmed we wanted her back. We met at petco the next day and she had us sign an owner surrender form and was really pushy/aggressive. I asked my partner if we wouldn't still get her back like we said since she said we would. We decided to trust her- mistake 1. After giving her the paper she was yelling loudly about how as far as she's concerned this is life or death and she owns Jenny now and we won't get her back so she doesn't want to hear any complaints about how she took our cat. My partner walked to the cat food aisle sat down and cried. The day of her spay they called us and said the vet said she recently had kittens. I literally told her that three times at this point. Fast forward to Jenny being spayed. She was at petco the same day -June 27. We filled out to adopt her. The next day a rescue she partners with called and said Jenny had kittens recently and Natalie didn't know where they were ??? (I guess she can't read or hear?) I told them we had all four of the kittens, they're all safe and doing well and that we planned to adopt mom cat back since Natalie went back on her saying we could have her back. She said that was great and she was happy they're all safe. She was worried they were strays too and now alone outside without mom cat. She was going to look for them if that was the case. She wished us luck and told me she'd tell Natalie. The next day Natalie called saying she got our application and my partner lied about how much pet rent and pet deposit is and that Jenny's kittens put us over our pet limit anyway. I called back explaining we're moving to California within days, and already broke lease and everything is fine. I also said how much our pet rent and pet deposit is. She said she called the leasing office and it's a 400$ deposit and 250$ a month. I have the actual lease and it's a 200$ deposit and 25$ a month. We did not lie on our application. She then said Jenny had kittens she didn't know about- again ? and that refused to give them to rescue who called for them the day before- which she NEVER called asking for them. Just making sure there weren't stray kittens needing help. She getting out cat back was a hard no. She said if we continued to inquire about Jenny she would call our leasing office and tell them Jenny's kittens are at our apartment and we're over the limit. She kept saying shit like 'you don't want that do you?'. 'I don't care if you're moving' She demanded to know where the kittens would get fixed in California- name of place, the price of fixing them, said I didn't do my research. Asking us how we could do a trip across country with them. Saying the best place for those kittens is surrendered to her. We live on a large farm property and my partners mother manages a veterinarian office and can take our pets in to work with her to get their needs sorted. We managed the trip just fine with all our pets, which included a lot more than the kittens. After she called being a bitch and threatening to call the leasing office she texted acting nice offering a kennel for the kittens. So if you see Jenny at petco with her depression going on- know Natalie lied her way into stealing her. It wasn't life or death like she thought and she didn't do anything with Jenny past spaying her. The only reason we chose cattails to help was because we thought the cat needed more than a simple spay. And Natalie didn't disclose a simple spay and neuter is all they offer. They do nothing else to help or check the animals out. read more

DO NOT ADOPT FROM CATTAILS We adopted a cat from CatTails on April 25, 2026. He is an orange cat who appeared to have some issues with his eye. Before adopting him, we specifically asked Natalie about this, and she told us he was recovering from a cold and had just received his final dose of medication. She also repeatedly encouraged us to contact her directly rather than a veterinarian if any concerns came up. After bringing him home, we prepared a separate space for him and quickly became attached. However, later that evening, he kept having diarrhea, and we observed blood and worms in his stool. Concerned, I reached out to Natalie the following morning (April 26, 2026). She instructed us to meet her at Petco to pick up medication. When my husband arrived, Natalie disclosed for the first time that the cat has feline herpesvirus something she had not mentioned prior to the adoption. She was also aware that we have another cat in the home, which could potentially be exposed. In addition, she advised my husband not to share our experience with others and not to mention the medication she provided. The eye ointment she gave us was clearly used. During this interaction, her comments felt dismissive and unprofessional, including a remark implying that we were inadequate pet owners. "What a home." We are deeply concerned about the lack of transparency regarding our cat's health and the potential risk posed to our other pet. Clear and honest communication is essential when placing animals in new homes, and this experience has been both upsetting and troubling. We are heartbroken. read more

Ok, guys, please read about this unique one of a kind ALL VOLUNTEER organization in Manhattan. Natalie gives her heart, tears, and $$ to help all of the throw away cats in this area, those cats that owners put out without spaying/neutering. Ever wonder where those cats go? They go to MY yard, confused and scared, looking for shelter and food. I have spayed/neutered/vaccinated/microchipped 14 of your cats, and helped (paid for) 5 others. Instead of criticizing this organization, you should be thanking them for their service to this community. Looking for a kitten? Work with Cattails, they will help you find an appropriate cat, but also the shelter. A few years ago the Russell Reitz shelter had an 80% kill rate. My husband and I have tried to adopt cats a few time through cattails located in petco . The lady Natalie told us we couldn't adopt because our dog was not spayed . We got her spayed and came back and reapplied for two other cats we fell in love with and there was a new excuse as to why she didn't want us to adopt. We had to call multiple times just to get an awnser on the applications we put in and the cats were adopted out shortly after to someone else . She was asking questions that were not necessary over the phone with my husband and said she would het back to us. We had a huge run around with this lady . Absolutely terrible. If you want to get a cat do NOT get it through Cattails. Terrible customer service. They will treat you like you are stupid. They truly believe they are experts on cats and know what's best for YOUR own cat. Anywhere else you can buy a cat is 100x better. I walked in to buy some stuff for my cat while he was with my girlfriend in her hands and one of the workers hunted us down from across the store and tried to TAKE our baby from my girlfriends arms because it "needed to be in a crate it was scared". We know our farm cat better than anyone actually and we did not come in the store to be ridiculed. I have grown up with cats for 20+ years and I understand each cat has their own limits, personality, demeanor, etc. I understand cat tails ACTS 'passionate' about their job and cats/taking care of them etc. but they are RUDE. Cattails, Don't ever try to act like you know my cat better than I do. Friends, I am fuming. My roommate's heart strings were tugged by a sweet kitty at PetCo put there by this rescue. So my roommate decided to foster him and no medical warnings were given to her at the time of pickup. He was just thrown in her arms. After putting up with him having explosive diarrhea all over her room for a week and battling the shelter that it was just "stress" she took him to her vet on her own funds. This cat was found to be FIV positive, a highly contagious disease with no known cure. This woman knew we had other cats in our house. She allowed me and my other roommate to bring this foster cat into our home and endanger our sweet babies without any medical warnings. DO NOT ADOPT FROM CAT TAILS -100/10 read more

I have NEVER been talked to so poorly by someone who supposedly cares for/volunteers for the adoption of cats. Natalie is terrible! I have never dealt with a more unpleasant woman!!If you do something she deems irresponsible or wrong, she will berate you and call you names. I rescued a cat that had been injured, and reached out to Cattails for help. She couldn't take the cat, so I found the cat a home and the new owner agreed to spay her as soon as she was healthy enough. Natalie suddenly said she had room for the cat, and was furious with me for finding the cat a home! She called me stupid and irresponsible for giving the cat away before spaying (which was advised against by the vet until she was healthy enough!). Lately, someone has been stealing pets in my town to be neutered, and taking them to Cattails instead of returning them home (which is the whole point of Trap Neuter RELEASE programs). I thought my friends cat was taken, and instead of offering any help, Natalie berated my friend, and said that she deserved not to have animals and she's glad the cat got stolen! Please reconsider or be careful doing anything with Cattails. read more

I had great luck with Cat Tails. Natalie cares a lot about animals. Her priority is getting them out to homes where they'll be cared for. I think some folks see this as problematic, but honestly if detecting incompatibility between cats and owners and preventing adoptees from bouncing back to shelters, getting dumped, or having to be euthanized, she's doing the right thing. Before going in to adopt, ask yourself if you've got the time and resources to provide good care for a cat for up to 20 years. If you say yes, Cat Tails will go out of their way to work with you. We took down a previously extremely negative review about Cattails in the hopes that we would have a better experience in giving them a second chance. It was one of the worst decisions ever made; there is nothing to trust with this foundation and foremost, Natalie! Save yourself the trouble and the pain of dealing with her and her very unhelpful, uninformed volunteers and opt for another rescue or adoption center. Natalie is a venomous, rude, snake of a woman even to those just seeking to adopt. Do not have her help you with anything involving cats for she does not truly care for them. There is no other place to review Cattails and it is truly because she thinks everyone is stupid, yet she does not honestly stand for the right thing. I emailed about a cat the same day he came up on their website Inquiring about filling out an application. All I received back as a response was an application form. I filled it out and emailed it back and heard nothing for around 3 days. I decided to email them checking on if they received my application and got nothing. I then found their number on their website and texted it to check on wether or not they received my application. I finally received a message and the lady responded to let me know they received a lot of applications and would get back to me if they had any questions. The next day I saw on Facebook that she had sold the cat at Petco. I would have appreciated an HONEST answer and response instead of being ignored and having to pry for answers. I do not appreciate being strung along. I would have preferred being told they had already found a home for him. Personally it upset me and hurt my feelings To find out through a post. I wish I had read the other reviews before I got attached to the cat I adopted from Natalie. She told us to call her if we had any problems, and when we did she yelled at us and spoke down to us like we were children. We resolved our problem on our own, but she would not leave us alone after. She made snap judgments and assumed we were terrible people telling us we should feel sorry. She was too attached to the cat we adopted, and told us not to buy a toy for it because she hated that particular toy. It felt like we were babysitting her cat instead of having it be our own. She threatened to come to my apartment to take the cat away twice, but wouldn't respond when I tried to get ahold of her after she said that. In the end of the day we had to give the cat back because it wasn't worth having to deal with Natalie.
