28SEP2017 Got there…read morea bit before 0830 when they supposedly open. The Portuguese woman in front of me in the queue was unhappy that they opened 30 seconds late. I bought COLD sumo da laranja to start the day. 26SEP2017 I know what you are thinking. Four stars for a Minpreço? Yes. 1. Next to the train station. 2. Huge. What? Yes, Huge for a grocery store in a city center. 4 stars for: convenience, selection and prices.

On the way north we stopped here, at this pretty new Continente, to stock up on groceries. Water,…read moremilk, soda, beer, wine, some cheese and ham, bread and household products. We got everything we looked for. Quality and price were - as usual in Continente - very fair. The store is very well organised, clean and has friendly staff. Lots of parking lots outside. There's also a "Bagga" coffee shop, where you can get cheap and good coffees and snacks.

Larger than some of the Pingo Doce convenience stores. One thing I like about the Pingo Doce is…read morethat one can buy individual containers of some items such as yogurt that are normally sold in packs of four. They also have their own house brands of various products. For thirty-something cents one can buy a small container of Pingo Doce red or white wine. (The red is not very good; the white is just very bland, though some of it went into our soup with good effect...) There's lots of wines in the 1 to 2 Euro range, a paradise for a wino, or someone who just wants to try various things to drink. And more expensive wines can be found there too. People don't jam their carts to the brim so one doesn't have to wait as long. Prices really arent much if any higher than at the larger stores.... This store could be better marked - the first time I passed it a block to the west - looking for a place to buy some food, and couldn't see a sign from there. After I knew where it was, I still didn't see a sign till I was right on it.

Best of all, Bruno took the time to educate us about Portuguese wines that are sadly not available in the US. We left happy and we will be back.
