Horribly managed hospital…read more I am an outpatient of this hospital as a sufferer of OCD. I would say this hospital has very poor management, and it is very unfortunate as I am not allowed to transfer to other hospitals thanks to my government's peculiar policies. The hospital is "psychiatric medicine" based hospital. The psychiatrists usually see you for 5 minutes. They don't care about you at all, they just want to put you on medications. they don't even give you instructions on how to take medications and how to manage your symptoms. They give Xanax to everyone casually too. And as studies show, medications are barely helpful in treating mental illness and in many cases are second-line treatment. The first line should always be CBT. Most of the psychiatrists in the hospital are very rude and dismissive. In one incident, I told a psychiatrist I lost 14 kg. It is on the records. She could easily check the medical records. Instead, she kept on saying in an arrogant voice "do you even know how much is 14 kg in pounds?". I told her I felt disrespected, but she warned to "lock me up in a room" as I was angry. So you lock people up because they assert themselves? This is against human rights and definitely abuse. The hospital doesn't have support groups nor adequate psychology service. The average waiting time for psychology service is 1 year and the frequency is 1 hour appointment every 3 months. That isn't effective clinically at all. I believe Hong Kong and the hospital managers really need to adapt an evidence based and humanistic approach to psychiatry. They need to fund research on better management, the most efficient way to treat patients and fund therapy and support groups programs. They need to adapt a clinically proven efficient medicine model, including funding CBT, mindfulness, ACT, DBT based therapy for people. it's such a shame that I asked the social worker in the hospital for help, as the government pamphlet said "the social workers want to provide the best service". No, she told me she was busy, and no they won't help me financially to get therapy outside the hospital, she was very rude. Hong Kong is an "international city" and I am sorry that the psychiatry field is shockingly backwards. I wonder do they even get funds? Where did the funds go?
