Some of the classrooms are in the same funky 1970s buildings, but the art/design classroom has updated computers and huge monitors. The library building has cool architecture and a vast seating area with computers. The online registration process is challenging (you need a Master's degree to figure it out), but after an hour and a call to the helpline which confirmed that the error glitch would require me to re-input all my data again, I was able to register. The open hours for the store and registration are tricky too, so check online before venturing over. The teachers are as cool as I remembered them, so it has been rather fun revisiting some of my college memories. I even find parking spots on Loma Vista like I used to, and they will still ticket you in the permit parking lots too.

I called the main hub and told the receptionist that I applied to a full time office role at VC. I clarified that I did not apply at a job fair. I applied online. After 3 phone transfers(after stating clearly what I applied to) I finally got to HR. I offered to provide the job ID to the agent who declined. He then explained that the full time job I applied to does not exist. Why was it posted then?Im hesitant to know which job openings at VC are "real" and which ones arent.

The school district pumps up their dual immersion programs and makes them sound great, yet they fail to work with the parents to best support their students in the process. Research shows the importance of parents being involved in their child's education process but this feels nearly impossible when you cannot get answers from VUSD in doing your part. It almost appears as if the school district is trying to create a gap between the child and parent so they can be the only ones infiltrating their young minds. Where are the equal services being offered to the SSL parents who are trying their best to provide the best education opportunity for their child? These services are readily available to the ESL. So, my child is losing out because she is SSL or her mom only speaks English...What? We chose our daughters school based on the support they said they had for SSL parents and it's not there. Bottom line, if you are enrolling your child in a dual immersion program and will need to rely on the services they say are offered, don't count on it. I have called the district multiple times and been passed around with no answers but told to leave a message for someone who doesn't call back, I have spoken with the superIntendent at a back to school night who says he will research details of a program that the district said they offer and still never heard back and I have also talked with my child's school. At this point, where do I go? I want the best opportunity for my child possible! I want her to have the same opportunity being provided to other children!

The resources provided in her program (medical assisting) we're not sound pedagogically, not androgogically. It is a very self paced program with little scaffolding. I could not get ahold 9f the placement person to ask about internships and job placement. There were very few students in the building during the two weeks of her trial. Did theyattend 8n the morning or did few come? The website is not very descriptive and cites 100% placement rate. That seems unlikely, tho I suppose possible. It does cost much less to attend this program than other local for-profit medical assisting programs, but I think you need to be a much more sophisticated learner than most high school grads without work or life experience. ((I find it truly abhorrent to charge as much as these programs do to enter a relatively low-paying occupation. There is a two week trial period, which is good. Unfortunately, when it looked like my mentee was going to struggle with the pace of the program, they just wrote her off and told her not to return until they contacted her and have not done so for over two months since then. To be fair, I'm going by her side of things ,but I have no reason to believe she misrepresented her experience with me. I was very disappointed for her.

There is no way I'd have gotten this job without the knowledge of the two excellent instructors in the class, Scott and Dennis, who have a wealth of experience when it comes to AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Revitt. My favorite aspect of the school is that you're treated like an adult. I'm in my mid-30's and haven't attended classes of any sort since my early 20's as I'm not a fan of the 'typical' classroom environment. Here you're treated respectfully and with and understanding that there are other things going on in your life while you're attending class practically full time(M-F, 8-4). It's a professional environment without feeling stuffy. I've been in the work force for 15+ years and the school is a nice proxy for what a working environment might feel like. Another great aspect of this school is that they want you to get a job and will fall over themselves to help you get there. I think I interview very well and have good resume making skills, but the experts at the school who help you when you're in the final stretch with these things were immensely helpful in making me feel prepared for the interviews I went to. I've heard other graduates say the same. All the staff here are very supportive and if you're looking for a fresh start and a new career, I really can't recommend VACE enough. it was a life changing positive experience for me and I'm sure it will be for you too.

Sending a first child off to school is of course an anxious moment for any parent and I admit I was no exception. But my anxiety was quickly relieved; the staff, teachers and principal at Lincoln have been tremendously friendly and welcoming. Perhaps my favorite aspect of Lincoln is that it is a relatively small school. Within a short time after starting school, my daughter was known not only to her own teacher, but also to the other teachers on campus and even the principal greets my daughter by name as we arrive in the morning. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and Lincoln is a part of that village. It truly has a cooperative, community feel to it. I find this a refreshing contrast to larger schools where children can get lost in the crowd. Lincoln is also blessed with caring staff, a fantastic principal, and an excellent and hard working PTA. Does the PTA fund raise too frequently? Yeah, probably. I admit it got a bit tiring. But after seeing the benefits of not only ART, but also MUSIC, PE and a full time on-site nurse, I really came to appreciate the "extras" that are provided far beyond basic education. All of these extra programs come about though the tremendous efforts of the PTA. Next year I plan to be more involved in the PTA and hope that by helping out we can make the fund raising more effective and less frequent. In closing, I want to say "thanks" to all of those who clearly pour their heart and soul into the children at Lincoln. It is much appreciated.

Since governments cut education funding, things like the Lap-A-Thon are a great way to promote community-building and get extra money for school programs. Neither the PTA nor the teachers at Lincoln have demanded or even asked me to have my child participate in door-to-door fundraising. The school also places strong focus on art and does not seem to have overbearing attitudes about homework or learning in general. It has a "comfy" and "laid back" feel that kids will enjoy. I've not once had my daughter complain about anything regarding other students or teachers. And the school plays are great!
