We live an easy walk to the new location on the corner of John Rolfe and Ridgefield Parkway. Today we wanted to pick up lunch for our family since we all are home and working from home. I ordered a medium family meal which comes with 2lbs of meat, four pints of sides and either cornbread or potato rolls for sandwiches. We ended up getting 1 pound of pulled chicken, 1 pound of pulled pork, two pints of Mac and cheese because it's that good, potato salad and the southwest Cole slaw. We also got the rolls for sandwiches, Swayze sauce and the house sauce. For kicks we added a pound of rope sausage. So much food and so tasty! I've had all of their meats now and enjoy them all. The sides are also exceptional. My husband and I said we want to come and just have a meal there soon. I want to try their tacos. Anyway, we're lucky to have such good food right in our neighborhood. Ukrop's is back! With wonderful food! How could it be other?…read more This week (April 11-12) the Ukrop's Food Truck was parked at the Arthur Ashe Center on N. Boulevard. I stopped in to try what has been in short supply since 2010. New menu, featuring the Slidini, defined as "A bread roll, smaller than a full-sized sandwich bun, that contains sandwich filling(s) and that is intended to be grilled." Clearly a portmanteau of SLIDer and panINI. I tried two, the Meatloaf & Triple Mac Slidini, and the Caprese (Vegetarian) Slidini. At $3 each, both were very good, and worth repeating. In addition, I ordered a cup of Macaroni Salad, $2. Other Slidini variants were Chipotle Barbecue (Ukrop's pulled pork barbecue, pepperjack cheese, fresh tomato, fresh avocado aioli) and London Broil Special (Ukrop's London broil, sharp cheddar cheese, Ukrop's special sauce.) The full transaction took a mere 5-10 minutes, then I was on my way home. At home, I ate everything cold. I suspect the Slidinis could have stood 30 seconds in the microwave, but they were quite good as they were. Super clean Food Truck (at least what I could see) and very friendly personnel. I have every intention of checking their schedule and eating their fare again.

Kaylyn made the planning process easy, helping us to develop a staffing plan to help with the set-up of our venue (The Workshop by T&D, which was also great). Groovin staff came the day before to set up ceremony chairs and then immediately after the ceremony efficiently moved all the chairs to the other side of the venue for dinner. They helped us coordinate rentals with Party Perfect and had all the right answers (and questions) during our on-site venue walkthrough. As for the food itself, everything was delicious! People always tell you that you won't eat at your own wedding, but the food was so good that we sat and ate our entire plates. Guests raved and two friends told us that they even came up with targeted strategies to chase down their favorite hors d'oeuvre when they came out. I think he used to have an actual restaurant, but now he just focuses on catering- corporate events, weddings, etc. He was at the market making sandwiches (which looked awesome, he was sneaking me pieces of proscuitto and arugula while he was making the sandwiches, and it was delicious!) and he had a few risotto balls and scotch bonnets ... I had never had a scotch bonnet so I tried it- turns out its a giant ball of sausage with a whole egg inside it! The sausage was really flavorful (homemade from what I could tell), though the egg was hardboiled inside and I like'um soft-boiled (although I am sure they are supposed to be hard-boiled) since they are sitting inside a sausage ball... but overall very tasty. So, would I talk to Mr. DeFazio if I had an event I needed catered? Yup. Will I visit his stand next time I am at the farmers market? Oh absolutely. I'll be the small woman ordering half a dozen sandwiches to bring home...

Too bad because the food was previously pretty good and somewhat reasonably priced. But I will not patronize dishonesty and disrespect. Not worth the higher prices and attitude.
