Besides, I'm trying to write 100 reviews in 2013 :-) First: where. In CoCo, there are two spots I know of, the Lafayette BART parking lot and the side of the Orinda theater (my preferred spot). I don't know about pickup spots in SF to ride home. In Marin, you can pick up a ride at the Park-n-Ride in Mill Valley. Second: economics. It saves money (BART ticket or bridge toll/gas) and time (a few minutes if you're BARTing, half an hour if you're driving). Just get three perfect strangers into a car and off you go, afflicted with carpool tunnel syndrome. Three: riders. You probably won't meet your special someone in casual carpool; you probably won't even say anything besides "hi" or "Front and Pine". Or maybe you will. One salesperson exchanged business cards to get contacts for her business. It can turn into a good social event to wake you up better than coffee does. My memorable experiences: (1) The poor man with a small pickup who just couldn't get anyone to ride with him. (2) The lady driving a convertible with the top down. As we were getting onto 24, she started to put the top up, and the other passenger and I said "No, leave it down!" It was perfect weather on the Bay Bridge, therefore my most memorable commute ever. (3) I had to drive into The City for a few months, so I was the driver this time. 98.6% of the time, drivers play KCBS (traffic report), but I played either Phil Keaggy or Randy Stonehill. Once, the lady riding shotgun commented positively on Stonehill's music. We talked for a while, turns out she was a regular at St. Patrick's Church. We didn't keep in touch, but that was a good ride for both of us. It won't work for many people, and others get skittish about riding with strangers, but it's worth a try if you're adventurous.

Ever since Caltrans created the carpool/diamond lane, drivers who do not wish to pay full price of the toll/ bypass traffic can have a total of 3 or more people in their vehicle as FASTRAK will charge $2.50 vs $6.00 during the weekdays. There are several locations ie: Hercules, Rodeo, Vallejo, Fairfield, El Cerrito, Oakland, Emeryville, Concord, Alameda, Berkeley etc.. As for being a share rider depending on location, it is common courtesy to pay the driver $1.25. There is one location for drop off at 1st & Fremont st, and one location for a ride back which is on Beale & Howard St. It's been 12yrs since I've been commuting into San Francisco and I'm glad casual carpool has been a back up for me, just in case if I can't find a ride. I've saved $$$ by commuting this way-beats taking the bus and paying for bart. I know riding with strangers can be weird, but is totally safe. Ps. you are not obligated to talk!

Just like yesterday and the day before that, last week and last month, day after day, back and forth, south to work, north back home, all and everything we've invested (our time mostly) seems to shine at this moment, while we're waiting in line for our car. It's a different car every day. We never know who it's going to be, we just hope it's soon. It's as if we just found out that we've won the lottery when we are finally the first in line and a big car pulls up. But we don't care if we have to sit in the back of a hatchback - We are only thinking about getting home. No one wants the big guy in mirrored shades driving the ol' red Ford pick up. He comes rolling up to our sad curb and the first few ladies shrug him off down the line. Edgar eventually shuffles up and into the rig, and off he goes towards I-80, clicking in for the diamond lane. As he departs, he might stare down at those of us remaining in line with a sigh of satisfaction; we are now inferior to him who is now the passenger. I used Casual Carpool for 3 years and never said a word to any one of you. We rarely made eye contact. I spilled my coffee on one lady by accident. I apologized profusely - She wiped it off listlessly and dragged her body a couple steps forward to catch up with the moving line of people. To bide our time in line, we would listen to music, read a book, connect with someone in the real world via cell phone, stare up at the buildings and imagine a hot sexual happening on the 17th floor, or find the farthest point on the horizon and just stare. I read more books during these three years than any other time in my life. On some rides, I would help the driver stay awake by listening to anecdotes that have probably been told time and time again on those busy drives that seem to stretch out through time. If you're not in the front with the driver, you're the lucky one in the backseat: Your home for the hour-and-a-half-or-so it takes to get to that Greyhound parking lot on Lemon Street in Vallejo, California.

So here goes again: For my daughters 21st birthday I wanted to surprise her with a limo providing I could find a decent deal. After many online inquiries for quotes, I exchanged emails with Lynette Young of Excel Limousine. Unlike all the other quotes I received, the price I was quoted did not change when we eventually spoke by telephone. I was offered an inclusive rate that covered everything. After doing a bit of research I quickly realized this was a great deal!! I was surprised further when confirming the rate with Lynette, she reduced it further. Unlike the other company's I spoke too, Lynette disclosed the terms and fees of the contract including the charge for "vomit". She likes her customers to know that the company charges $450 for ANY person that vomits in the car. Refusing to sign the contract forfeits any deposit and rental fees agreed upon. Later the driver disclosed the same information prior to my signing the contract. I appreciated knowing this ahead of time. The day of our rental I received a text message with the drivers name and cell phone number. It was nice to greet him by name. The 8 passenger black on black Lincoln arrived on time and was just as clean as you can get. Inside the car the usual cocktail napkins had been replaced with some cute and festive birthday napkins. They also included party blowers, candy, and a special crown for the Birthday girl. None of these details had been previously discussed so they truly exceeded my expectations. The drivers name was Norm, and he was dressed to the Nines. Norm was a polite and mild mannered gentleman who treated us with the utmost professionalism. He had all of the address locations prior to picking us up so not a minute was wasted in communicating our intended destination. When we were ready to move on to the next location I just rang his cell phone and he arrived within the time he said he would. On our way home, my daughter looked as though she might throw up and I asked Norm if he could pull off the highway as soon as possible. I had not forgotten the $450 vomit fee!! Norm handed me a bucket through the window and promptly excited the freeway. I realize that he did not have to provide a bucket and could have collected a quick $450, so once again this went above what I had expected. We arrived back home on time and vomit free!! Even though I had paid the gratuity in the total cost of the rental amount, I handed Norm an additional $50 because he provided excellent customer service and I truly appreciated all of the extra's. I will rent from this company again and will highly recommend them to my friends and family. I would argue they are the best bang for your buck place, some other places will say they will charge less but then add fees later on on your tab, but excel is the cheapest and most reliable company I have found. They have been in business a long time but this is the first time I have seen them on yelp. Note: Make sure you call this company, there is only one location but there are other companies that are not Excel but use their name because of their good reputation and many clients.

Both then involved me taking Muni back to Civic Center. But now, I'll wait an extra 30 minutes if I have to and read my book, just to catch this shuttle, which after a stop at the French Campus takes me directly to Civic Center. The drivers are nice, the ride's not bumpy and generally it's not too full. It also takes about half the time than doing it any other way. I wish I could figure out where it picks up, but simply even having it drop me off is a godsend when I've had blood taken and don't want to deal with the hell that is Muni. I love the free shuttle :)

Oakland's Web site has quite good info about their shuttles, but San Francisco's site? Nothing. Get a clue, kp.org. We expect better.
