The location is fantastic, it's pretty reasonably priced, and it's quite comfortable. The bed is a four-poster queen, and there were rather a lot of pillows. There's also a table at which two can sit, a love seat, and some other quaint furniture, as well as a kitchen sink, refrigerator and microwave. The room was clean and neat, with no untoward smells. There was quite a bit of Verbena-scented soap in the bathroom. The decor is pretty standard Victorian San Francisco, with wainscoting and a lovely big shower/tub in the bathroom. There's WiFi, with a pretty decently fast connection. There's a porch to sit on, facing the backyard. There's no breakfast service, but there's coffee and tea, and a toaster. I tend to be a pretty shy guest at B&B's, and Annie's was ideal for me in this sense - she left me alone, other than settling up the bill, and she didn't even hassle me about that - we just figured out a time. There are some excellent restaurants near here on Hyde - Za, Frascati, Tre Fratelli, Milano and U-Lee come to mind. Polk is the big local business district, and there are quite a few more restaurants down there. Parking here is no fun. But on the plus side, you can take the cable car, which runs along Hyde Street. If you need to walk down to Polk Street, be aware that the most direct path down the hill is pretty steep. If your knees are weak, you might want to hang a left on Hyde, and follow it down to Broadway, then continue downhill on Broadway to Polk.

Unfortunately, people do age and eventually pass. I don't think that either of them has passed, but from what I heard, there was a sudden medical issue and they're not coming back. I hope that the new ownership can get it together and bring back this amazing place to continue as a gem of a place to stay in SF, but... not holding my breath. :-(

You should never pay in full over the phone and pay more fees when you get there that are NOT refundable deposits. Ridiculous. Ended up spending an extra nights worth of amenities fees. Next, the amenities were an absolute joke. Stale pastries, and they were not even willing to ask their "chef" about life-threatening allergies. Turns out, I saw the bagel delivery box in the morning and there is no chef. Found pubes that were bundled from a razor left in our shower and i emailed management once that was my last straw. I asked how we can come to a solution regarding the fees, this sanitation, and the allergies. I never heard a conclusion to anything. We got a phone call asking if we wanted to move rooms. We didn't want to since we unpacked. But I'm sure they made us move to spare a review like this. They left a bottle of champagne in the new room as an apology, which was great, but I asked for a solution, not a bandage to the problem. We have stayed at everywhere from Best Western to the Ritz and this was worse than some of the best westerns we've been to. When we checked out, they said "was that a better room with a nicer view?" Why on earth would a nice view be the reason we have a good time at a hotel? What happened to sanitation and inclusivity and respect. No thanks.

We stayed for one night this month, after the Spiritbox show at the nearby (two blocks, uphill) Masonic. Our room was spacious, with a queen bed far more comfortable than most hotels I've stayed at, closet with robes (that was a first for me), fireplace, tv, chairs, coffee table, and desk. I liked the bathroom and shower. Better water pressure than I get at home, go figure. I even tried the pump shampoo and body wash attached to the wall because the smelled so yummy, and found them to be good quality too. Usually I don't really mess with complimentary toiletries because I have sensitive skin and a whole routine for my curls, but I took a risk and it paid off. Ambiance was everything. It felt like a Bed & Breakfast in the Scottish Highlands. Furniture well-loved, clean but cozy as opposed to sterile, old-fashioned fixtures, funky pink and teal hexagonal carpet that looked like tile at first glance, wall clocks, floral wallpaper, embroidery...all the little bits and bobs made me feel right at home. Our experiences with the staff here were lovely, and there were no issues during our stay at all. We found the hotel quiet, and the walls and windows well-suited to block out the city noises. The only thing I would have liked to have would be a screen on the window by the bed so I could enjoy the nice cold San Francisco air without worrying about nasty bugs flying in. I really loved staying here, and as I said, I would absolutely come back if I could afford it. They offer complimentary breakfast, but I only had a coffee and maple donut brought to me by my love, so cannot comment on the items offered or the breakfast nook downstairs. Be sure to try the cool retro elevator with metal screen. You have to press the button for a few 1000s and wait patiently for it to arrive, but arrive it will. I was def not pretending I was on the Titanic. They have valet parking available, but as we left the car at a Bart station outside the city to save us the $ and hassle, can't comment on the price of that either. It is a pretty straight shot walking from here to the Powell Bart station, downhill. On the way here from the Bart I would recommend a bus or the cable car ($8 one way) uphill if you don't want to go all the way uphill.

Quite uncomfortable. Windows were very hard to open. After much effort realized no screens on windows. Shame as wanted to keep them open during the day to ventilate the room due to poor odors. Was very cold in the room due to poor insulation and cracks around the windows letting in wind draft. Heater did not work. Fireplace was just for show and provided not enough heat to be comfortable. Wall are so thin you can hear neighbors' morning alarms through the walls, as well as talking in the lobby and people having breakfast downstairs. Can hear loud footsteps upstairs from neighbors coming back late at night 11pm and beyond! Could not sleep until they did, which would be after midnight. Quite disruptive considering planned to wake up early and start my day. Conclusion: Do not recommend this place unless you like the lack of basic comforts and like noise and disruptions. After a long but enjoyable day in the city, I would dread going back to my room due to the noise and disruptions. We talked to the front desk on a few occasions about these issues with no avail. Not acceptable especially given how much I paid. Overall displeased. Will not be coming back and looking for a better alternative nearby.

So it's unpredictable if my stay would be relaxing or nerve racking. The room for 3 was a good size with a large bathroom, large windows of street view, and sizable writing desk, and arm chair. I got to use the gym once and it had all the general equipment and fairly large room. It was a nice, spacious room.... But we ended up being disappointed. The location is within walking distance to the Lombard Street (enjoy walking up that hill! ), the Wharf, and Pier 39. The room was clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and professional. If you value your sleep though and want to stay at the Argonaut, be sure to request a room that does not have windows to a street (see my attached video). Every night we were woken to the sound of cars and motorcycles. Saturday night was the worse! It was so ridiculous we could only laugh. Our windows were literally rattling!!! The noise from the streets is loud to a ridiculous level. We could literally Soundhound/Shazam songs from cars outside!!! Obviously this is not the hotels fault but they charge a ridiculous price for a room with that much noise. And for $900 a night, you'd think they would have a real coffee machine in the room. There was only an instant espresso machine that poured a pathetic cup of coffee. Yes - coffee is available in the lobby but for this kind of money, we shouldn't have to drag our asses downstairs, after getting no sleep, for a cup of coffee.
