I brought an older lawnboy to Gruel Bros on main street in Crown Point. The engine froze up and wouldn't start. I decided to go in and check on it because they had it for two weeks and hadnt called yet. They said "Bad news man, you are going to need a new mower. The engine seized." He rolled it out and showed me the dip stick. Well the oil was barely touching the dipstick but wasnt completely bone dry like they said. I took it home, pulled the plug and put about two table spoons of oil right into the cylinder. With the plug still out, I turned the blade, which turned extremely easily considering other engines I repaired long ago, were a little stiffer at first. I filled it with fresh 30 weight oil and put the plug in. The rope pulled with ease. I Primed it and the engine started like new on the second pull. The sign in front of Gruel Bros says they repair lawn boys. Buyer beware when you buy something from them or have something repaired there. Their service dept is terrible and they appear to have rather sold a new mower to me then fixed mine in the 10 minutes it took me to fix it. The crazy part is they were the last to service mine last year and this was the first time I used it this year so I may have had 5 cut jobs on a small lot I use it for. It really never ran properly after the first time i brought it in but i figured they would repair the issue from the last visit. The rpms were not high enough and the engine putted instead of running at a higher rpm. That is a simple fix too. Moral of the story... do not bring anything to them, do not buy their used machines and stay away from their new stuff because one day they may have to service it for you. My father used to say you can't fix stupid!

They never bothered to check to see if the wheels worked. And their attitude stinks. Yea they are old school. But I thought old school was suppose to be better then new school. The worse part is if you're a brand new customer. Which I was. Because they expect you to know things without being told. For example, I called after they had it for a week or more to inquire about the status. They barked that they hadn't gotten to it yet and would call when they did. Like ok, dude! Just checking up. Gruel - just do better!

One thing I think they REALLY should consider is to add some type of way to contact an employee if you are busy washing your dog. One time, the tub was backed up with hair in the drain. I had to take my long haired dog, sopping wet, out of the tub, take out the heavy drain mat and pull all the hair out. It was a mess. I'm 70 years old. LOL OH and one more thing, I checked the air intake on the dryer, it had inches of hair all stuck to it. That will burn it out. Remind the employees that clean up to check the dryers for that.

I contacted Hubinger in the hope he would be educated and warned by Hubinger that this is unacceptable and in the hope that they did not tolerate or condone hateful, homophobic behavior in their employees. I was contacted by Hubinger who apologized for their employee's behavior and promised to address this situation. I was glad to see a company taking this seriously. It may seem a small thing, but this kind of behavior, multiplied over and over again, creates an unsafe community for LGBT people and contributes to an epidemic of depression and suicide.
