I was summonsed for a criminal driving matter to go to the Magistrates Court. I was told upfront that it was not imprisonable and therefore I would not be eligible for legal aid. I'm a newly trained teacher and couldn't afford the sums that the big firms charge. A friend told me to try Mortons Solicitors who are near to where I live. They were half the price I had been quoted elsewhere and were prepared to agree to pay in installments ahead of the trial. A driving licence is essential for my work as I live 10 miles from where I work in a school in a rural area where there is no public transport. Mortons made the whole court thing as painless as possible. I got 6 penalty points in the end to add to my previous 5. I'm lucky that the court imposed the minimum otherwise I would have lost my licence. Mortons argued that it would be unfair for me to lose my licence over this. Onward and upwards I go.
