I'm probably one of the few people to go to Castle Bingo and leave with a Potted Plant. No shouting…read moreof the word HOUSE. No pound signs in my eyes - just a potted rose plant. I feel this perfectly justifies why myself and my family only go once a year (to celebrate my Nan's birthday). We all arrive having already spent the money we never seem to win! Yet at just £14 you can't complain - It makes for such a fun family night out. BINGO BASICS: If you haven't visited Castle Bingo before, joining is free! Fill out the simple form behind reception and you'll receive your temporary card. *Keep hold of this as if you win you need this to claim any winnings. Purchase your Bingo Books from the Booksales Department before taking a seat. You'll then have your first instalment of Bingo around 6.30pm! *Remember to concentrate as all you will ALWAYS have the number called, it's just the placement that varies and determines the winners. Numbers are written in columns. Single digits in the first, tens in the next then twenties and so on... If you win, jump on the table and swing your top around your head - Okay not really. Shout HOUSE, BINGO or raise your hand in the air. A member of staff will then check your claim and bring you your prize. GOOD LUCK! PS - It's ridiculously cheap to drink and eat here. For only £4.50 you can have a main meal, hot or cold drink AND a dessert!

This is, as most of u already know, not really a young person's kind of scene. But despite this, if you go along with the right attitude (slightly crazed) and the right group of people (slightly crazed), then you're guaranteed a night you'll remember. According to their website, this Castle Bingo in Canton was the UK's first ever purpose built bingo hall, and it shows. This building, both inside and outside, has started to become a little bit shabby, but nothing that a clean down and a spruce of new paint wouldn't be able to tackle. Inside the hall it all feels decidedly 90's. Phoenix Nights and other such images spring to mind, as well as caravan holidays in Cornwall. But there is something annoyingly addictive and competitive about bingo. And still I manage to enjoy it every time.

A lovely looking building from the outside in the night it really is very pretty! Inside it's you usual bingo hall, a bit retro, a lot of rinses and a lot of menopausal women fanning themselves with their card. Food and drink are stupidly cheap, i had curry, rice and chips for something like £1.50. This is an extremely good girls night out whatever your age and the game itself is slightly compelling. Although your cards are not that reasonable, prizes are pretty good and even if you loose yo get that warmish, happy glow that i imagine athletes get. Not sporty myself, it was nice to actually take part in something. Go on mun....

Castle Bingo on Newport Road is, arguably, the flagship bingo hall for our fair city. Nestled in…read morejust off the main road, tucked behind a petrol station, the building looms up in front of you, all glinting metal and reflective glass. I'll be honest. It looks like something out of Orwell's 1984. Simultaneously terrifying and impressive, and the carpet matches the drapes. The place is massive. It looks like they've tried to recreate that Las Vegas casino experience, where you enter the grand double doors and are greeted with the sight of pure affluence, ground down into its component molecules and then dusted across every surface you can see, but only had a modicum of the budget. And they've actually managed to do pretty well for themselves. They have a wide selection of games and slots to whittle away the hours of the day with, with constant offers and special games going on around you. And it's my nan's favourite place; that's high praise. They say you've got to write what you know, which is why four reviews into my Yelp experience, I'm currently on my third bingo hall review. I need a drink.
