We did the 9a-12p morning sail this weekend and it was a fantastic adventure! Our guide, Nick was incredibly knowledgeable about kayaking and the history of the area. He was the perfect guide! We had people of all experiences in our group, and I'm 100% sure that everyone had an enjoyable experience! We'll definitely come back!

Bioluminescent Night Tour

This was my first time kayaking at night and first time kayaking in the ocean. We had an awesome time and the bioluminescence were amazing to see. It looked like stars in the water. Our tour guide was awesome and super knowledgeable. It was raining when we first got there and we were provided with skirt covers for our kayaks to keep our legs dry. A great experience and I would definitely recommend stopping in Castine to experience this bioluminescent bay!

Never do i write a review unless the experience is this overwhelming!!

An unbelievable experience! :) Bioluminescence and Sea Kayaking were both new to us until today but will be memorized as an unforgettable night going forward! We began paddling as the dusk set throwing beautiful sunset hues all over the sky and horizon. As we slowly moved to the dark coves, where the water was pitch dark and we were way away from city lights, sparkles lit up the Sea with every stroke of our paddles! After a while, the cove began to glow with everyone's paddling that jittered the planktons sitting there. And we seldom realized that it was quite dark above us too as the night sky had set with gazillions of stars to gaze! AND dear Lord!! The whole of MilkyWay was staring at us, so bright, gorgeous and we were awestruck!!!! From the binary star in our Big Dipper to Cassiopeia , little dipper, Scorpio end - end, Antares , Hercules and the huge streak of Milkyway was so easily visible. Mars and Saturn were unusually bright! To sum it up it was a bed of stars above and below! I surely recommend this bioluminescence tour at night with Karen and team!!!

This experience was amazing. For the experienced and beginner it was a treat. Karen was a knowledgeable, helpful, hardworking, and kind guide. You could tell she loved what she does. I have only kayaked once so was nervous but you go doubles so it was better. My two daughters said it was an unforgettable experience. We drove 1 hr out of our way to do this and you should too. The stars were so bright and the Milky Way was beautiful. The bioluminecence was like fireflies under water. It was a clear, calm, not too cold (50) night so perfect. Even though it says 630 to 930, by the time you do the prep drill and cleanup at the end, actual water time is 730 to 9. The cool thing Karen does is put the boats together and hosts her own planetarium in the bay as you spin around and hear stories about the constellations. It neat.

Karen also does an excellent job explaining some of the science behind bioluminescence, without getting all scientific.

My partner and I visited the Acadia area for Labor Day weekend - during COVID so no surprise that…read morethe whole world had also descended upon rural Maine that weekend. We hadn't made any reservations for activities ahead of time, so the morning we decided we wanted to paddleboard, I was a bit nervous in case all the businesses in operation were already booked up. I called 10+ places with no luck, then stumbled upon The Activity Shop's number. Turned out to be our lucky day - The Activity Shop is located ~1 hour outside Acadia, so they didn't seem to be inundated with tourists. The owner (I think), Chris, worked with us on the phone to figure out the details of our reservation - and he is one of the nicest people I have ever met. He took the time to explain everything - the best area to paddleboard, when to go to avoid low tide, safety tips, etc. The place he recommended, Blue Hill Harbor, was devoid of other tourists and amazingly gorgeous - we felt like we owned our own slice of paradise. The boards we rented were high-quality. They seem to only offer full-day rentals which can be a bit pricey ($65 per board) but I liked not having the pressure of having to return the boards within a certain amount of time. We played around as long as we wanted and when we were done, we could just leave the boards by the dock and let the Activity Shop know we were done - super easy. Definitely recommend The Activity Shop if you are looking to rent kayaks / canoes / paddleboards near Acadia - a much better experience than the tourist traps in Bar Harbor!

My first interaction with Peter was actually by telephone, accusing him of fake TripAdvisor…read morereviews... turns out, they are NOT FAKE and he is an amazing guy. My wife and I decided to go with him because he was a lot more flexible than his competitors, Old Quarry. First of all, Peter basically catered the tour to our needs. Second of all, his prices were worth the small group attention. Third, Old Quarry has a terrible website and Peter's is great. We have both kayaked before, so we wanted something half-day that would provide a short intro and then get us into some small coves. What we got was wonderful. First, Peter went over sea kayaking safety and the game plan (To be honest, this part needs to be shortened up, but I think that will happen organically as the season progresses). Then, we took the boats down and put into the water at Naskeag Point. We kayaked around and went to Sellers Island for lunch. Peter told us all about the islands and about this cool kayak trail they have where you can camp for free on these small islands. We wandered some more after lunch and started heading back. We asked Peter about his experiences on El Camino - he has some amazing stories! When we got back to his house, he let us shower and stuff before heading to our B&B up the road for dinner. You can book rooms at the house and we would have done this if we'd known about it before we booked our other accommodations. It was really a lovely trip, and we hope to pass through again someday.

We spent the day kayaking with Peter, and it was a wonderful experience for all of us (my husband,…read more11-year-old son, 13-year-old daughter, and me). Peter was so knowledgeable and patient. He did a wonderful job tailoring our experience so that it was the right level for our kids, but was still an exciting adventure for all of us. Penobscot Bay is probably one of the nicest, most beautiful places to sea kayak I can imagine. I am not an expert, but his equipment was top notch, which made the paddling easy and our experience more comfortable. I had been worried that our younger son would lose steam, and he was usually out ahead! I can't recommend Peter enough and we hope we are lucky enough to do another trip with him at some point.

Kayak1 delivered to our doorstep. Because we prepaid via PayPal, we did not have to be at our rental when the kayaks showed up. We got a text saying everything was delivered. The six of us had no real issues in getting around and probably the biggest problem was getting them back up to dry land and they are heavy! Overall, we had a good time using the kayaks and the customer service was top of the line. We would recommend if you're in the area. $130 per tandem kayak for two days. $20 delivery charge. $410 total.
