You can literally see Africa from here on a clear day. It's a romantic spot that'll always be special in my heart. Quiet, bit breezy, a nice break from the action. A place that makes you reflect about the world we live in, with various cultures that meet. There's the lighthouse, big and bright and the beautiful white mosque building with mountains behinds. That's all. And the Mediterranean sea spreading out. It's fascinating and if you'll go in the area, this is a wonderful spot to visit. Unique and beautiful. Sure, it just enticed me some more to visit Morocco, being so close to it, but I'll leave it for some other time. Although, it's calling my name....

The St.Micheals caves are beautiful! The monkeys weren't as scary has I thought they might be. The WW2 tunnels were extensive and very cool to experience. Narrow roadways and drive ways to maneuver plus speak at the same time. Tunnels, imaginary demarcation line which separates Gibraltar and Spain.Something like several million enter each day. Fast check out, no issues, sure the guides who planned the trip knew to get us to Gibraltar early and get us out in early afternoon to avoid the crowds. Painless experience, so refreshing!

It's very easy to find, like everything else in Ronda, just grab a map - a self guided walking tour and follow the main drag. Everything is close by, within walking distance. The bridge is old, beautiful, take a break for a while to take all the details in and the amazing views all around! Roman bridge with some Moorish influences, a great example of Andalusian architecture. Pedestrian only, a wonderful sight!

According to…read moreSpanish touring sites, this version of the bridge was built in the 16thC, however, Wikipedia claims it was built in 1616 (the year of Shakespeare's death). I would tend to go with the Spanish info, dating it to the 1500s. The more famous Puente Nuevo (new bridge) is a "young" 200+ years old. While Puente Nuevo allows vehicular traffic, Puente Viejo is a pedestrian-only bridge. It is accessible from lower points in town, down the hill from the Palacio del Rey Moro, on the old side of the city, and near Iglesia de Padre Jesús on the new side. This bridge has great views, but, IMO, not as dramatic as those from Puente Nuevo. Puente Viejo is in Carlos Saura's film version of Carmen (1983). Los Caños bar, nearby, shows photo stills from the movie. * * * TIP * * * Near the old bridge, there is an entrance to walk the INTERIOR of the city walls, to see these old ramparts from the inside. Ask for more info from your hotel, because this is not of widespread tourist knowledge.

The railway station is in the middle of the city, I took a train to Ronda, but before I was able to walk its streets, explore the great market they have, see the people who inhabit this place, a mix of population, always nice and fascinating. I loved their market, rich in merchandise, smells and local flavors. The streets are cute and charming. Nice views! Algeciras is off the beaten path, but if you are in the area, check it out even for 2 hours, it is so worth it! Very unique!

It was an amazing sight, worth seeing on our journey. I thought the cargoland in my hometown of Philadelphia was crazy, but the acres and acres of warehouses and cargo containers in Algericas is stunning! The Port of Algeciras is one of the largest in Europe and the 25th largest port in the world! Lots of oil imports! They also have passenger ferries for Morocco. The nearby English territory of Gibraltar is visible from many parts of Algericas.
