In addition to price, location is important, but it can be a challenge if you don't know the city. When looking for a hotel for our five night stay, there were many affordable options in good areas of London, but in the end we chose 69 The Grove, a lovely B&B in the Vauxhall area of London, and it was a GREAT decision. 69 The Grove is so-called because the address is 69 Vauxhall Grove. It is in the Vauxhall area, which is just south of the Thames. While a bit further away from all the main attractions in London, it was just a five minute walk to Vauxhall Station, on the Victoria Line, and took just 20 to 30 minutes to get to wherever we needed to go. It was a perfect balance of being in a quiet residential area and having quick and easy access to the busier parts of the city. It was also within walking distance of many restaurants, parks, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Lambeth Bridge, and other attractions. I absolutely loved the area. The price of our five night stay was $1,205.35 CAD (including all taxes), and a full English breakfast is included each morning, Monday to Saturday -- an excellent value. While the room was small, it had everything we needed -- a private bathroom, comfy bed, a mini fridge and kettle, and it was clean and quiet. If my budget allows, I want to make another trip to London, and I hope 69 The Grove is still in operation. It was such a pleasant place to stay, and I would not hesitate to go back. I highly recommend 69 The Grove. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England; Hotels]

Her first visit was in 1985 (same owners then too) she was back in 2005 and again with me in 2011. The owner was in for breakfast one day and was delighted to hear the story. He said the most loyal guest had visited from the age of 5 to 90. Here are reasons pertinent to choosing the Harlingford yourself: * It's affordable and pleasant. * It's a short bus or tube ride or a moderate walk from Soho/Leicester Square Theatre * It's a short walk to a couple of tube nexuses where you can jump on nearly any train line * It's close to attractions like the British Museum The hotel is a two-star hotel and will be a different experience than a Hilton or W Hotel. However the price offsets this difference as you're saving £100-200 per night! The free full English breakfast can give you a substantial and quick start to your day. If you are addicted to Starbucks there are two within two blocks. There are several nearby dining spots including an Indian restaurant named Depa and a city-class fish shop named North Sea Fish Restaurant. My hope is that travelers find this post when looking for affordable lodging in London. Please send me a Yelp compliment to let me know if this review helped you book a place to stay in London. Seven Dials Hotel - My room 4. Floor

The rooms seem to be recent ensuite conversions. Access to our room, #37 on the fourth floor (450…read morepounds for 3 nights), was down a dark hallway where you had to take an extra step past the door before a motion sensor turned on the hall light so you could guide the key into the lockset. I don't know if our room was typical but we two seniors found it to be uncomfortably small. What used to be a shallow closet is now a shallow bathroom, the closet now is just four hooks on the wall in the entryway. The remainder of the room is an 8 x 8-foot cubicle with bare walls and bare wood floor. Furnishings included a small double bed in the corner shoved up against the old radiator, a bare wooden chair that was little more than a small stool, and a desk with three drawers that impeded access to the bathroom, so much so that it had no hinged door. Instead, there is a sliding door that you must side step past to get between it and a refrigerator that stuck out beneath the desk where the chair ought to be. There is one Type-G outlet above the desk, two if you unplug the fridge. Curiously, there was no toilet paper holder in the bathroom so be sure the loose roll is within reach before you squeeze between the toilet and pedestal sink. Alas, the narrow bed is a corner bed so only one of you will enjoy easy in and out access. There is a big window that lets in lots of air but you must stand on the bed to reach the horizontal pull bar at the top with its built-in shade. There is a hair dryer, an electric teapot, and an AC wall unit. There is also a TV but all you're going to do in this room is sleep and shower. Cramped space aside, the room is clean, secure, and its central location can't be beat. The Covent Garden tube station on the Piccadilly line and the Tottenham Court Road station on the Elizabeth, Northern, and Central lines are both less than a quarter mile away. We took the Elizabeth line in from Heathrow and had no problem pushing our spinners through St. Giles square and the Shaftesbury neighborhood to reach the front door. Check-in is 3 pm but early arrivals are welcome to leave their luggage inside by the new elevator. If I was younger I would have given it four stars.

Enjoyed the stay immensely and the only thing I regret is not being able to stay longer... Oh, and one more thing - absolutely fantastic home-made muffins we got with a breakfast - baked in the morning, still warm when we came down ! It turned out to be just what I had hoped to find, charmingly unpretentious, run by a warm and friendly couple of guys who were helpful in every way, from picking me up at the train station to helping me work out transportation to and from the performances and for my travel back (I decided to stay on 2 days after the operas, to get in a bit of local sightseeing and they were helpful there too) . The food was simple and tasty, and they made an effort to please individual tastes and needs. The room was simple and comfortable, with a charming view from the window of the downs, and the bed just great. No great chandeliers and snootiness, just friendliness, helpfulness and calm, exactly what I was looking for. I certainly will go back if my good fortune takes me back to that part of the world
