We enjoyed a typical Italian meal (i.e. 2+ hours) during a long weekend in Brenzone sul Garda, one of many picturesque towns on the lake, just a few minutes up the road from Umberto's. We started with the Gran Frito Misto. Even though it was listed in the menu as a secondi, our waiter humored us and let us have it as an antipasti. The assortment of fried seafood and veggies was delish! I loved the calamari and shrimp. Even the sardines weren't bad! After that, we moved on to antipasti and secondi. My sister and I ordered the lasagne because it's a minimum 2 person dish. My hubby ordered the steak because... well... men like red meat? Y'all. I need to wax poetic about this lasagna for a minute. It was super creamy, bubbly and hot. Layers and layers of fresh noodles with a savory meat ragu sauce on top and prosciutto cotto and mushrooms sprinkled throughout. All served in a GIANT cauldron, easily enough for four people even though it was billed as a two person dish. The steak was good, too. And, we also enjoyed the sautéed potatoes. But seriously. Get. The. Lasagna. If you are still reading at this point (why aren't you on your way to Lake Garda for the lasagna?!), I suppose my last anecdote is that the house red wine was delicious.

The weather was lovely and views awesome. The food service was quick. Two entree's bottle of local wine, and dessert for less than 50 euros. This was frankly one of the better meals (among many excellent ones) we had in the Milan area, and one of the least expensive. This is a must stop if you are exploring the upper city!

We came here around siesta time, so when we finished eating, we've realised that no one else is here, not counting us, an owner lady and some really old people reading newspapers. And we still felt welcomed! Interior is really comfy - dark wooden tables and chairs, big bar, where you can drink your espresso and leave, newspapers, old wine bottles, some photos on the walls and a lot of people. True Italian vibes. Menu is in Italian or English. They have variety of Italian goods here - pasta, pizza, main dishes, everything is really tasty and in good prices! We've decided to take a fixed menu for, as I recall, 14 euros, with pasta, main dish and a wine/coffee and water. I don't remember what we ordered exactly but I think I've had something similar to ravioli with ragu and bacon, ahhhhhhh, amazing!!! Main dish was simply big amount of meat with fries or mashed potatoes, nothing too crazy, but tasty as well. Wine - omnomnom. Food is damn good and the whole place is so cute. One of the old guys smiled at me and said "cin cin" when I was drinking my wine. The owner of this place, nice lady, was speaking only Italian, but we somehow managed to talk with her - Italian gestures, "molto bene" and "perfetto" were enough to communicate and leave big smiles on our faces. Grazie mille!

It was sufficiently warm, on the late April evening we dined here, to sit at one of the tables outside, amongst the leafy greenery. My companion had been eating here since he was a child. Unsurprisingly, we were greeted and welcomed warmly. The menu has a good selection of local dishes, meat, pasta, fish and salads. I was persuaded (cajoled) away from my preferred choices by my expert companion who was insistent that I experienced a local dish (other than him, of course). So I was nudged in the direction of Bigoli Bottarga (homemade pasta 'noodles' topped with shavings of dried tuna caviar). It was a pretty potent plate - too powerfully fishy, if I'm honest - but that was the nature of it, rather than the fault of the chef. We enjoyed generous glasses of the full-bodied, locally-produced Franciacorta red wine - delizioso - to accompany our food. Service was friendly, very efficient and always smiling. The atmosphere was authentic and lively but not intrusively loud. Inside, the restaurant is appealingly styled with attractive and evocatively colourful iron advertising images, displayed on the walls. I didn't anticipate, or enjoy my visit to the loo though, which took me by surprise in contrast with its setting - be warned, ladies, it was a traditional hole-in-the ground
