South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station - South Coast Recycling & Transfer Station

South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station

Ah yes . . . growing up in Goleta we have lots of fun memories of going to "The Dump" with Dad…read more Early memories of loading up the old Ford Station Wagon with yard clippings and useless furnishings, then filling the old Rambler Station Wagon with a month accumulation of yard clippings and bric a brac, and then loading up our old Datsun truck with "acceptable" plants and the last of the broken toys and bikes that we no longer could use. Good times. And for some reason those trips to "The Dump" with dad and brother were always so rewarding. Some might even say cleansing. And now as an adult the trips to "The Dump," or now we call it the South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station, it is a purely cathartic experience. These days loading up the Tacoma truck with all things unwanted and/or unneeded, I can still hear my Dad giving us directions as to how he wanted all our junk strategically placed in the truck bed. And once fully loaded he was always so meticulous with the laying and securing of "the tarp." He always would let us know how important "The Tarp" was for a successful visit to "The Dump." Staff is always very helpful in making sure we know exactly where to dump our loads. And whether it's electronics, green waste, treated or clean wood, and even "hard to handle" waste, they are very well organized and always offer clear paths to the different waste disposal areas. Thank you S.C.R.A.T.S.

While watching the outrageously bright colors of RuPaul's Drag Race, my secondary TV in the master…read morebedroom decided to take its last breath. Grr. Literally mid show it did a flash and then went black. Although the sound was still playing from the speaker, the screen's display was done. Ya it sucked, but what sucked more was trying to find how/where to dispose of a 60" Samsung TV. Thankfully after some Googling, I had found that county residents may "drop-off electronic equipment containing a cathode ray tube (CRT) (e.g. computer monitors, televisions, and laptop computers) free of charge." After further research I learned that as of January 2020 the state of California charges a "Electronic Waste Recycling Fee" when you purchase an electronic device of this type (any video display devices with a screen size, measured diagonally, greater than four inches, such as computer monitors, televisions, laptop computers, smart displays, tablets, and portable DVD players"). For future reference it is as follows: $4 More than four inches but less than 15 inches $5 At least 15 inches but less than 35 inches $6 35 inches or more The best part was once I lugged this massive TV in my car, I was able to drop it off free of charge for responsible recycling. That is once I could find the station. I also learned that you can pick up FREE mulch and recycle everything including clean textiles here. Check out my images for more details and pricing. I'm glad to see my taxes go to use. Directions: For locals, drive up County Drive past the jail on the left and it'll be up the hill.

MarBorg Industries - Styrofoam drop off bin

April is Earth Month--which began right here in Santa Barbara, California!…read more Compared to when I lived in Seattle, California is not nearly as green as I had anticipated. You would think that with "California Prop 65: chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm" being posted on every wall in the state and EV benefits it would take things more seriously. Thankfully though, all the way down on Dave Love Place on the right side of the street is a recycling center for MarBorg Industries. It is super convenient to swing by and recycle items that don't fit in your home's blue recycle bin or shouldn't be included. This includes styrofoam (which they make mirrors and frames out of), plastic bags from the store, electronic devices, and used mattresses. If you have an excessive amount of aluminum cans or plastic bottles, they will pay you money here based on weight. I just wish they cleaned up all of the lids that cover the parking lot... I am also excited to see that they now accept textiles for recycling including: clothing, backpacks, purses, matching pairs of shoes, fabric, cleaning rags and scrap cloths. Also remember that if you have used batteries, place them in a plastic zipping bag on top of your home's recycling bin. Recycling center is open Monday-Friday 8 am - 4 pm and occasional Saturdays. Let's keep our home and coast clean!

This place is so convenient. Nice people everything is so easy to use. Been going here for years.read more
