Adorbs!! I'm a "ceiling" fan of this cute tearoom! Cassandra's Cup had me weak! We came here after visiting Jane Austen's Chawton home and popped into this precious shop for some scones and tea afterwards. The lady behind the counter was a smidge abrupt. There's no sign to seat yourself, so when I said "party of two" she said curtly, "two what?" I said two for a table, and she said seat yourself. So we sat and took in the cool ambiance with teacups dangling from the ceiling, the shelves of tea pots and plates, and the fabulous lamps! After sitting for a few minutes, we noticed the sign on the table that said to order at the counter. Ohhhh, you could have mentioned that up front... it would have been courteous for her to say, "Hello! I can take you order now! Then you can have a seat in the dining room." Ahhhh Well, we were so enthralled with the pretty décor we overlooked the saucy server... we had pots of tea and luscious scones which was the perfect snack after a leisurely walk through Jane's house and garden! The scones were dense and delicious, served with jam and clotted cream. Our respite was lovely and our visit to the English countryside was complete! Jane would have loved it! They outdoor seating was so inviting as well! With a dollop of kindness and hospitali-tea this would be a 5 star experience! read more

This place would be the Museum Café for the Jane Austen house if it had one. It's nice enough with coffee, tea, sandwiches, pastries, etc. it's especially good if you have had pub food for over a week. read more

My partner and I enjoyed visiting Jane Austen's house and then were famished. This little restaurant was a wonderful remedy. As soon as we walked in, the staff was very friendly. There was a pretty waitress who was, I think, 8 months pregnant and still working. I just thought any woman THAT pregnant who can be so pleasant should win an award! I ordered my first cucumber sandwich. It was delicious, but it had more cream cheese than I had envisioned in my dreams. I took some of it out and then the sandwich was much better! I've forgotten what my partner ordered for two reasons. First, I was busy looking at the ceiling with its many, many teacups. Second, he was busy going on and on about the homemade desserts--they make them fresh everyday--he had already spied on the counter. For dessert, he had something chocolate and wasn't too interested in talking--just happily consuming his cake. Lovely building and in a pleasant location. Named after Jane Austin's sister, Cassandra. This place has a captive audience, though there is a pub nearly next door. There are no refreshaments available in Jane's house, (far cry from 200 years ago, I'll bet). There is a large car park which is shared with the pub. The place is very small ie two small downstair rooms converted for food/drinks. The upstairs offerds you B & B. Be prepared to dig deep as a Jacket Potato will set you back nearly £8.00, depending on what you have in it.still expensive. (Quite a few didn't linger once they saw the prices), neither did we!!! read more

Ok, bear with me as I'm playing catch up on a few reviews! :) I visited Cassandra's Cup on either Friday, August 31st or Saturday, September 1st while out touring part of the English countryside with my family. I'm sorry for not remembering exactly which day we went to Chawton, but we were there to see the last home of Jane Austen. In any case... after visiting the house and museum, we trotted across the way to this lovely tea room for a cuppa and (in my case) the most WONDERFULLY fresh and delicious scone I've ever had in my life. Period! It was hot and just fresh from the oven, I slathered it in clotted cream and raspberry jam, and made it vanish like magic!! It was pure heaven! Several of my companions had coffee... I think I had a latte... all I know for a fact is that I see this little tea room with its delicious dainties and excellent service in my dreams! I hope life will bring me back by here some day! I stopped by Cassandra's Cup after exploring the Jane Austen museum with a class I can traveling with. The woman running this business could not handle herself when it came my time to order. She kept interrupting my order and even stopped to yell at one of the other workers who was helping out by preparing everyone's drink orders. She then took the order stub to the kitchen before I was finished and stressed herself even more by having to go back and get it to add my last item. She handled herself extremely poorly and I overheard that she had yelled at the customer behind us because they were trying to order more food (at a food place!). Every other employee I interacted with was super nice even if they were a little stressed out by everyone in the shop. She shouldn't have been the one taking orders as she ruined the whole experience. read more

I visited Cassandra's Cup in early August with a group of 5 other ladies after touring the Jane Austen House museum (it's right across the street). Four of us had strawberry cream teas (on special that day and wonderful) and 2 had coffee with homemade cake (also very good). Though the small cafe was crowded, we were served right away, and the teas/cake came quite quickly. Prices were most reasonable. read more

We went in for a light lunch and were satisfied 100%. Very nice people and good portions for not too much money. Other guests also had a typical cream tea and this also looked fantastic. read more

I went to Cassandra's Cup on 25th May 2014 for lunch and I loved it! The place is really lovely and located right in front of Jane Austen's House. The food I ordered was very tasty and the staff really kind and friendly. The forniture was lovely, perfect for a tea lover like me! I enjoyed my lunch very much. The worst customer service for miles around. If you want a very old fashioned service and don't mind all dishes coming out one by one, making all dishes cold by the time all dishes have arrived. Then this is for you. Anyone else, go next door. read more

Just the place to go if you want to be ignored. Shown to a table in seconds, most politely, but that was the last we saw of the waitress for 20 minutes. If that was how long we had to wait to place an order [and we will never know because we left before she came back] heaven only knows how long the food would have taken to arrive.
