It was one of the most memorable nights in Istanbul, and in this city you can spend quite a lot of those. It was around 1:30 in the morning, and I had actually thought it was time to go home when the others decided we should go for some fried Manti at Casita in Nisantasi.
Locals will shake their head when I admit that I didn't know the place. But there is just no way you can know all the five zillion cool places in Istanbul. Anyway - even though it was really really late, we were very much welcome at Casita, located at the end of that posh little street in Nisantasi, Atiye Sokak. In any other town, an all night restaurant in the most prestigious part of town might be more expensive than good, but Casita was a nice surprise.
Okay, you can't really make a lot of mistakes when you offer Manti to a stranger. Especially when they are fresh, and even more so when they are sent to a really hot frying pan after they have left the pot. And it's not really rocket science to take some fresh garlic, chop it up, and stir it into a nice bowl of yoghurt.
I am sure it's a lot less easy than it seems. At Casita they know how to do it. Fried Manti until the belly bursts. And then some. Couldn't get enough of the stuff. A great night out. read more
