As I understood they are using currently only the renovated rooms. Switzerland is still in the 2nd lockdown so the Casino is not open and restaurants are for hotel guests only. We had 2 really modern and beautiful rooms on the 4th floor - all new and unused ;-). The interior of the hotel is very welcoming and the staff is so friendly. They have a self parking - cost 26 Swiss Francs but you can leave the car the whole day after departure- so you can explore the beautiful old city of Bern (walking distance). We even got for free, the Bern Tickets valid for two days to use the public transportation system of Bern. Don't know if this was just because of the lockdown ...other point the Mini-Bar (limited selection but still a nice gesture) was for free too. They have 2 restaurants the Yu (Japanese buffet) and the Gardino. To attract people they do all March 2021 the "Chef at Kursaal" event Friday and Saturday night - where each time Gourmet Chefs are presenting a nice dinner in the Gardino restaurant in combination with a hotel room for one night. Its a great and innovative idea during lockdown and the food, staff was great. An extraordinary dinner experience under the given circumstances. Because it's a one time thing I will not explain the food in more detail (let the pictures dpeak for themselves). Just something to the wine menu. It's the wine list from Gardino, which was a former gourmet restaurant (under a different name) they are using up some of the wine for really good prices. We got a 2014 Silex (Pouilly-Fume) from Didier Dagueneau !!! for 140 Swiss Francs and a Le Pergole Torte 2014 (yes I know, the 2016 would have been even better but it was already out) for 107 Swiss Francs - which is very close to retail prices- you even will have some issues finding those wines in the retail infir this price level. So great thing hope they still have a lot of bottles left in the cellar. Overall such a great experience and we were fortunate.

Cloth bags of warm bread came to the table early, with olive oil for dipping. I started with the fondue selection as an appetizer -- cheese with paprika, regular cheese and cheese with beer -- and made a good appetizer. Sam had an enjoyed venison steak, and I had wild pork roast with mashed potatoes and a nice salad. Nancy found the green salad with cranberries too sweet, but I liked it, and she was very happy with her mushroom risotto

Das unique Hotel Appenberg ist ein ehemaliger Bauernhof, der zu einem Seminarhotel umgebaut wurde…read more Einige der Häuser wurden auch in anderen Regionen abgebrochen und hierher verpflanzt. Die Zimmer sind neu renoviert und heimelig, wenn auch in der Nacht etwas warm und stickig. Die Seminarräumlichkeiten (z.B. In einem alten Schulhaus, wie cool ist das denn?) bieten alles notwendige und tragen mit ihrem Charme zum Erfolg bei. Der Küche gilt ganz spezielles Lob. Man achtet auf die lokale Herkunft der Zutaten, die Frische merkt man den Menüs an, ebenso die Liebe die ins Kochen gesteckt wird. Es gibt hier keine Fernseher, darum ist man am Abend mal gezwungen sich mit seinen Kollegen Seminarteilnehmern auseinanderzusetzen anstatt in die Glotze zu schauen! (Aber es gibt einen mässig schnellen gratis Internetzugang, immerhin)
