Desiree approached us and told us, in a rude and dismissive manner, that the child's meals were only for children 10 and under. We explained our situation and why we were trying to order a smaller meal for her, but Desiree simply reiterated the restaurant's policy and told us we would have to order a regular menu item. When we asked Desiree for her name, her response was again rude and dismissive. Rather than showing any understanding of the situation, she reiterated the policy and told us that she was writing a note for her manager about the interaction. Given the way the situation was handled, this felt less like an effort to address our concerns and more like an attempt to document the situation from her perspective before we had an opportunity to speak with management ourselves. We understand that restaurants have policies, and we were not asking for the policy to be changed. However, there are ways to communicate a policy with compassion and tact, especially when a customer explains that they are dealing with a serious health situation. We were simply trying to find an appropriate amount of food for someone going through cancer treatment. Desiree's approach felt rude, insulting, and completely lacking in compassion. The food itself was excellent, and the other staff members were helpful, but this interaction significantly impacted our experience. A little kindness, understanding, and professionalism would have made a big difference.
