I feel so fortunate that a bodyworker of Casey's caliber is right here in my city. As a former licensed massage therapist who was trained in, and then practiced in, the bodywork mecca of Boulder, CO, I have received a lot of different modalities of bodywork from extremely skillful practitioners. My bar of expectation for therapeutic bodywork is high. Casey is at the very top in his field, and you will do yourself a great favor by entrusting your body to his restorative care. Casey's gift is finessing tissue, somehow producing profound results while also creating deep relaxation. I went to see Casey because I felt "due" for a fascial reset, having received the standard 10-series of Rolfing treatments about 10 years ago and another 9 years before that. I know this stuff works! Despite being older and less active generally this time around, I regained more range of motion and saw more dramatic improvements in my posture (including gaining a half-inch in height) from Casey's work than I had from the other therapists. Even better, the chronic twinges and stiffness still hanging around in my injured knee despite years of physical therapy and targeted strengthening finally disappeared. I now feel as if I have the fluid spine, hip, and shoulder movements and general body comfort of my much younger self. Although I completed the 10-series with Casey as I intended, I keep coming back for additional sessions of targeted work. I suppose this is because I know that I could search a very long time before finding another practitioner so exquisitely skilled in both the science and art of working with another's body. I began seeing Casey since the beginning of 2022 after 2.5 years of chronic neck and shoulder pain due to being in a car accident. After seeing me in agonizing pain, my sister researched some pain relief ideas online. She stumbled upon rolfing and Googled to find out who in Portland did it. She found Casey and set up a session. It hadn't had a good night sleep in a long time. I had pain on my shoulder possibly due to avid golfing and maybe stress. The pain was constant and worse at night. It affected my sleep, mood, posture, and health. After 3 rolfing sessions with Mr Gates, I could finally sleep soundly. My posture has improved, and I am a lot happier. I still occasionally experience some stiffness and a dull ache but not as bad as before. He has introduced some core strengthening exercises that I am currently working on. As a Rolfing first-timer, I am beyond impressed with my body work sessions. Casey did an excellent job of thoroughly assessing my functional movement restrictions and associated pain. He was very effective in opening up my restricted tissue areas and guiding me into more awareness of the areas of my body that I wasn't using correctly. I am incredibly grateful to have learned about Rolfing via a recommendation of my Chiropractor and in an online forum I joined for Spinal Fusions. I am fused from T4-T11 from a scoliosis fusion surgery 30 years ago which has led me to almost 2 decades of intense daily pain in my lower back, thoracic and neck. I've been having back pain and problems over the last year. I found a chiropractor that gave me some short-term relief of pain, but was not getting better. I can't tell you enough how great Casey is! I am an athlete and within the last year I had sciatica. My back and legs were always in such pain that I couldn't do anything!! I used to run and do workouts almost everyday but after I got sciatica I couldn't do either of those things, it was too painful. I have worked with many, many healers, practitioners, doctors and coaches in trying to manage and address chronic pain. Casey is by *far* the most gifted and intuitive. I want everyone to work with him and to feel better! I have never been able to run because my lungs couldn't get any air and my hips and ribs experienced so much pain. I started working with Casey following a car accident in May that exacerbated old injuries and left me with a few new ones. Working with him has been instrumental to my recovery.
