We have just started a family membership at the Y. It's been great. The smaller pool for kids is very warm, like 95 degrees. It's shallow with the deepest part maybe being 5 and half feet. They allow toys which the kids love. Only knock on it, is that it can get crowded. The gym is a pretty large with a walking track as around it too. They have a little gym/activity area where kids can use some monkey bars and roll on activity mats. Their "basketball" gym is outdoors but is covered. It's a great for 3 seasons, but not built for winter. I have found it to be a great spot. 100 dollars a month for the entire family which I think is a great value. read more

I arrived here having recently moved from Portland, away from all other gym options. I used to be a member at Planet Fitness, inexpensive and everywhere. But, I found out that the Casco Bay YMCA was having an open house, where you could have a 2 week membership for free AND it was only a 5 minute drive from my new digs. Cool. Upon arrival I waited patiently while the desk associate talked another customer through a lengthy list of classes and how strenuous they are. She was apologetic and allowed us to enter the gym area to start our workout, then check in with her later. I thought this was great customer service, so, thank you. The workout area was clean and not crowded. I was able to use 2 different machines and the weight room without having to wait. There is also a nice, small, indoor track to use for walking or cooling down. On the way out, the person at the desk encouraged us to join, explained the benefits, and also told us a membership there included all other surrounding YMCAs (although I thought once you joined the Y you could go anywhere in the country, so that was a bit confusing). She was very friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy her job, a trait which I appreciate in the customer service industry. This Y has a pool, extensive workout area, outdoor basketball courts, and a lot of weekly classes. If you are in Freeport and want a nice place to do any of these activities, I wouldn't hesitate to go here. Also check online for swim hours and other activities that are happening that day. Someone told me that given that areas high concentration of relatively affluent nearby residents and retirees, this branch is used as a revenue generator to support the rest of the Portland area YMCAs. I have NO problem believing that. I've belonged to many YMCA branches in the past (and my local one at present), and can tell you that this one is sub-par at best. To say it's disappointing is a huge understatement. For the rates they charge, there is zero excuse for the condition of the equipment--most (really ALL) of which is woefully outdated. Staff is pleasant--but what good is that if you can't exercise? read more

MY daughter and I have been going to this YMCA for years and we love it. We appreciate how affordable it is for all that is offers. The facility is great and the choice of classes is terrific. The sense of community is also wonderful! I highly recommend this place! read more

The staff is the best part of this branch! Everyone is so kind and helpful. Sadly though there are some downfalls starting with the equipment. The parking lot was just expanded, which probably cost millions, but the Y can't afford (or refuses) to buy simple things like new benches for the weight room, which are covered in holes. In addition to that one of the reasons for only 3/5 stars is that the gym doesn't open until 9 on Sundays. How inconvenient for people who like to get their workout done early! read more

Love this Y. Zumba classes are amazing! Childcare is wonderful too. Parking is a pain but well worth it.

Of all the Y's I have represented and been a member/employee of, this is hands down, the best site. Always busy, community involved and utilized and a guaranteed well-attended class. As an instructor, this makes my job even more enjoyable! read more

This building is built on a landfill and is literally sinking into the ground. There's deep cracks in all the floors. The equipment is great and new. But the main area is full of dust. My family goes frequently and in all locker rooms there's chipped or even missing tiles. There's mold growing behind the soap dispensers and in the tile cracks. Basically the building is falling apart. Nice staff but obviously someone is skimming off the top. read more

I've been a member here for a little over a year. I probably don't make the most of my membership because there were several months this year that I never stepped foot in the door. I only have the individual membership since my husband doesn't like gyms, but at $50+/month it's a bit pricey for what I use. The problem is, it is the only show in town and it's about a 15 minute drive for me to get there so it's not the most convenient. There is a yoga studio in town but I like to have options which is why I joined the Y to begin with. I've only ever used the cardio and weight machines, but they do offer lots of classes and they have a pool. They also offer free daycare at certain hours so you can bring your kids while you work out (this is available with the family membership). read more

This place is great! They offer a wide range of hours for childcare. There are a lot of options for cardio equipment from upright bikes to treadmills and a couple of rowing machines, plus more. The weight room is pretty good as well. It'd be nice to have 2 or 3 more benches, but there's hardly ever a wait for using the equipment and there's plenty of space. I don't use the pool, but it looks nice. I drive 25 minutes each way to use this gym because for the price and the quality of the place and equipment, I can't find anything better. read more
