He has built three different types of decks on my current property and all of them are of top quality and built to last. The first deck Pete built for me was to replace a cedar deck attached to my home. He used Brazilian Hardwood, or IPE, because of its durability and low maintenance qualities. The picture is current of a deck that was built 14 years ago. The second deck he built was around my Koi pond and we chose Trex decking to go over existing structure. This deck is 13 years old and as attractive as the day it was built. The third deck he built was a few months ago. The deck it replaced was cedar and I wanted to replicate what was there because it lasted so well. Pete used pressure treated beams stringers. Any cuts in the wood was painted with a protective treatment that is necessary when such wood is cut and the raw wood is exposed. The cedar boards were stained on all sides prior to being laid into place. I expect this deck to last for thirty years. Pete is also excellent with fence replacement. My pressure treated wood deck was replaced with a metal fence over 14 years ago and still looks new. No problems with posts or material to date. Lastly, Pete built a retaining wall at the edge of my property. It was built to be maintained and corrected, should the ground shift and require adjustments. The crew at Legacy Decks and fence are very easy to deal with and Pete ensures that all work is up to his standards. I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the work. And the test of time has proven the durability to me.

There were a lot of e-mails and phone calls back and forth to clarify the customization. I appreciated this process and the willingness to get the customization correct. While I was told in writing that the only change to my second and final quote was the style of door, I failed to realize the sales rep removed the copper cap that I requested. When the revised quote was sent to me, the sales rep stated in the body of the e-mail that the only change made was the style of door, nothing else. I also had a conversation with the sales rep, that if memory serves correctly, that due to the thickness of the door I upgraded to, the copper cap was automatically included. I received the door and there was no copper cap. I reached out to the sales rep, but I was told that neither quote had the copper cap, I pointed out that this was incorrect because it was on the first. Then I asked if I could have the cap sent to me so it can be added, and I was told unfortunately not and there is nothing that can be done at this point, but have a happy holiday. I accept that I should have received in writing that the copper cap was included, or to point out the error of removing the copper cap on the revised quote, but I was most disappointed by this response and don't feel good about doing future business. Otherwise I had a great experience. The gate itself is high quality. Without the stain it was quite thirsty and needed lots of clear coat applications. My husband said the bolts provided were not high quality. I did receive the gate late, but my expectations have been managed during COVID on delivery timelines. FYI- They cannot clearcoat the wood, so I opted to stain it myself to maintain a natural wood color. They cannot bore specialized dimensions for door locks, so I decided to do that on my own as well.

It has now been 12 weeks since we ordered gates and accessories ($4,260) and copper caps ($400) from Pacific Gate Works. Gates and accessories were delivered damaged in torn boxes two weeks ago. Copper caps were never delivered. The salesperson simply instructed me to contact the owner, who did not respond to phone calls or texts. In order to support small local business, I might even have provided three stars if the damage was repaired and copper caps delivered by now. At this point, I must report publicly that the company defrauded us. They never delivered $400 worth of goods we paid for. They falsely advertised that $4,260 of goods as undamaged. The public should be informed about the expensive and punishing lesson we learned about the company.

The craftsmanship was corrected, the cleanup concerns were taken seriously, and I appreciated their willingness to own the missteps and follow through quickly. Not every project goes perfectly, but how a company responds makes all the difference--and in this case, they really stepped up. The price was very reasonable for the originally planned work, but in the end it turned out to be a great value for everything they did to get it perfect for us. Jesus is extremely nice and approachable, and he was excellent with communication and check-ins. As soon as they finished the backyard landscaping job today, I signed another contract for them to do our fencing, and we're planning on having them back to improve our sprinkler system next Spring.

However, replacing the deck would mean having to update it to current building codes and permits, which would then mean having to hire an engineer for our small 6' x 14' deck... Bruce came over, took a look and casually said, we can add more supports and fix the deck instead of having to replace it. He walked us through all the repairs he would do, he listened to our concerns and wrote up an estimate that weekend. I choose to hire him because of his straightforwardness in answering all my questions, he was so down to earth and friendly, I felt like he was trustworthy. We went from potentially having to wait months and spend $20,000 on a new replacement deck to spending about $5,000 on repairs and taking considerably less time. They were booked out till about October and would contact us when the time came closer, they did just that and were able to fix the deck in a day. We hired him to come back to build a 2nd retaining wall, his son came out and built it in less than an hour. They used high quality materials, I feel like the wood used will last a long time. A year later, we noticed that the deck was starting to sink and consulted with Bruce. He came over, took a look and figured it was probably the ground material was soft and causing the deck to sink. He offered to fix it, FREE OF CHARGE. It wasn't his fault the ground was soft, it just shows how much integrity he has in his work. Hands down, I would recommend him to anyone. My neighbor immediately asked for his contact!
