As I walked across the bridge, you could see small children and their families playing and splashing in the river. It was a hot day and I had to restrain myself from jumping in too! A short walk through this park will do a body good and maybe even your spirit! Great little park!

Thankfully it connected to the trail and we were back in business We enjoyed the beautiful, cool weather as we made our way through a mossy, lush forest. The water fountain at the start/end of path wasn't working which was a bummer but we had more water in the car. Pack accordingly.

We were looking for a place to go hiking where we could see good fall colors. We found a guide that…read moresaid this would be the perfect elevation for the weekend we wanted to go. There isn't much parking, maybe 5-10 spots, but tons of cars park along the road. The last few miles to get there is a bumpy gravel road. I had read that it was a 1.5 mile round trip hike, but it ended up being around 2.3 miles. It was a pretty short hike to the summit, but it was a decent climb. It's not marked all that well. At the first split, take a left. There is a sign that points you back to the parking lot which you can use in reverse to figure out which way the summit must be. There's another split close to the top. We were told that both ways will take you to the summit with the left being shorter and steeper. The views at the summit are breathtaking. You can get a view from the left side, but the actual summit is to the right. You can get 360 degree views that are stunning. It was incredibly windy at the summit. The hike up wasn't because of the trees blocking it, but it felt like you might get blown off the summit. We were a little disappointed because the views were still almost completely green, but leaves changing is probably happening a lot later than normal this year because of the warm weather. You can also drive a couple of miles down the road and hike to the Table Rock summit. We decided to call it a day after Hawksbill, but might come back another time. If you're looking for a short hike with awesome views, I would highly recommend this one!

Let me start by saying I have been to other caverns in a couple of other states. But we live here…read moreand wanted to visit this nice little attraction. If you know what time you are going to be there, get tickets online. We went on a Sunday and had to wait an hour and a half due to there being small groups and lots of visitors. The cavern is not big but still holds interest and if you are young or young at heart you likely will enjoy it. The guide takes you through the cavern and points out rock formations and other points of interest. TIP your guide if they are someone who gives you some points that were interesting. It amazes me how we tip a Starbucks barista who spends two minutes on us but not a guide who gives a tour for a half hour. I recommend a visit.

The…read moreBlue Ridge Parkway is a 470-mile-long roadway that meanders through the mountains and connects the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The parkway boasts about 170 official stops along the path. This site is one of these many stops. It is located at milepost 431 and may seem like a simple pull-off but as far as I am concerned it gives one of the most iconic views of the entire parkway. It is primarily a west-facing view with a 180-degree view. The best views, with possible clouds between many of the mountains, will probably show up in the morning or afternoon. The parking area fits about 20 cars and has a simple information sign that states the name (Cowee Mountain overlook) and elevation (5950 feet). The parking area looks out onto what is essentially an open field so the view is not obstructed by trees. It gives a view of numerous mountains behind each other receding off into the distance. If you want to get a good picture of the parkway mountains then this is probably one of your best chances to get it. Enjoy.

We have been staying at Mtn River for about 3 years now and it's become 'home away from home'…read more You have your choice of river or mountainside sites. We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing. The campground owners are fantastic people who've become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there's also a dog park area. The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C. They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more! Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play. Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground. The camp store has expanded and features a great mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They're in the process of building a new office/camp store so we're excited to see this complete. We have a 40' fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds. Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We've been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)! Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There's also a local dollar store about 5min away. We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We've met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!
