Word to the wise: Take a picture with you cell of your glasses the moment you hand them over, in the hands of the person that cleans them, or you'll lose out hard. Cascade Eye Center destroyed my Ray Ban frames and blamed me. I've been a loyal customer at Cascade Eye Center for over a decade. I ordered my last pair of glasses with insurance in August 2020. Due to COVID-19 delays in shipping, it took about 6 weeks for them to arrive. I finally got them, and was handed warranty paperwork at that time. The glasses ended up making me nauseous due to a new coating on the lenses I was trying. I took them back on the 3rd day of having them and asked them to reorder new lenses with my normal anti-glare coat. I asked if they wanted the glasses to fit the new lenses because I can't wear them. No, they didn't want them. Weeks went by I called. "Be patient, COVID is making things slow." I called for months. "Be patient, it's COVID," they'd say. I gave up after several months of calling and came in person to check. Only then was told they'd just never placed the order for my lenses in the first place. The optical manager informed me that I should have called them more. I should have been checking in more frequently, and it was my fault-- I was now out of the warranty period for replacement. But, *graciously* she said, she would void my warranty and reorder the lenses. So, they screwed up and graciously took my warranty away. I gave up and said fine. I asked again if they wanted my frames to fit the lenses. They didn't. After several weeks, the lenses came in, and they didn't fit the frames at all. Finally, they asked for the frames I'd repeatedly offered, and got my new glasses to me yesterday. Not only did it take them until mid-April of 2021 to get them right, but they were handed to me brand new, voided warranty and all, because remember: The customer is supposed to parent the optical department to do their job beyond regularly checking in. Now, when I arrived, I was so excited to be done, I asked them to clean my classics. I love this pair of Ray Bans I bought from Cascade Eye 3 years ago, I take remarkable care of them. I mentioned this to the woman who was to clean them, telling her, "They are my favorite, please be careful." She came back with them and had completely removed the shine/finish from the frames. they looked like someone doused them in nail polish. "What happened to my glasses?!" I asked alarmed. "What do you mean?" she replied. I said, "You took off the finish of my glasses, entirely." She rushed back and I could hear her talking to someone else. "Oh my god, what do I do? I cleaned them and it came off, all of it." to which the person in the back replied, "Just tell her that happens sometimes." I watched the woman try again to wipe the frames. She then came out and gave me a bottle of glasses cleaner and told me, "Maybe something got on there while I was cleaning them? Here, you can try to fix them with this." I said, "The finish is gone. Cleaning them won't change that. I have a client shortly, and I have to go, but I really don't think cleaning is going to work." I took my glasses home. I called Cascade Eye Center today and spoke with The Dalles office manager. She essentially let me know that I was lying, that my glasses were three years old, and that they had no way of knowing I didn't just bring in totally destroyed glasses in the first place. After hearing my frustration, she quipped, "Well, I think they do a great job in Optical." Like, really? Y'all destroyed my glasses and called me a liar, then you've got snark at the top of the chain? I asked for a call back from the administrator. She said, "You're not my first tantrum," and I should pay for the frame replacement with their gracious 20% discount. So, more money to them for screwing up? This is by far the worst local customer service I have ever had, and I've been in the Gorge 20+ years. I used to go Cacade Eye Center for a couple of years and then stopped going once I got LASIK. I should have kept going, I know. But it's hard when you now have perfect eyesight. But this past summer I started having some eye issues after 8 years post-LASIK and so I went to make an appointment. I checked to make sure they accepted my new Blue Cross/Blue Shield vision plan and according to the website, they did. I waited a couple of weeks for my appointment and when I showed up and start filling out my paperwork they suddenly inform me they don't accept my insurance! What a waist of time! So disappointed. They lost my business forever. read more

OK,as I'm getting older my eyes need more attention, and that's what I get at Cascade Eye Center, attention and plenty of it They are always on time (even if I'm not), courteous and professional. Unfortunately, not impressed. First, whenever I called the office (several times), the woman who answered was always in a tizzy. She seemed extremely stressed and acted as if she was in the middle of a crisis. Anyways, I went to my appointment to have my annual eye exam for contact lenses. The doctor was ok, not the most thorough ever, but not bad, and nice enough. I bought a year supply of very expensive contact lenses. This particular brand offers a rebate that will save you several hundred dollars on a year's supply. There was a promotional flyer in the office for this offer. I have participated in this rebate for years, and I asked for the paperwork needed to submit the rebate. I was told by multiple people that I didn't need the paperwork I requested, that my receipt would be sufficient. Well, this wasn't correct, as I told them, and I didn't end up getting the rebate. Anyways, after this experience, my husband went to their office as well just for the sake of convenience. We we both have eye insurance through our employers, and were both covered by two plans. They ended up charging him significantly more for his exam and contact lens purchase, even though we had the same exam and brand/amount of contacts that we bought. When we questioned why that was they brushed it off, and told us they would "get back to us". Well, multiple phone calls and months later, still haven't heard anything. I really didn't want to invest any more time or energy into the situation, so I'll just take the financial hit. Moral of the story is that they earned themselves a bad yelp review, and I'll just be driving into Portland for my eye care in the future. read more

These guys are the worst! I tried to go to any other doctor in Hood River besides them, my boyfriend had had a TON of issues with their billing department, but they were the only office who would take my insurance. The doctor I saw was fine enough, but they would NOT write me a new contact prescription without me giving them my old prescription... So, I'm not entirely sure they even fitted me for contacts. When I spoke to a technician on the phone about this, she was not sure a fitting had been done either and had agreed that I should not have to pay $50 for a piece of paper. When I went to pick up my scrip no one asked me to pay anything and I thought it had all been taken care of. 3 months later I get a bill for $50 in the mail. When I called the office, no one had any record of my interaction with the technician and I am absolutely expected to pay this $50. I have new insurance and will be going ANYWHERE but here for my exam next year. Save yourself the headache and go to Portland if you have to. read more

My girlfriend recently went here to get new eye glasses and everything was pretty standard, until she went to pick out some frames to buy. She was looking for frames from $50 to around $100. They showed her some $50 frames and then some $200 frames, but when she asked for some between $50 and $100 they looked at her like she was speaking Swahili, mumbled a bit and then walked off leaving her to browse through hundreds of frames on her own with no help . Poor poor customer service we will be trying out the other place in town or driving to Portland next time. read more

Consistent with most healthcare establishments in the gorge, cascade disappoints from the moment you walk in the door. Admin staff have a chip on their shoulder, nurses are kind but useless, and the doctor's prime directive appears to be spending as little time with patients as possible. Yes, yes, you're trying to avoid driving to Portland for real healthcare like we were, but in the end, you'll end up making the drive anyways, with a strong taste of dissatisfaction in your mouth. Great customer service, professional setting, and Dr. Barbour and staff are very passionate about what they do and anxious to make sure everything is just right. Worst place ever. Every time I have had to go to this place they get everything consistently wrong. Either they don't even order the prescription or they send it to the wrong location or they have the entire prescription incorrect. Not all staff but some are completely rude and act as though you are a bother. After numerous times of this I finally switched to an eye doctor across the river in White Salmon 10 times better!!! Unfortunately my husband still has to go to Cascade eye center due to his insurance and guess what... 1 month later he called to check on the status of his contacts... We don't have an order for... Wait? Who are you? Let me call you back... Same old same old. If you can go somewhere anywhere other than this place do. read more
