Due to some renovations going on at home I had to find a doggie daycare situation for my mini Aussi puppy and my 12-year-old Husky mix. I'd used vet facilities before, but disliked putting my healthy dogs next to sick dogs when not absolutely necessary. Through Rover.com I found Casa McKibben, which happens to be only five minutes from my home. Mark suggested I come by with both my dogs for a meet-and-greet, which I did. The mini Aussie, who is fearless and fiercely friendly, dove right in from the first moment. The Husky girl, though, is very shy, but under Mark's expert tutelage she was soon feeling as much at home as little Charley. The pups came home tired and happy each afternoon after four days at Casa McKibben. I can't imagine a more welcoming environment or a more protective situation for your pups for a day, a night, a week or more. We've already booked a full weekend for our pups next month. Mark is totally Pawsome! :-) We feel good about taking DD to her daycare visits at Casa McKibben. The meet and greet went great, and we were able to spend an hour to get to know Mark and the setup he has. We felt comfortable that he is knowledgeable about the care of canines. We have taken our girl DD to a few daycare visits getting ready for a week's stay while we go on vacation. I know Mark will keep in touch with us while away and not be bothered with check ins. Jake was a poor little terrorized Shar Pei who my husband and I rescued from the Salt Lake City Animal Shelter at the end of September 2017. He was likely a puppy mill stud, as he was not neutered, chipped, tagged or collared, found wandering the streets of Salt Lake City by the dog catcher. This poor little guy had so little human contact or socialization, he would growl and snap and was so hard to control on the lead. I mean, when we got him home, he didn't even know what a house was and seemed quite baffled by it all. But as far as adopting, we knew he was a high breed Shar Pei who, with the right aggression training and love, would be a wonderful dog. So, we adopted him knowing a trainer would be immediately required when we got him back to the San Fernando Valley area where we lived. We didn't know Mark and actually found his site when I was looking for someone who handled aggressive dogs. We spoke over the telephone and I was a little hesitant because I knew Mark cared for some other dogs and I didn't want Jake to hurt those dogs. He was and could be very, very aggressive and mean. For example, the day Mark took him for training had been a very challenging as he ran out the doggie door before I could get it shut and almost bit our gardner person. Thank god he had on gloves and has been our gardner for a long, long time, through several different Shar Pei's we've had as pets. But none as aggressive as Jake, that was for sure. But anyway, Mark talked us into bringing Jake to see him that very evening. Well of course, Jake acted meaner than a junk yard dog, growling, snapping, twirling on the lead and just acting like he had no control, which he didn't. His aggressive actions were always towards other people. Towards us and in the car coming home from Salt Lake City, Jake was calm and really wonderful. But walking him was challenging, to say the least. This Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personality disorder was quite concerning and Mark told us, if we didn't get him under control and trained, we would have big problems with him, which we understood. So Mark explained his program to us and we were able to see his home and his kennelling of the dogs. He assured us that Jake would be consistently supervised and explained that Jake would be kept from the other dogs, slowly being socialized into the pack. I asked what would happen if he bit another dog or was bitten by another dog. Mark explained that he only accepts bookings through Rover, simply because Rover provides premium insurance coverage for the animals in case of a mishap. He explained that there is a small deductible of $250 that a pet owner agrees to pay, with the rest covered by Rover for any covered claims. He also explained that coverage is for any injuries to the dogs while in his care and it wasn't limited to dog bites. For example, while Jake was in Mark's care, he developed a fever of no origin and didn't eat his dinner. Mark called us right away. He thought Jake may have suffered a bee sting in his mouth, which was tender. He wanted permission to take Jake to the Access Emergency Care but being close by, we took him. Mark offered to file a claim but it was unnecessary. Jake had a bee sting to his mouth. An easy fix! After assuring us that Jake would get the training & attention needed, we signed Jake up for Mark's "doggie boot camp" for 10 days. We received daily videos and updates of the training. After a few days, I was allowed to come over and visit. Jake was significantly calmer and would walk at heel on the lead with Mark, right next to his knee. I followed and watched the techniques. Mark was fantastic with Jake and has been fantastic with me too, training me how to use proper techniques in walking and further training him. We signed up for another 10 days and now I can't wait to take Jake back to Mark for more training for us both, when he moves to his new facility. I'm sure his new place will be just as great as his original place which provided such a comfy "home environment" for the dogs in his doggie day care. I'm further confident it will provide the dogs with their fresh filtered water (Jake loved it) along with plenty of toys and ropes for tug of war, balls and romps in the pool, running and playing. I have to say that I so enjoyed sitting outside on Casa McKibben's patio, watching the dogs, Mark's interactions with them and the care and service provided by the wonderful people who work with him. They are true animal advocates with a perfectly balanced atmosphere of love and discipline! I'm really grateful for Mark, his wife Carol, Ziyah, and the other persons who obviously love being there, caring and watching over these dogs. It's special! So Casa McKibben will always be Jake's home away from home and we are looking so forward to it's reopening in their new location. We will be there for sure, with bells on! read more

I found Casa McKibben on DogVacay and just loved what people were saying about how he cared for their dogs. I went to one of Mark's free Puppy Play dates first and enjoyed talking with Mark about the rescue and volunteering work he does. Mark's dogs are also awesome, and very welcoming to new guests. My 2 dogs stayed with Mark for 7 days and during this time I received constant emails with pictures and updates of how they were doing. We are new to the area and were extremely nervous having to find a new place for our boys! I had used the same place back in Indy for 10 years, so this was a challenge using someone new. One of my boys came from a rescue, he is nervous of new people and I can always tell by how he is when I pick him up if things went well. There was no need for my worry :). The boys did great!!! So grateful, we dropped off an unruly wildebeest and got back a sweet dog, thanks to Mark! She obviously had fun in the process. I received daily updates and videos, which was comforting. My two dogs, 5 and 9 years old, German Shepherd and lab, have been staying with Mark since May of 2019. I was overseas due to the military and was apprehensive of finding the perfect care for my dogs. Not only is Mark affordable, but the bond he shares with the animals is out of this world. It is a beautiful sight. He kept me updated on everything the entire time. He also sent me pictures and videos. I never once wondered if my dogs were doing okay. Mark is the best. In just 5 days of puppy daycare, I can say that Casa McKibben is our puppy's home away from home. Mark provides the perfect balance of discipline and freedom and his love for dogs is evident. Boxers can be a smart yet stubborn breed. With our work hours, we were looking for puppy daycare that would be an extension of our home training and provide a comfortable environment for our separation-anxiety puppy. Zola comes home happy and calm after her stay with Mark's incredible environment of his own role model dogs, backyard (with pool!) to run/play, and indoor comforts of home. In just 5 days of puppy daycare, Zola has become significantly calmer around guests, other dogs, during walks, less barking, and well-mannered overall. This is not an easy task for a boxer puppy! This shows how much patience Mark has with dogs and his rapport is immediately apparent by how Zola interacts with him. It is notable for Mark to accept 6 month old puppies and provide such positive reinforcement - many times he has gone overtime to demonstrate training techniques. His long hours (7am-8pm all days) show how much he cares, and he is always professional and responsive. Highly recommend - look no further! read more

I would not give 1 star but I have to in order to leave a comment. Mark boarded my dog back in 2015 I trusted this man and yes I WAS FOOLED! My dog was severely injured under his care by another dog he was watching at the time and yes I understand things can happen but the difference in regards to this situation is Mark was not home and left multiple dogs under the supervision of others who I firmly believe were not watching the dogs! To top that when I was notified my dog had been injured I arrived with a friend and my dog was on the side of the house scared, shaking, bloody and STAPLED UP. Mr. Mark Mckibben took it upon himself to staple my dogs back which obviously had been severely injured with a chunk bitten out of her back but I till this day do not know if it was done humanely or not. It looked as if he stapled gunned my dogs back. I asked my friend to take pictures and as soon as she pulled out her phone he snatched the phone and pushed my 59 year old disabled friend up against the wall. And immediately asked her to leave or he'd call the cops for trespassing. Needless to say my friend called the LAPD to report him for assault. Mark refused to help with any vet bills nor give me the information of the owner of the other dog involved which only had one wound and my dog had over 30. And this doesn't end here, I reported him to Animal Services because he is running an illegal boarding and his not licensed to run any type of boarding or day care facility. And will never be able to because his residence that he uses for his business is by the city not zoned for animals to have more then 3 dogs on his property. He was cited twice in 2015 by Los Angeles Animal Services and required to attend a court date. I had to raise money for my vet bills and unfortunately 2 months almost to the day my Mila passed due to complications from her injuries sustained at Casa Mckibbens's! Its been 2 years now and here he is still trying to run a boarding for profit gain and not for the love of animals. I know of a couple other cases since where an animal was injured under his care but luckily didn't die. My dog is the only dog that I know of that has died due to his negligence and that is why I am posting this review to keep it that way so no one else has to suffer what I have thees past 2 years. read more

If my doggy had died and gone to Heaven it would look exactly like Casa McKibben. I have been boarding Rusty at Casa McKibben (for up to 11 days) for over a year now. Every stay has been fantastic. Whenever I start packing up Rusty's food for his vacation, he gets so excited! Each time he comes home, he is happily exhausted. Mark & his family (both human & canine) are great hosts who truly love dogs and know how to provide the best care for them. Rusty also loves being invited to the doggy play dates that are free of charge. Mark is truly knowledgeable about dogs and has given me tips on how to care for my dog. The best part about boarding at Casa McKibben is knowing that Rusty is having the time of his life instead of being locked up in a kennel/jail, so I can have my guilt-free vacations too! read more

We had boarded our dog in kennels and he always came home sick so I knew I had to find another solution and through Dog Vacay found Mark. Awesome place to board my dog. Great environment and a good social opportunity especially if you have only one dog. Mark has weekly play dates, doggie swim lessons, as well as boarding and day care. My dog is treated like one of the family and always comes home exhausted but NEVER sick. Mark sends texts and lots of photos of your dog interacting. He also does training. My husband and I are extremely protective of our boy, Sequoia. As a rescue dog, Sequoia generally requires more attention and care due to his strong separation anxiety issues and we were hoping to find the right fit for our situation. The moment we met Mark we felt immediately at ease, secure, and confident that Sequoia would be well cared for and would make some life-long furry friends along the way. Mark and the entire McKibben's family are absolutely amazing and their home is filled with so much love and warmth! Sequoia had so much fun during his overnight stay and Mark even sent us pictures during the day of how Sequoia was getting along with his new buddies. It was so reassuring to see his goofy smile and although this was his first sleepover, it won't be his last! Mark has worked wonders with our Pitbull and we couldn't be happier with how much he's learning every moment he gets to spend time with Mark and the McKibben's gang. Sequoia has become a regular there and has even made some girlfriends during his weekly daycare stays!
