This cooking class was absolutely dreamy. The day starts off at a local market in Roma, moves onto a cooking portion at Casa Jacaranda and ends with a lovely lunch of all the prepared dishes. All throughout you're learning about Mexican history, the culture and of course, the food. Plus, the dishes you help create are crazy delicious and satisfying. Alberto was also such a welcoming, generous and fun host/instructor. The whole day felt like you are cooking with a friend. Definitely an unforgettable experience, and I cannot wait to be back for another session. Would highly recommend!

Incredible! 10/10 would recommend. I came to CDMX on a solo trip and this experience has changed my life in a very positive way. We learned so much about the Mexican culture and cuisine in one day! We had an amazing crew from all around the world and enjoyed a day of cooking, history, storytelling and laughter. Sharing our meal at the end of the day was a very rewarding and special moment for us all. Book with casa jacaranda!!

I was visiting CDMX with my mom and thought a cooking class would be a great activity for us. It was AMAZING! I let him know in advance that I was vegan and another girl was vegetarian; Alberto had us alter the recipes so we could eat what everyone else was eating which I was so appreciative for. I didn't feel like I was missing out in the slightest. We met Alberto outside of the market where he took us from stall to stall explaining the various products used in traditional Mexican food and gave us samples of various items. As we walked back to start cooking, we stopped at a traditional tortilla stand to watch the process and sample the goods like locals do. That alone could have been an experience in itself that I would have paid for. We then went back to his home, the gorgeous Casa Jacaranda, where it was professionally set up for us to cook tamales, adobo, salsa, traditional rice, and more. As we cooked, Alberto explained the chemistry and the history behind the dishes. His love for cooking and passion for food is obvious, and it was really interesting to learn how traditionally things are done and how food is a fundamental staple in family dynamics. We were a class of eight and we each took turns chopping, grinding, frying, etc. It was a fully immersive experience and then we all gathered upstairs to eat the meal, complete with beers and mezcal shots (which Alberto explained the process of making). By then, we'd all spent so much time together that the conversation was relaxed and fun. The food we had prepared was delicious. Again, that experience alone is something in itself I would have been entirely happy to pay for. We left with full stomachs, a lot of laughs had, and recipes to take home and recreate. And they are actually recipes I feel confident I can recreate - nothing too onerous. To say that I highly recommend this experience would be to sell it short. I can only say that whenever I'm back in CDMX from now on, I'll be visiting Alberto and Casa Jacaranda again!

Here we are preparing one of the dishes during the class.

This is a blast. It's a great way to learn about Mexican culture, food, and history, while walking through a local market and then cooking the dishes with the instructor and his assistants. I only wish I'd brought another piece of luggage to bring back more items from the market we visited. We've already made some of the dishes at home from the class and will be cooking more of them. The day included a trip to market, cooking lessons, a multi-course meal, dessert, and a tasting of tequila, mezcal, and sotol. It was fantastic.

Well, I had totally different expectations of the actual experience and my perception of what it really was. I was told to meet Alberto and Jorge on the corner of Campeche and Medellín by the Medellín market, I thought, that is odd for a cooking class, but as told I went and meet them, right on time they where expecting the group for the "experience of the day". 2 American girls from NY, a couple from Mexico and Russia and myself. When they begin to explain to me that we where going to go to a tortilleria that makes tortillas the old and proper way and then we will be shopping by the market everything we needed for the cooking class, then I understood why they call it an experience instead of just a cooking class. The term "Farm to table" just doesn't describe fully what these 2 guys had plan for us. It all begin at the tortilleria, we got inside the back and got to see the whole process of how a corn kernel becomes a Tortilla by the old ways of nixtamalization. The smell, the machines and the people that work there combined with the explanation of Jorge and Alberto were amazing. After buying some Masa to make tamales we left to the market to start shopping the rest of the ingredients. First we stop by "El yucateco" the guy from Yucatan he specializes in everything related to typical Yucatan culinary treasures from ingredients of the area to already prepared salsas and dishes, the stars were all kinds of forms of habanero and axiote. We move on to the fresh fruits and vegetables, I realized there were some beautiful Zapote negro that I haven't seen for a while and I told Jorge and Alberto that we should get some and try with our friends from NY. They agreed and they even change the desert that was planned for a delicious zapote desert. After shopping and trying lots of kinds of fruits , vegetables, chile's, moles, dairy products and meats we head to the beautiful Casa Jacaranda to start the cooking class. Let me tell you that I'm Mexican, I been living a few blocks away from Medellín market for a few years and go often shopping there, after going with Jorge and Alberto, it changed the whole way of how I appreciate the market and the way I do my shopping. By the time I got to the house and realized how beautiful the set and setting was, we were already feeling like a group of old friends just hanging out at casa jacarandas kitchen.. I wouldn't like to spoil the rest of the experience to you so the rest you will have to live for yourself, what I can tell you is that it was the best culinary experience I had of Mexican cuisine (remember I'm mexican) Jorge and Alberto shared some amazing recipes from their families and in a great way show us how to make them, from shopping to chopping to cooking and finally to taste them. All these complemented by great music, amazing tequila and mezcal with an easy going vibe. Don't miss the opportunity to have the Jacaranda experience.

Incredible day and well worth the cost. We found out about this from a friend. I had seen her beautiful pictures on Instagram and called her before our trip. She couldn't say enough about it. So, I booked it for my wife and I. We met at the mercado and Beto gave us a wonderful tour including many samples and a great history of the place. We then had a lazy walk to the actual class. Along the way, we stopped at a very traditional tortilla factory and had a great time learning their techniques and joking with the owner. Casa Jacaranda is a beautiful setting and the kitchen was great for teaching. There were around eight in our group and everyone had a great time and had plenty of opportunity to participate, prep and cook. When everything was ready we had a great late lunch with margaritas on the stunning roof. I will recommend this place to anyone I know visiting CDMX.

This tour and class exceeded any and all of our expectations. Jorge and Beto were so warm and knowledgable about their culture, their city, and food. The market tour exposed us to flavors and stories that we wouldn't have discovered on our own. The cooking class part of the day was very thorough and approachable. I've already made most of the recipes they shared multiple times! Jorge and Beto, as hosts, were welcoming, encouraging, and passionate. It was a pleasure to take this class and meet them. I highly recommend doing the full market tour and cooking class for the ultimate and authentic Mexico City experience!

There is a terrace where we were welcomed in, given some coffee or agua de fresca and was then given the rundown of what to expect in the hours ahead. My favorite part of this experience is when were were taken to the market. I absolutely love going to markets and I loved seeing the variety of foods, spices and artisanal goods. While we were there we were able to enjoy a quick snack (quesadillas) before heading back to get busy with cooking our meals. Our group was essentially broken up into teams to work on each dish from scratch. The instructors had great energy and every, no matter their level of skill had an opportunity to contribute. We then were able to enjoy the feast together in the beautiful dining area. One of the highlights was making a white mole - something I never knew existed. It was so delicious and I appreciated learning about the history. Even my Mexican friends that were cooking with us had never heard of white mole, so the entire group had a first time experience being exposed to it which is is an experience I'm truly grateful for. Overall, it's very clear this is a well run, top notch business and feel confident that if you book you will have an amazing experience!

Our guide Netzi was knowledgeable, patient, and led us to confidently prepare the dishes and salsas. The class can probably accommodate super novice cooks (they can do the simpler activities) but I think to get the most out of this experience it'll be best if you're semi-confident with a chef's knife. I'm excited to replicate these tacos and salsas at home, thanks Netzi!

After spending three hours with Alexandra I feel I could conquer a delicious Mexican meal at home…read more I learned so much during this time about Mexican heritage culture and of course food. I love the fact that we made a full three course meal in under three hours including a delicious dessert. In order to do that, the instructors really had to know what they were doing. Prepping the ingredients and knowing exactly how to cook each one in order to make the sauces and the flavors perfect. I would recommend this experience to anyone who would like to know more about Mexican cooking from a professional. The kitchen is a professional one and has plenty of room for large or small groups. My wife and I sat at the counter and talked with Alexandra and Coca as they prepare the meal. We made tortilla soup with it at least seven different accompaniments. That was followed by Cochanita Pibil which was so flavorful and spicy along with a topping of marinated onions served on a sopé. Finally a delicious Mexican chocolate lava cake that was sweet and had all the flavors of cinnamon and other ingredients you find a typical Mexican chocolate. We even toasted the success of this meal and our time together with a shot of mezcal. I wish them the best of luck and can recommend this to anyone who would like to spend a few hours with some lovely people learning how to cook a delicious Mexican meal.
