I have no idea how people find these places. My friends live in the area and they didnt know about…read moreit. They are remodeling a house and it turns out the guy doing their tile also did the tile work at the restaurant. So of course he recommended it. So we got to see his handy work and try a new place too. Now you can see the freeway from the restaurant. But you cannot tell that it is a restaurant on the freeway. There are very sparse amounts of old houses with many of them shelled or states of decay. It's on the edge of the Albufera near Pinedo, where all the famous rice of Valencia grows. You go into a fairly sparse street a few kilometers off the freeway and you pass the shelled houses. In between two other houses is a giant one that to our surprise is a very nice house. A very large one at that too. The lot is dirt and most indication of the lushness of the interior is also hidden by groves of trees. We walk in and the place is packed. It's a Monday for lunch. We get seated on the enclosed patio area looking over the groves and experiencing the bustle. The inside is also crowded but not to the hilt the patio is. It's a total hacienda in this place and the number of suits indicates it's a power meal stop for the local businessmen. It's also got a split on people where very casual dress so I guess you can basically turn this into any occasion place you want. In looking in the menu they have it printed in the native Valencian and Castiallian Spanish. Of course my Spanish is at a 2nd or 3rd grade level so I let my friends do the talking. -Esgarraet/Pimiento asado con bacalao - Salt code, roasted peppers in olive oil -Tellines/Tellinas - Tiny miniscule clams (pinkie sized) sauteed. - Sepietas amb als tendres/Chipirons frito con ajos tiernos - Tiny squid with their tendrils battered and fried -Caragols/Caracoles guisados aromatizados con hierbabuena - Stewed sea snails with a mint sauce -Arros a banda - A Valencian specialty, where the rice is cooked with a rich fish stock in a thin layer with fish, prawns, langoustine and potatoes presented on the side -Valencian orange tiramisu Holy fuck this place is good. I could not stop eating and we barely scratched the menu for three of us. The seafood is amazingly fresh and because we are in the Valencian part where the sea meets the Albufera water preserve, there a lot of things here you won't likely find elsewhere. Sitting outside, gorging on great local food and wine, taking 3+ hours to do it. Our server was very friendly and recommended the dessert as unique to anywhere else and it was spot on. We had some coffees and witnessed a brief rain storm pass through the Albufera as we finished up. An amazing place in an off beat locale. Totally worth seeking out though. Good thing I have friends with excellent local food knowledge.
