This is the oldest café/pastry show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Many people believe Confeitaria Colombo is the oldest but no, it's Casa Cavé. Located near Carioca train station, at Rua Sete de Setembro, this place is a blast from the past. It's very Portuguese, decorated with traditional azulejos, and they offer authentic Portuguese pastries such as the delicious egg custard, pastel de Belém/Nata. My mother and I had one of those, and I can tell it was the best pastel de nata we've ever had (sorry all the other places). It was a little crispy, soft and warm, the filling was flavorful and not super sweet, I don't know why I only had one. It's one of the must visit places in Rio. Just make sure you go to the front entrance because the side entrance will take you to the cafe/restaurant and if you just want a coffee and a pastry with lovely decoration, the front entrance is the place. read more
