My guy and I stopped in Mamoiada to see the mask museum and learn more about Sardinian culture... as it was just around lunch time, everything in the city had closed and we started roaming, looking for food. By chance, we saw Sa Rosada, and decided to walk in and see if they were serving.
The owner and host were so welcoming - even with the language barrier. They spoke hardly any english, we spoke hardly any italian - and some how, we agreed to sit for lunch, only to find that they serve in a way that you don't choose what you're getting, you just get what they are serving - and it. was. awesome.
Primi was the best fresh ravioli I've ever had in my life, and secondi was roast pork - which my dude raved about. I go in and out of eating meat, and so when I asked the server if he had anything vegetarian - he seemed kind of surprised, not in an offended way, but in a sweet, "you dont eat meat?" "it's ok, I'll serve you lamb" sort of My Big Fat Greek Wedding sort of adorable way. Anyway, he starting talking out ideas on what they had in the kitchen to be alternatives for my secondi, outside of pork, when suddenly, he got this great smile on his face and seemed really pleased with what he was going to do for my alternative. When the roast pork arrived for my guy, a second plate arrived for me - that was this amazing, cheese filled puffed up disc pastry, covered in honey. AWESOME. It was so good, and so thoughtful that he came up with such a delicious alternative!
Lunch of course came with wine and the flatbread of the region.
Damn, this place was magical. From the stone and vine filled courtyard, to the unbelievable hospitality of Augustino, our amazing server.... it was the best. We havent been able to stop talking about it, since!
