My mother saw Dr. Lester Carter featured on local news, and she asked me to take her to his store because he was helping people resolve their health problems with natural remedies, so she wanted to meet him, get some advice, and buy his book. This was a concept I supported so I took her there and listened in to make sure she was getting information she expected to get. She did.
First, this is one of the few remaining Hayat Pharmacy locations in Milwaukee, and it is definitely one of the last pharmacies with a "neighborhood small business" feel to it. It's very small, but there is a surprising amount of inventory, from odds and ends needed in the home to natural remedies, and of course the prescription counter in back. It was charming, and reminded me of the types of business I visited as a youngster in my own neighborhood, like the smoke shop that sold penny candies - LOL! I think there were more kids than smokers in that store at any given time.
Dr. Carter seemed to be a very knowledgeable, kind, and caring man. It was clear to me that he was in this for the right reasons, and I certainly respect that. He took the time to answer all of my mother's questions and obliged when she asked for a photo with him and his autograph on his book that she purchased.
I don't think I'm telling you anything new when I say there is a lack of health care professionals and businesses that truly care about doing what's best for their clients. These days it seems to be about going through the motions and racking up the volume of clients to keep "corporate" happy.
Neighborhood businesses like this are a treasure, so support them while you can. read more
