Back in my day we used to stop at what we called truck stops in Kentucky. We loved to eat where the truck drivers stopped to eat because it was a lot of food for a good price. You won't find that at this welcome center. You will find a rest area and clean bathroom most of the time. No matter where I enter Kentucky I always feel welcome. I lived in Eastern Kentucky off and on for Ten years. You gotta know where to go! I'm highly recommending you stop and be welcomed if you're traveling this way. This is like a park and welcome center all in one. It's beautiful. Thanks J.David....

No longer open to vehicular traffic, this covered bridge spans Fox Creek in a single 90 foot span…read more The Wikipedia article on the bridge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringos_Mill_Covered_Bridge disputes whether or not it is a "Burr truss" and I take no position on that. The sign on the bridge indicates that it was built circa 1869 (after the end of the Civil War) and is an "81 foot Multiple Kinpost Truss". And that's good enough for me. The bridge is in fantastic condition (recently restored?) and there was absolutely no graffiti, perhaps because it is situated rather fat from most traffic and people. It is 7 miles from here to I-64 at the Kentucky Route 801 exit. If you're interested in covered bridges, this is worth a stop to admire. There is at least one park bench to sit. There is a second bridge downstream and 5 miles by road. That bridge has some structural issues as of July 2020 and is my next review. https://www.yelp.com/biz/grange-city-covered-bridge-grange-city [Review 13479 overall, 798 of 2020.]

The bridge is open to pedestrians and easily walkable though just a little creepy. There's some history to be felt here. Near where the Dry Fork River crosses Kentucky Route 1, this marker points out some local history…read more The road is wide enough that you can stop to read the marker. The front reads, "In 1873, line was extended from Grayson to Willard. Located here were a turntable, water tower, railroad scales, & engine house. Near-by, the Lick Branch & Lost Creek spurs, as well as EK coal mines and coal camp existed. In 1892, an angry mob stole the EK train and, south of here, lynched Austin Porter. And the reverse, "On Oct. 31, 1905, 6 men attempted to rob the safe at the bank of Willard but were thwarted by locals. The robbers escaped using an EK engine. They fled afoot up Johns Run & were later captured. In the 1920s, for $7.20 a month, children took the Blue Goose to school from Willard each day. Presented by EK Railway Society & Collis P. Huntington RRHS for their 50th anniversary." This is marker number 2301 and it was erected in 2009 by the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Department of Highways.
