Buyer beware: "I'M THE DOCTOR. I HAVE THE POWER."…read more We're from the U.S. visiting Montreal. My car's driver side window was smashed in a parking lot. It's Friday afternoon and there are no repair shops open on Saturday. We had to return for work on Monday. I thought I was lucky when I called Optimal Vitres D'Autos who promised me that they had the replacement window in stock and would charge me $450 cash. Also, he said the downtown address on Yelp wasn't correct and they are in Laval: (texted address below). We arrive the next morning at 9 AM. But to our chagrin, no one was there to meet us, even though the person on the other end of the phone insisted we not be late. When "Gino" finally arrives, he demands the keys to the car saying " Don't waste my time, I am the doctor and you wait for the doctor. I have the power." When I reminded him he was late, not me, he aggressively yelled again that he was the doctor, and as I was his patient, I wait for him. My husband said,"Dude, relax, let's just move forward." He yelled, "I'm not dude! I'm Gino!!!!" Finally, he took the keys and headed back to the shop. 20 minutes later he came back to tell us that he had the wrong window. He insisted that my husband go to the shop area with him so he could prove that he had the wrong window. He had already taken the door apart before checking if he had the correct part. "Gino" tried to persuade my husband to pay him $100 for the window which was from a different model car. He would then duct tape a piece of cardboard into the 12 inches that the window did not cover. He also stated that the window did not exist in all of Canada. (For a Honda Civic, really?) Clearly, this man has no grasp on reality. We left, went to Canadian Tire, and bought a clear shower curtain and tape and returned to the U.S.

So I called the latter for an appointment which they gave me for the next day at 8.30am. Arriving there on time, my thought process is how much time I will spend there and above all, is this going to cost me a fortune. At the reception, the lady was super nice and very professional. She was expecting me, and had all the details of my vehicle and the verification that needs to be done, and asked me to pull my car in. A few minutes later, the mechanic lifted the car up and less than 5 minutes later he had already diagnosed the problem and recommended that he will just remove part of the exhaust and solder another piece, rather than replacing the whole exhaust. He completed the job on the time estimated and at 9.31 am, I was paying the bill and left. It was nowhere I thought it would cost me, and totally amazed by the level of expertise and professionalism of the entire team. They are the muffler experts! Totally professional and above all, very trustworthy. They certainly deserve more than 5 stars This is how all car garages should be!

The car's exhaust was rattling quite a bit and since the car has 186k kms, I figured it may be time for the manifold. As I brought the car to the shop, the mechanic put it on a lift to inspect the problem. Since I thought it was the manifold, I said to him bluntly,"the manifold needs to be changed, right?" He answers me "Si (yes)" so i followed up with a "hold much will it cost me to change the manifold" and he replies "$320". Since I already looked up the cost for a cost for a manifold on rcokauto at aproximately $200 (https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5790351&cc=1430775&pt=5860&jsn=11027&_nck=HllVxRCey1%2B2aVRDo41oQdTbcl3rxAmQeMcBm39t5kVc2IqyAbq5OQkLNJT7SMtKe00x9Cd4p8g24FoEZsMbUC4CC%2FabxPG8D31l59Jyfw13GKbC8eQQmwMdDv1lEJSF682IKdgCofnfK0d36EGR7%2BNvIhqQptdGaFtydKnPIzT8luPjAM6mRArtzGbm2zD2IIkV5hsMkOROoKgCFOlh753CA931JzN9ljYNhwyjZ2ihJ7tbFyFJYjjf13M9uEHBAaROZqQoK3Hr3hicmXuxbpMSY5SeHQEncXjZwVyZdWQ%3D), I figured 1 hour of labour plus the part should cost me about that price so I agreed to the work. Low and behold, as I watched them fix my car, all they did was repair the flex tube which goes to the manifold. After the repair was done, which only took a HALF hour, I asked the mechanic why he did not replace the manifold to which he now replied that the manifold was good. NOW HERE IS THE KICKER....he still wanted to charge me $320. The mechanic then accompanies me to the office where he tells the girl behind the desk that he never said there was an issue with the manifold, another guy that appeared to be more of a mechanic (or a manager) comes to tell me that to replace a manifold is over $500. Then I respond to him, "what is your hourly rate?", the mechanic took 30 minutes and the pipe cant be more that $50. He replies that they work by "job", not by hour and accuses me of not wanting to pay for services that he rendered. He goes further to say that they are human beings and a family business and continues to insinuate that I'm at fault and that I don't want to pay. I explain to the gentlemen that he is not dealing with an idiot. If the mechanic had said he would have simply repaired a flex pipe for $320, I would have never agreed to such ridicules price. I explained that even at $150 hourly rate, plus the cost of the flex pipe, my bill should not be greater than $200. I guess he knew that he could not hold my car for payment because he said "do you want to leave without paying?" and I responded that I was not there to cheat him but did not want to be cheated either. I upped my price to $250 and he charged me $250 plus taxes (my offer included the taxes) but I paid any way. BE WARNED....these people try to come across as honest, BUT THEY ARE ANYTHINHG BUT !!!!!!!
