Beware of this place and Luis the owner. In short lousey mechanic, dishonest, and a grumpy old man. I kept my boat there over the winter, they winterized it and shrink wrapped it. I paid them $45 per month for storage, which was fine. In May they got it ready for spring and changed the oil. I paid $330 for this. I towed the boat home to Incline and checked the oil, it was dirty. I called Luis he said to bring it in and they would change it again. He claims they changed it the first time and could not get all the old oil out that is why it was dirty? Not my fault, if I pay $72 for an old change it would be nice to have clean oil. So far no big deal. I take the boat out on the first trip of the season and within in 30 seconds of accelerating the boat sputters and dies. Carson Tahoe Marine forgot to secure the hose clamp on the main engine hose so it popped off. They disconected all the hoses and drain the block to winterize. Water sprayed all over the serpentine belt and soaked the engine and fuel pump. The engine died and would not start. I towed it back to Carson Tahoe Marine and Luis said they would look at it. The next he called and said I need a new fuel pump for $1500. I asked him if you was going to pay for that since it was his mechanic that caused the problem. He said NO come pick up your boat and hung up on me. I towed the boat to another boat mechanic in Carson and they dried out the electical connections on the fuel pump and the boat runs fine. All for $110. I called Luis to explain the situation to see if he would honor is crappy work and pay me back the $110, he won't answer the phone. This place is pathetic.......DO NOT GO THERE!! Had my boat winterized in fall of 2017 at there Hwy 50 shop. They found water intrusion in the oil and advised I likely had a cracked block. Told them to do an thorough oil/filter change and run again to see if problem was still present (as we had a few rough storms at the lake that could have caused the problem). They called back and advised the intrusion was still present after the oil filter/change and reiterated the cracked block claim. I took the boat to another mechanic for a second opinion. He changed the oil/filter and ran the boat. Oil was fine- zero intrusion- and noted that the oil filter had not been changed previously. Cliff Notes: -Rude owner that doesn't really seem to want business -Poor Diagnosticians -Part chuckers -They need a "crystal ball" (their words) for diagnosis -I feel like money was literally stolen from me for nothing My first encounter with the owner of this place was a couple years ago. I needed my carb adjusted as I had recently gone from boating at sea level to boating at 6200' and was fouling plugs. When I went into his shop in Mound House I explained what I was looking to have done and he seemed less than interested in taking on any work. Maybe they were just too busy, but that's just my guess. The owner was short and a little rude with me but it didn't matter because I wasn't having any work done. Fast forward 3 years and I have a P/S leak I would like diagnosed and fixed. Against my better judgement I take it back to this shop. It's really the only game in town and I don't feel like towing to Sparks or Tahoe for something so small. The night before I drop it off, I purchase a brand new battery and throw it in. The morning of, I hook it up to muffs and start it up so I know they'll have no issues. I disconnect the battery and drive it over. I come into the shop on a Thursday and the owner is still pretty cold and disinterested. Maybe he's just not a people person. Whatever. I fill out a work order and he says they'll probably get to it the following Wednesday. Wednesday comes and goes. No call. Following Wednesday comes and goes. No call. Friday (15 days later) he finally calls and says it won't start and wants me to OK a new starter. I tell him I started it the day I dropped it off, it should be fine. In 10 years, I have never had an issue with the boat starting. He says he replaced a terminal on the starter wire because mine fell off (no idea how this happened) and the starter is just clicking. This all seems fishy. I say no to a new starter and I'll just pick it up. I go to pick it up and he puts a work order in front of me for $72. Why? Because the "fiddled with it for an hour" and then diagnosed a bad starter. He claims this is a smokin' deal because their shop rate is $120. Boat is held hostage at this point so I just pay and leave. Go home, test the brand new battery and it is dead. I hook up the second battery that I had on my tender and boat starts right up. The starter is fine, of course. I call him (I'm not really sure why at this point, it's not like I'm getting my money back) and let him know the starter is fine but it was a dead battery. I ask him if they hooked up the battery then left the boat or did something that would cause a brand new battery to discharge. He said "well it sat for a couple weeks". Well maybe so, but it was disconnected when I dropped it off. A brand new battery should not discharge just sitting for 2 weeks. Then I ask him why I just paid $73 for a bad diagnosis. He says "Well we don't have a crystal ball." A crystal ball? Really? This is a shop, supposedly filled with mechanics, and they can't diagnose a dead battery? What if I OK'd them installing a new starter? Am I on the hook for a new starter that the boat didn't need? Are these guys just hoping I don't know anything and are running up a bigger ticket than necessary? At this point I don't know if they are dishonest or stupid. Good service; honest; reliable! Luis has been servicing my Cobalt for more than 15 years, first at his old location and now at his new one. Every summer, he gets it ready for the Lake Tahoe boating season, and every fall he winterizes it so I can safely store it in my (unheated) Carson City hangar. He has always done an excellent job, treated us fairly, charged a reasonable price and kept our boat running all season without any problems. I recommend this business without reservation! read more

Carson Tahoe Marine moved its business location just over five years ago to Mound House NV., at HWY 50 & HWY 341, ( Known as the Virginia City HWY ). When it was located in Carson City, the service was then, just satisfactory, prior to the recent economic situations that began in 2007. This is a business that advertises itself as being a boat and boat motor repair and service maintenance facility, open to all of the regional and visiting, boating public, no matter where your boat and its motor were aquired. The rating of the boat service on our motor is misleading as that motor was aquired new from the factory and not from this business. Being a new motor and this business being a factory approved service facility, at that time, for the manufacturer of our motor, it would not require anything further than its manufacturer warranty requirements for service and motor break-in proceedures to maintain reliable performance from such new boat motors to function normally. Since this time, this business was discontinued as a factory approved, service facility for the manufacturer of our (less than ten hours of in the water running time) boat motor. The fact is that this proprietor will dress you down verbaly if he thinks your boat is too small for Lake Tahoe, meaning that kyaks and cannoes by implication, should not be allowed on Lake Tahoe. This proprietor will tell you that he doesn't appreciate your business as much as he would if you had purchased your boat motor from him, which would better qualify you for his treatment of you with respect and access to a higher priority of service and maintenace on your boat at his business. If you are a female or anyone who isn't a long time personal friend of his, from the golf course, he openly goes out of his way to express his impatience with whatever boating care you seek. This proprietor might or might not be a competent boat service facility but it's clear this business is run as his private hobby that serves his personal needs and interests above whatever needs or interests his so-called customers might have. While there, relatives of this proprietor were witnessed taking bedroom sleeping linen and furniture to an upstairs attic which is apparently being used as a residential bedroom at this so- called business facility. If you are a relative or close friend of this proprietor, with an automobile, tractor, ATV, or RV in need of service, he will gladly repair it for you, even though he advertises as being a strictly marine service facility. I would not recommend this business for marine repair or maintenance unless you happen to be a favored family relative or friend of the proprietor. read more

I bought a boat on an E-Bay auction. I really didn't know much about the mechanical condition of the boat other than what the seller said was need for a tune-up and probably a carburetor. I bought a replacement carb and took everything to Carson-Tahoe Marine for installation. Louis (at the counter) was helpful and understanding. He estimated 1.5 hours shop time at $110/Hr. Ed (the mechanic) found that my new carburetor was defective; The accelerator pump was faulty. He also found that the only problem with my old carburetor was the electric choke had stuck and it was making the engine run very rough. He was able to take the choke off the new carburetor and put it on my old unit. They tuned the carb for my high elevation and got it running perfectly. They also gave me some good information on the pitch of prop I needed as well as some tips on winterizing my boat. The overall job ended up being one hour more than originally forecast, but that was only because I brought them a defective carburetor. I will definitely be taking my boat back to them next spring for some additional repairs. read more
