Loon Lake? More like ANT Lake!…read more Went to this campground with my husband last weekend. I would highlight how pretty the place is, but unfortunately the campground design had many flaws. First, the elevation was pretty high, so right away, we were noticeably winded even after the shortest walk. They should really consider lowering the campground. Then, we went to sit on the lakeshore, and what did we see?? Not a single loon, but THOUSANDS of ants. Less than 5 minutes after I laid my towel down, it was covered in ants. Turns out there were several ant hills....ON THE BEACH. This is an unacceptable flaw in design. I would suggest the camp hosts or Forest Service relocate the ant hills, so that people can actually enjoy the shore. Just as we were settling down later in the evening and trying to sleep, I heard someone making a God awful owl hooting noise, from high up in the trees. It was very obnoxious. And I know it wasn't an actual owl because birds aren't real. All in all, it's a pretty place but I'd recommend visiting a campground that values comfort and caters to your needs. September 19 through September 21, 2023. Came up for a…read morecouple day fishing trip with good friend. Campsites are both reserve and first come first serve. We showed up as first come first serve and we're lucky to get a beautiful spot right on the lake. They have nice deep fire rings, picnic tables and bear lockers. We didn't see any sign of bears. The sites are $27 a night and you can buy wood for six dollars a bundle or two bundles for $10. There is a 14 day limit on first come first serve sites. This time around, the road to Upper Blue Lake was open, so we headed up there to check it out. There are a couple campgrounds up there that have nice sites and include bathroom facilities. We ran into a couple of backpackers who convinced us to take the "short" hike to Granite Lake to do some fishing. We grabbed our fishing poles and gear and headed out thinking that short would be a quarter mile or so. The hike actually turned out to be 2 1/2 miles with about a 700 foot elevation gain. If we had known the distance, we probably would not have done the hike, but once there, we got a couple of very nice rainbow trout. We did not have any cell phone coverage in our camp, but at the 9100 foot elevation of Granite Lake we did have some pretty good cell coverage.

The husband‑and‑wife team working that evening completely turned our experience around. They mentioned they had moved to Tahoe from LA and had a few daughters, and both were incredibly kind and welcoming. The gentleman went above and beyond, bringing out new reels, adjusting our setup, and personally coaching my wife with patience. Thanks to his effort, she caught her very first fish, and it absolutely made her day! We left with huge smiles and a wonderful memory. Tahoe Trout Farm has amazing people who truly care about their guests. Highly recommend!

Five stars for Capt. Andrew and The Professor!…read more I've lived in Reno since 2008 and never knew anyone who really fished Lake Tahoe. As my kids have come to enjoy fishing, I've found myself looking for new experiences we can share, so when we found ourselves in the area for Spring Break, my wife and I booked this trip for all of us. I'd been following Andrew on social media for about a year, so he was my first call. From his consistent presence online and catches, I could tell that he knew the lake, ran a tight ship, and knew how to get on the fish, so we booked individual seats (nearly had a private boat) and met him at Round Hill Pines for a 7:30am departure. Andrew had the whole boat ready to roll with a well full of live bait, rods rigged for a variety of approaches, and a game plan on where we'd be going and what we'd be doing. Upon my request, he gave us a deep dive on what we were doing, how the fish would react, what to look for, how to fight them and anything else you might want to know about the lake and fishery. We trolled live baits and caught big lake trout. It was fun to tend the rods under his command and even more fun watching the kids faces light up as these large freshwater fish took the baits and eventually came over the rails. Andrew was awesome at making sure everyone had a great time and got on the fish. The kids really loved his high energy and fed into helping him "run the boat". The icing on the cake was eating the fish themselves. I had heard these lake trout weren't good eating but that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, this is THE reason to get on this boat IMHO. I'm stoked to have a few more meals left in the freezer and looking forward to another trip for more. BEST OF ALL... if the fish aren't biting you're still getting a cruise on Lake Tahoe, which can run about the same on one of the larger yachts!

There were some hiccups but all were resolved: first they do not validate parking and it's $12 a day or on the marina side $25. Please be advised if you're planning to rent here go up behind the ice cream shop for the free parking and walk in. It's a 4 min walk. Initially had difficulties getting my hubs liability waiver fixed. Then they refused to validate our parking. Just trying to get more $ from the flat landers. On a positive note we were out on the lake it was breathtaking and calm. Had fun and met some great ppl at the marina. Just part of being a tourist in Tahoe.

We even caught a few rainbow trout which we returned to the river as they were natives. We had so much fun and plan to start fly fishing as a hobbie now! And the Coffee shop is amazing too. We were trying to find the perfect spot to take our 7yr old fishing. Since we were staying on the north shore, it was a 1hr drive to get here. We drove here on a whim and it worked out. FREE parking. Low key. Mellow. Not crazy busy. Secluded feeling. Plenty of shade. Pets on leash welcome. Nice outhouses. We saw a bear at the pond just 40 yards in front of us. August 2026. He was minding his own business. Everyone was very friendly and shared their worms with us. We didn't catch anything but that's okay. We had fun. We spent 3.5hrs there all for free. Better than blowing money at an arcade.

I discovered this pond last summer and am so glad I did. My kids (5, and 8) have taken some sincere interest in fishing and Sawmill was the perfect place to teach them some basics. There's a large parking lot and easy access to the shoreline of the pond with some quality shade opportunities to fish from. During the weekday afternoon we were there, the traffic was light and we had a lot of choices on where to fit. Sadly the time of day probably didn't help us get bites, but we had some chances to catch and a lot of quality time together. I imagine if you hit this on the right day near a stocking, the bite could get hot and really hook a kid on fishing. This is a great community resource that is largely frequented by locals. It presents a good opportunity to get your kids out fishing and I highly recommend you get it on your radar for a future visit.

And I live close so I try and come here at least three or four times to camp a year. Some of these motor boats are unbelievably loud!
